Job interview after a long time but obese

Hi everyone I was wondering if I would be unreasonable to ask for a hand hold . I am morbidly obese and at the moment a stay at home mum. My children are growing up and I have been on the look out for a part time job. I've now got an interview and quite frankly I'm terrified but mainly because of my weight. I have very low self esteem depression and anxiety which began following a divorce many years ago. I know I could easily do the job but I can't focus on any thing other than the fact I'm huge and I think the interviewer is going to take one look at me and laugh me out the building . I'm trying to find interview clothes and nothing is making me feel any better. I know getting a job will give me some self respect and confidence to break this vicious circle of self loathing . Would being overweight put you off employing someone . Ps I am addressing the weight but can't shift a few stone by the weekend ! Thanks all

Just seen your update well done!

Your skills, experience and personal presentation will be far more important than your weight for most jobs.

Obviously there will be particular jobs where being morbidly obese would be a hindrance such as physically demanding jobs. Hopefully you have gone for a job that isn't beyond your physical capabilities.

Be presentable, friendly and smile and you should be fine.

I'm a voluptuous size 26 and bought a classic jacket and blouse in Yours to wear to my last interview... which I rocked and got the job! I occasionally feel conscious of my size (we have to wear costume, and whilst there is stuff that fits me there is less than there would be if I were slimmer) and I have never once been judged by colleagues for my size. It's incredible, it really was 100% in my head.

I promise you that anybody who does care isn't worth working for, and that your doubts are mind monkeys in your head. That's allowed, as long as you recognise them for what they are and put them back in their cage when they try to take over!

The thing is, even the slimmest, most attractive person will have self doubts and nerves. It's not you and your body, it's you being a normal human.

Now go find a lovely outfit and find the pleasure in dressing up and seeing if they are worthy of your time! Grin

Bloody brilliantly well done OP! I’m the same size as you and I’m cheering you on.

Nearlythere1 · 17/04/2019 13:48

Get there very early and camp out somewhere nearby so you're calm and cool by the time you go in. The amount of times I've turned up somewhere dressed smartly but the second I sit down I start sweating. Give yourself a good hour to collect yourself nearby.

sorry didn't see this was a few weeks old. Well done OP!!!
