easter decorations

How long do people spend putting up Easter decorations before family/friends arrive over the long weekend like wreaths, crackers, bunting etc? or decorating the home for kids at Easter?

I've seen wreaths, crackers and crafting kits available to buy and it's just like Christmas! I've had the same Christmas decorations for a few years but never thought about Easter decorations until I recently spotted an Easter egg wreath for £25 in John Lewis and Easter
crackers for £18 from Ocado!

Isn't it all just really expensive or am I being tight? What's the average cost people spend on Easter decorations?

Nothing.

I might cut out clues or arrows for an Easter egg hunt, or make an Easter bonnet if the school demands one from my craft phobic child.

I buy a candle to light on the Saturday night I suppose.

chillychicken · 14/03/2019 11:39

I made a spring wreath last year and will use it again this year. It was a workshop where all proceeds went to a local charity, I'll probably do it again this year if it's running and make a table centrepiece.

I have eggs which I hang on branches in a vase, a wooden bunny and an egg tree. All purchased quite cheaply from Sainsbury's. I like hosting and we always have a gathering and Easter egg hunt for the children at some point over Easter, so it's nice to have a bit of decoration up.

Plus the pastel colours make me feel like spring has definitely sprung Grin

I do an Easter tree from a branch we find and hang our collection of wooden eggs on it. (Overhang from a childhood in Germany).
Have some daffodils in vases and a a chicken shaped bowl on the table.

DanielRicciardosSmile · 14/03/2019 11:50

I have never put up Easter decorations.

thedisorganisedmum · 14/03/2019 11:56

Nothing.

We buy chocolate eggs for the kids, usually a pinata or 2 because we usually have a full house, and chocolate for grown ups.

If my kids feel crafty they are free to make any decoration they like, but it's entirely up to them.

mumeeee · 14/03/2019 11:58

I don't put up Easter decorations. Didn't even know it was a thing as nobody I know do it

PBo83 · 14/03/2019 12:00

Traditional retail is suffering throughout the year so they are attempting to create more and more 'add-ons' to established occasions in order to sell more tat in the interests of pseudo 'tradition'. I'm talking:

  • Easter Decorations
  • Elfs (to go on the shelfs)
  • Christmas Eve Pyjama Box Bullshit
  • Substantial Mother's Day Tat (not just flowers, chocolates etc.)
  • Excessive Halloween Decorations and Costumes
  • Don't Get Me Started On Valentines

Probably not the best examples but hopefully you get my point. We are being told we need 'more stuff' for occasions which already had very established traditions.

cardibach · 14/03/2019 12:00

Really? Easter decorations? Why?
This is not a thing, it’s never been a thing, it’s just an excuse to get you to spend money.
(Cue loads of posters telling me they and everyone they have ever known has always done it and I’m completely wrong. That’s what happens on ‘tree-up-in-November’ threads)

Angel2702 · 14/03/2019 12:07

We don’t spend loads I’ve got things I’ve collected ted over a few years now mostly after Easter in the sales. Bought a new wreath this year and a few little bits to hang on the mini tree. I will put ours up when the kids break up for Easter.

JaceLancs · 14/03/2019 12:12

Nothing
Unless you count flowers such as tulips and daffodils
I might buy some mini eggs and put them in a dish but that will be it

burritofan · 14/03/2019 12:30

Zero. Easter crackers is, frankly, crackers. Easter comes with its own decorations – daffodils everywhere!

HeavenlyEyes · 14/03/2019 12:33

Zero - or maybe a bunch of daffs or 2 at a push.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 14/03/2019 12:39

I’ve got a box of pastel coloured bunnies and eggs from TKMaxx that I bought years ago that I put on the table in the hall and a shelf in the kitchen, a few vases of daffodils and that’s it. Not because I’m celebrating Easter mind, I just liked them.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 14/03/2019 12:41

People put up Easter decorations? Well that one has passed me by. I do buy daffs but then I usually have some flowers in the house anyway. I buy eggs (this year the marmite one has been requested) and if I am doing a roast it will probably be lamb.

Lungelady · 14/03/2019 12:41

Easter crackers? Ffs.
No decorations here. I always have flowers everywhere but not specifically for Easter.

WeepingWillowWeepingWino · 14/03/2019 12:45

I love Easter decorations, making our home look lovely and springlike and fresh.

But I wouldn't put anything up more than about a week in advance.

SrSteveOskowski · 14/03/2019 12:46

Easter decorations? Confused

Stinkytoe · 14/03/2019 12:49

I don’t put up Easter decorations and I don’t plan on ever buying them. I wonder if this is how people felt about Christmas trees in the Victorian era? Confused

Lightupthesky · 14/03/2019 12:50

None

Stompythedinosaur · 14/03/2019 12:52

I put up Easter decorations, usually the week before. I like them. It's not on a Christmas scale though, we have some pussy willow with painted eggs on and a few bunny decorations made by the dc over the years. Normally add some of those fluffy chicks as the dc like them.

It brings me pleasure and doesn't hurt anyone else.

PBo83 · 14/03/2019 13:05

It brings me pleasure and doesn't hurt anyone else.

Agree with this 100% and hope you have a lovely Easter.

I do wonder however, how much 'over-dressing' of some occasions is purely for social media boasting. I said the same at Christmas about the stupid bloody Elf and the obligatory Christmas Eve boxes. How much is ACTUALLY about the kids and how much is about showing what a great parent you are.

Like I say, not criticising your Easter decorations if they bring you pleasure :)

Angel2702 · 14/03/2019 13:36

We always have Easter crackers, Easter has always been just as celebrated as Easter. My Mum has a big table completely dressed for Easter and we have full Christmas style dinner with a Christmas pudding saved especially as well. The whole family goes so it is a big occasion and always celebrated as such.

SooticaTheWitchesCat · 14/03/2019 13:37

Easter decorations? I have never even heard of them Confused

5foot5 · 14/03/2019 13:38

I have done this occasionally, but not got round to it for the last few years.

I have a collection of eggs which I blew and then painted with acrylics and put on thread. Sometimes I find a nice shaped branch (or large twig) and stick it in a pot and hang the eggs from it.

llangennith · 14/03/2019 13:59

Never heard of Easter decorations.
