Can't decide. Looks like a bra but passes for a crop top as it is en vogue.

www.news.com.au/travel/travel-advice/flights/woman-in-crop-top-threatened-to-be-kicked-off-thomas-cook-flight/news-story/6145a7ed3e17ae51ef885618513ee965

Thomas Cook have since apologized to the girl saying they could have handled things better.
Woukd you be offended?

Also does anyone else think it's interesting that if the outfit was SO shocking (!!!!) that this happened, the media are perfectly happy to share pictures of her supposedly inappropriate outfit absolutely bloody everywhere. I do think the fact she's a very pretty and articulate, confident young woman has kept the press machine running longer than it would
Have done otherwise.

This has been 'news' for days now. Our country's press blows my mind (and in my role I work with them a lot but after years I have a reputation for straight talking chats with journos and seem to get away with sharing this kind of opinion as and when required!)

Again think of the past week's big stories. NZ massacre, the shit show that is Brexit, a mother killing her own child because she felt so desperately worried about the life she faced.

And they choose to allocate so. much. press to this story!

Little off topic but TBH makes a chance from being told a royal is "thrifty" for "recycling" a four grand dress by wearing it on two separate occasions. I mix items I love from a wide ranges of price points and my pound per wear is shit hot!

I understand Kate isn't going to nip to topshop on a lunch break, but it'd be such a PR coup for the Royal Family to ask their stylists to mix in some British brand high street items in their wardrobes to seem more accessible to normal people. They may well do so already but it's being less publicised and if so, good on them!

peachescariad · 15/03/2019 14:25

It's a bralette and totally acceptable to wear as she did, and she looks gorgeous in it.
As for the dried out old 1950's stepford wife next to her on the sofa...WTAF??
I'm glad Thomas Cook realised what twats they and their crew looked and apologised.

Lweji · 15/03/2019 14:26

I've watched the video in the OP now.

It does look more like a bra than just a top. Not a revealing or sexy bra, but still a bra.

And did Holly dress like a nun for contrast or could it be a coincidence? Wink

Sashkin · 15/03/2019 14:29

Have a think, why are certain clothes suitable for the workplace and others aren't? If you had a younger workforce force who came into work in casual revealing clothes (male and female) do you think they would act and be perceived as less professional than if they came in appropriate smart clothes? Of course they would

Depends on the industry. Corporate law or medicine, fair enough. Plenty of other workplaces are more relaxed. DH used to work downstairs from the ASOS head office, and he used to regale me with awestruck descriptions of what the girls of ASOS were wearing this season (not necessarily skimpy, just very fashionista). Men in his current office wear basketball vests and shorts in summer (which show a fuck of a lot more skin than this girl’s bralette). And again, a plane is not an office.

I really don’t like the insinuation that airlines are saving slutty young girls from themselves by making them cover up, and nor do I like the implication that “people abroad” will treat them poorly (if you mean rape them, just say that) if they are under-dressed. If that isn’t misogyny I’m not sure what is.

Yabbers · 15/03/2019 14:38

Her attire is considered too little. Burka is considered too much. I'm thinking we need a list of exactly what is acceptable. 🤔

If this was an airline policy then why was it ok to wear on the way home?

I don't know who the other woman in the video was but she's awful. Pawing at her like that and saying it was setting back everything she had fought for. Presumably she is talking about fighting for the right for women to have choices and not be bullied because of something so trivial as what they were wearing.

AdamNichol · 15/03/2019 14:41

My God, what an over-reaction, AdamNichol. How on earth woud you react if something serious actually happened? You'd probably implode.

Not an over-reaction. A public chastisement over what you're wearing by official staff who threaten to remove you from a plane and ruin part of your trip (and who also do nothing to either help nor curtail the interventions of other members of the public) is not really a small matter. Good on her for being able to brush it off so lightly. The issue itself may be relatively trivial, but actually the standard of treatment she received was anything but. Had the debate been about a cultural dress item - or something more sensitive - this story would have a whole different slant. Interesting that the airline has only apologised for the manner in which staff dealt with the issue, not for the ridiculous policy in the first place.

I think a near top less man would be asked to cover too!
I have a basketball jersey, which gapes, etc to show essentially everything (though not all at once). I can wear this in any number of locations without comment.

origamiunicorn · 15/03/2019 14:46

I don't know and TBPH I don't care. What has peeved me off though is group of 'men' ganging up on a 21 year old. Yet there was also a bloke in a vest top shorts funnily enough though nothing was said to him. That's big 'ard blokes for you, though.

Oh so much this!

