Can't decide. Looks like a bra but passes for a crop top as it is en vogue.

www.news.com.au/travel/travel-advice/flights/woman-in-crop-top-threatened-to-be-kicked-off-thomas-cook-flight/news-story/6145a7ed3e17ae51ef885618513ee965

Thomas Cook have since apologized to the girl saying they could have handled things better.
Woukd you be offended?

If she delayed my flight I would be pissed off even if it is a bralette. Just layer ffs - its Birmingham in February early in the morning.

MoBiroBo · 15/03/2019 13:50

@AdamNichol you need to get your story right, she was told to cover up by the greeting staff when she stepped onto the plane, she said I am happy to do that (she clearly wasn't) and asked them to show her where it stipulates this in their policy. Then continued to her seat and didn't cover up.

It doesn't matter what she wore when she checked in, went through security etc because she had a jacket with her and we only have her word that she wasn't wearing it in the airport.

The reason the woman on the sofa on TM tried to turn her around was so you could see how little material there was in the back of the top.

It does raise an interesting debate though, is this an okay outfit because of the destination? Or is this a your child's secondary school teacher could of course wear it being an NQT at 22, or in an office? I wonder if she could wear that to work?

And you'll find LOTS of airlines have dress code policies for their passengers.

torthecatlady · 15/03/2019 13:52

I think it's a top, but not something I would feel comfortable in for flying personally.

BrokenWing · 15/03/2019 13:53

Why did no one tell her she had fallen below those rules until she was already in her seat?

She was told as she boarded the plane it was inappropriate and to put on her jacket. What she was wearing was ok elsewhere, just not on the plane. Entirely reasonable to be told at this point.

AdamNichol · 15/03/2019 13:54

The don't want to risk a party atmosphere onboard as there are safety implications.
Sorry, bullshit. The 'risk' person is the middle-aged beligerant who downs 9 G&Ts mid-flight. Not the girl with an exposed midriff.

Have a think, why are certain clothes suitable for the workplace and others aren't? If you had a younger workforce force who came into work in casual revealing clothes (male and female) do you think they would act and be perceived as less professional than if they came in appropriate smart clothes? Of course they would.
Actually, my whole industry is abandoning the whole concept of business dress. They found performance and ability was much better if you hired people on merit as opposed to who managed to look the part - all the gear no idea types.
And even so, she doesn't work for them!!!!
And perhaps you should take a look at the behaviour of the 'suits' when they're out of the office...Jane Austen it ain't.

AdamNichol · 15/03/2019 13:56

I stand corrected on a detail.
But the message is you can dress like that int he airport, pass the gate control, down the tube, but not on the plane itself. And that makes sense?

Chloemol · 15/03/2019 13:58

Bra

AdamNichol · 15/03/2019 13:58

And you'll find LOTS of airlines have dress code policies for their passengers.

Lots of airlines have dress code policies for their staff (especially female). Doesn't make those right either. Being common-lace doesn't make it ok.

NiceNewShiny · 15/03/2019 14:05

I wouldn't notice it but it looks like a bra. I'd prefer people to be more covered on a plane I suppose. Don't need to be smart but I'd prefer flesh to be covered. I'd say this if it were a man or a woman so I don't think it's a sexist view.

I'm bored of people who do things like this to gain attention

BitchQueen90 · 15/03/2019 14:07

It's a top. People who are offended by it really need to get a fucking grip.

If I had her figure I'd love to wear stuff like that but I've got saggy boobs and belly fat so I'm not confident enough!

Itstimeslikethese · 15/03/2019 14:08

I'd say it's more of a bra as with a crop top you can wear a bra underneath it - with this top/bra you can't .. However she looks fine in it I don't think she needed to cover up for flying alot of young girls wear things like this , & she had her legs covered up , some girls would of had legs out too

kingfisherblue33 · 15/03/2019 14:10

I hope she rips them for every penny she can get. I'd want someone's head on a spike.

My God, what an over-reaction, AdamNichol. How on earth woud you react if something serious actually happened? You'd probably implode.

IMO the young woman is a gobby, attention-seeking twit looking for 15 minutes of fame. It'll come back and bite her if she's looking for a new job in future... FFS. What a fuss over nothing.

nocoolnamesleft · 15/03/2019 14:10

Most of my bras have better coverage than that "top"

Birdsgottafly · 15/03/2019 14:11

I've worn a dress with a similar top. I always thought that it would be easier, you could see that I hadn't concealed anything.

What she is wearing is standard Festival/Ibiza/Party destination, wear. You see it in the airport and on planes/coaches/trains.

Whilst on holiday they'll see Women in Bikinis and possibly even topless, I don't see the issue.

Dress codes for offensive clothing or tattoos is different.

I also think that the way that a few male dickhead passengers took the opportunity to verbally abuse a young Woman, should have been dealt with.

Anique105 · 15/03/2019 14:12

She seems like she wants attention. It doesnt even look good on her.

BitchQueen90 · 15/03/2019 14:13

People saying "she wants attention" do you realise that those type of tops are in fashion and thousands of women her age wear them?

AryaStarkWolf · 15/03/2019 14:15

why do people even care you can't see anything

AryaStarkWolf · 15/03/2019 14:16

She seems like she wants attention. It doesnt even look good on her.

Yes it does

Megan2018 · 15/03/2019 14:17

@BitchQueen90
Doesn’t make it appropriate atire for every situation.

I am going to an event that stipulates black tie. If I turned up in that iutfit I’d be turned away, fashion or not. Airlines can have dresscodes if they choose. I’m glad they do, I don’t want to be squashed in a seat next to some randomers bare skin. Revolting.

Lweji · 15/03/2019 14:17

I'm in two minds about this.

For one, how far can clothes policing go? Covered head?
Or how far can we go with "I can wear what I want"? Nipple tassles?

On the other hand, would I want to have a topless man (or with one of those string vests, or his belly on display) sitting next to me? Not really.

I haven't seen the clip. Sometimes people's reactions can be a lot worse than anything you wear.

Argeles · 15/03/2019 14:19

I think these type of tops are inappropriate for wearing anywhere except on the beach, since they look just like a bra or a bikini top.

I see women and girls wearing far less however than this woman, when they’re shopping and walking around in London.

In London in the warmer weather, I see so many wearing these ‘tops’ with tiny denim hot pants, that not only have rips exposing more flesh, but are cut so high at the back, that about a quarter of their arse cheeks hang out.

LondonJax · 15/03/2019 14:20

To be honest I wouldn't be offended if she was on the plane with me in that.

I would think she looked like a complete tw@t mind you, especially with the oversized trousers, but I understand many young girls like the look. It doesn't mean it suits them. But they're great entertainment. So yep, give me a giggle and carry on! We all looked like idiots at some point when we were in our teens to mid twenties and followed a craze instead of actually worked out what suited us. It's like flabby fellas in teeny vests or some women in leggings. The look only works on some but not everyone realises it. She's one that doesn't realise it I'm afraid.

But offending me? Nope.

Aridane · 15/03/2019 14:21

Doesn’t matter what it was. She wasn’t indecent. She was covered. She’s right, policing her clothes like that is outright misogyny

I think a near top less man would be asked to cover too!

Aridane · 15/03/2019 14:22

Doubt her accountancy firm employers will keep her on post qualification

Lweji · 15/03/2019 14:22

She’s 21, she can pull it off.

Surely, her age is irrelevant here.
