easter decorations

How long do people spend putting up Easter decorations before family/friends arrive over the long weekend like wreaths, crackers, bunting etc? or decorating the home for kids at Easter?

I've seen wreaths, crackers and crafting kits available to buy and it's just like Christmas! I've had the same Christmas decorations for a few years but never thought about Easter decorations until I recently spotted an Easter egg wreath for £25 in John Lewis and Easter
crackers for £18 from Ocado!

Isn't it all just really expensive or am I being tight? What's the average cost people spend on Easter decorations?

I love decorating my house for all the different seasons so mine is more spring decorations as I'm not Christian. I got some gorgeous decorations for different seasons in Germany, land of the Christmas tree, and now find them in Aldi and Lidl. Maybe it's only recently in the UK but other countries have been doing it for a long time. I do like to decorate my altar seasonally too.

I’ve never heard of Easter decorations either really... I don’t remember ever seeing them in anyone’s house.

Growing up, we did Easter egg hunts and a nice family meal, but that was about it for festivities.

Last time I did easter decorations was at primary school.

I don't even bother with Xmas decorations so Easter is completely beyond me. Though I do like scoffing eggs.

We never have decoration just a choc egg each and a roast lamb dinner in the Sunday. Although the supermarkets definitely seem to think you need to do a BIG shop for the day akin to Christmas.Hmm

Easter decorations ? What?
When was this ever a thing ?

LondonJax · 14/03/2019 16:14

We don't do Easter decorations and we don't buy eggs...DS hates chocolate! So I might buy a nice bar of galaxy for me and DH to share (totally missing the point of Easter eggs) and DS will probably get a little toy or comic.

Nothing, never heard of them, are you in the U.K.? Only thing we do is buy Easter eggs, oh and I make simnel cake.

I just have some daffodils, that's as decorated as I go.

We do an Easter Tree...twigs and flowers hung with eggs and chicks. My children loved it when they were little and their children enjoy it now. We put it on the sideboard or table.

I keep seeing Easter wreaths in shops. They look nice but I'm holding back because I can't think when you'd put them up. It would feel wrong to have the house decorated for Good Friday but if you put them up on Easter Sunday you'd probably have to take them down the next day or the day after which seems a bit pointless.

I do Spring decorations, which incorporate a certain Easter element (painted eggs hung from a branch).

I actually put out different decorations throughout the year - nothing major, but just something to mark the passing seasons. Some of it has been bought, some of it made, and some things I gather from outside. I think it's nice :)

say what now? easter decorations....?

Turquoisetamborine · 14/03/2019 16:30

I have Easter decorations the kids have made and my three year old picked up a couple of cute felt ones in Matalan the other day so I’ll be hanging those on some Pussy Willow branches (drove past some wild the other day, going to go and pinch some!)

Apart from the millions of Easter eggs and crafts the kids make at school that will be it. I’ll get myself a nice bouquet of hyacinths, daffs and tulips though as they say Easter to me.

I actually prefer Easter to Christmas because of the vast pressure to spend loads. I buy for my nieces and nephews (just eggs) and it’s cost me about £15. I love celebrating and having a fantastic lunch without the faff of Christmas and I’m not religious at all.

We have a tree just like Fuzzypufling and I love it. Same every year so only one initial expense. Hang a cardboard egg decoration down the wall and a few chicks and rabbits on the mantelpiece - job done.

Have vases of tulips and / or daffodils from a few weeks before eg now until Easter and do a hunt if weather dry outside. Used to do an Easter party for DD and her friends when she was younger and we usually do a roast dinner for family who are available. Not as much pressure like at Christmas so I prefer it in a way although love Christmas too.

Decorate the house a bit for Valentine's Day too and Halloween and obviously birthdays 😀