Don't care what you call the item, she wasn't indecent, I've seen men wear less, it's double standards and I can't believe, as women, that we aren't more enraged about this.

starbrightnight · 15/03/2019 14:51

Wish I could wear a top like that (32K so would probably be arrested only slightly misses point of thread)

Aridane · 15/03/2019 14:54

Perhaps as a starter don’t wear underwear as outerwear?

excitedtobehere · 15/03/2019 14:54

She's just attention seeking and immature. The sooner people stop giving her publicity, the sooner she'll disappear into oblivion again and we can all move on.

Birdsgottafly · 15/03/2019 14:56

"As for the dried out old 1950's stepford wife next to her on the sofa"

Another bit of Woman hating. Unless you die before Menopause, every Woman is going to become 'dried out', even with the advances of HRT.

TheMuminator2 · 15/03/2019 15:03

The fact she chose to wear it AGAIN on national telly shows her motives lol Apparently she hasnt made a penny

Birdsgottafly · 15/03/2019 15:07

"Perhaps as a starter don’t wear underwear as outerwear?"

That ship has sailed. What she was wearing is a standard outfit, especially in Tenerife.

AryaStarkWolf · 15/03/2019 15:11

The fact she chose to wear it AGAIN on national telly shows her motives

Presumably they asked her to wear it again as the whole interview was about that outfit and whether or not it was acceptable?

TruffleShuffles · 15/03/2019 15:19

For all the people who said she should have followed the dress code and covered up be able to point me in the direction of Thomas Cooks policy as I don’t seem to be able to find one.

ooItsAoBeautifulDayNow · 15/03/2019 15:21

Motives?! LOLZ come off it. Even if she has made money out of it, so what? She absolutely didn't go out to cause the situation or she would have worn something far more outrageous!

I really don't think people realise how much money people get offered for interviews and pics by the press.

If I was her age, felt confident to discuss what a ridiculous situation I felt it was especially after receiving an official spooky then fuck me, id have taken £5k/£10k+ to do so in the original outfit.

Her only motive is making the most of a situation out of her control. Good on her!

anniehm · 15/03/2019 15:29

It's a bralette, and is underwear, ok with a jacket over the top or on the beach. I would refuse to take my DD's out if they came downstairs in just that as a top (unless it was clubbing)

Beautifullycalm · 15/03/2019 15:33

I think she looks lovely and it wouldn’t bother me at all. I’m 58 by the way - judged by previous poster as in the pear clutcher age group. Why do some posters have to be so ageist?

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 15/03/2019 16:04

It isnt underwear its a bralet

Its sold as outerwear in loads of fashion shops

Some bralets have more material than others...like all tops

Ive also seen then described as a vest top and crop top

Lweji · 15/03/2019 16:07

There's no right answer. Where do you draw the line at what is acceptable to wear where?

I'm fine in a bikini top at the beach, might wear one in a local beach supermarket, but wouldn't go on a plane or to work with it. Why?

BitchQueen90 · 15/03/2019 16:21

@Megan2018 if you're so horrified at the idea of "bare skin" next to you would you also complain about someone wearing a short sleeved t-shirt? Are only long sleeves acceptable? Or is it because she's showing a bit of shock horror cleavage?

Megan2018 · 15/03/2019 16:25

@BitchQueen90
Oh do sod off

BeanTownNancy · 15/03/2019 17:11

I don't actually care how much or little clothing other people are wearing, except to say that I don't think the attire is appropriate for a flight, in that it would offer very little protection on the case of emergency disembarkation via an emergency slide if such action was necessary - she would have nasty friction burns all down her back. She would also likely be quite uncomfortable if they dropped the temperature - for those reasons I think the cabin crew (who are ultimately responsible for the comfort and safety of their passengers) would have not been inappropriate to advise her to wear a more substantial top.
Telling her that her outfit might offend other passengers on the other hand is pathetic.
Her claiming this was the "worst thing that had ever happened to her" and then choosing to wear the same outfit on her return flight dramatically reduced any sympathy I might have felt for her. But I don't necessarily disagree with her point.

sushisuperstar · 15/03/2019 17:29

Can't see the big deal. It's rude noisy people and seat kickers who drive me mad, wouldnt bat an eyelid about what someone was wearing. Has no impact on me whatsoever.

Totaldogsbody · 15/03/2019 18:40

The top was revealing but not inappropriate, she was going on holiday. What was inappropriate was that the airline staff let her be abused by a fellow passenger and did nothing about that. If a member of staff had been abused like that the culprit would have been removed from the flight. Definite double standards.
