How often do you fall over?

Just curious really. I have been surprised to the response about falling down stairs.
I fall over every few months, and always have. This ranges from tripping up and falling over on the pavement, to every few years falling all the way down stairs. I have been like this my whole life so I am not worried there is anything wrong. Just wondering if this is unusual?

I've always fallen over don't know how often never paid that much attention but more than other people, I don't hurt myself very often though bar a bruise. I also am very clumsy and drop things many many times a day, it used to frustrate me but I'm used to it now 🤷‍♀️

ChestOfFields · 13/03/2019 14:08

(Reading another thread, I think I might need to go to the doctors!)

Mummyoflittledragon · 13/03/2019 14:17

Rarely. It would be very difficult for me if I did.

I'm always falling up the stairs

7Pip · 13/03/2019 14:22

I think if you've good core strength, you'll avert a tumble. That said, give me enough alcohol, and I'll fall out of my standing without even moving. Another thing I've noticed is people who wear glasses fall a lot and also very tall people (presumably as trip hazards aren't in their immediate line of vision).

notsmartenough · 13/03/2019 14:23

I dread falling over as nowadays I wouldn't be able to get up again without help.

As an adult I have fallen over three times in the street.
First time my friend was with me but walked off and pretended she didn't know me (we were teenagers!).
Worst fall was flat on my back. I'd actually tripped on a banana skin (who does that in real life?) and was badly bruised.

I am always having near misses though.

I haven’t seen the stairs thread but I fell down mine before Christmas. I am constantly covered in bruises as I often walk into things, fall over things, ever into door frames etc and I trip up and lose my footing all the time. I’m just clumsy, always have been.

LouiseCollins28 · 13/03/2019 14:29

The worst one I ever had was falling on an icy side road while returning to Cambridge station after a meeting I was supposed to go to got cancelled unexpectedly. I'd travelled for 2 hrs to be there (from somewhere non snowy!) and was wearing high heels with a business outfit, I ended up in a heap in the middle of a mercifully deserted side road.

7Pip · 13/03/2019 14:30

One I'm good at doing though, is looking behind me while opening a door and then twacking myself in the face when I turn around.

Last time I fell, I sprained my wrist (was out of action for 3 weeks). I managed this by somehow getting the belt of my dressing gown tangled up in chair and legs while I was sitting down. Went to stand up, and woopsie. 'How did it happen?' 'I fell off a chair'. Yup. They believed me alright!

MaMisled · 13/03/2019 14:31

I have adopted a dangerous habit of Internet shopping whilst walking my dogs. I trip on tree roots or fall down badger setts approximately once a week, more often than not, falling on my left shoulder, which constantly hurts like fuckery.

TapasForTwo · 13/03/2019 14:32

Very, very rarely. I do pilates, HIIT and go running occasionally. Falling over this frequently is not normal at all.

Onescaredmuma · 13/03/2019 14:34

I have dyspraxia its a very good day if I don't fall down or walk into something Blush

Chouetted · 13/03/2019 14:36

@7Pip the very tall thing is definitely a problem - I occasionally trip over small children who have suddenly walked in front of me - if you're below knee-level, you're really quite difficult to see.

And then the child gets told off for not looking where they're going Blush

Doghorsechicken · 13/03/2019 14:38

I don’t think regularly falling for no apparent reason is normal, I would think there’s something wrong. Even when I used to do fell running I never fell over. I’m glad because I carry DS on my back whilst walking the dogs so I would be quite concerned if it was a regular occurance!

CrohnicallyEarly · 13/03/2019 14:38

I fell off my chair a few weeks ago. Fell out of my front door (caught my foot on the step and couldn't right myself as I had baby in my arms) a few months ago. Have slipped and come down a few stairs on my bottom a couple of times in the last few years. Missed sitting on my chair and landed on the floor a couple of years ago, also managed to miss sitting on DD1's bed in the night.

Other than that, I frequently walk into tables, misjudge where the door is, stub my toes, hit my hands on things as I'm walking. I have so many bruises at any given time I have had blood tests to make sure there's no underlying health condition!

But no. I am autistic which often comes with coordination difficulties, and I've recently been diagnosed with MS which won't help (but my clumsiness started way before my Ms symptoms did!)

I often get told to 'be more careful'. But I get such ridiculous injuries, in ways that no one could have predicted. I once pulled a muscle just sitting on the sofa- am I never allowed to relax?

Worriedaboutmyds · 13/03/2019 14:39

I fall over way to much for a supposedly competent adult Blush it's a bit of a running joke that I'm very clumsy and trip and stumbled a lot. Probably been about 6 months since I last hit the floor though. I've always been like this. My 2 sons are fine but my daughter inherited my clumsy falling downness which is both hilarious and frustrating. She's often very cross with me when she fall because it's my fault she follows me apparently Grin
Wondering after reading this thread though if there's something wrong with me Confused

NameChanger9000 · 13/03/2019 14:40

Never fall over but bash my arms on door handles quite & walk into door frames alot. My DH says I have no spacial awareness Hmm

clairemcnam · 13/03/2019 14:42

I don't think there is anything wrong with me, although if I was a child now, I might get diagnosed with dyspraxia. I see there are lots of us on this thread who are just clumsy, in spite of trying not to be.

aliceelizaloves · 13/03/2019 14:45

I don't remember the last time I fell over. Probably a good few years ago.

thatmustbenigelwiththebrie · 13/03/2019 14:48

I don't fall over much but I am always swinging my hand into things as I pass - it's like I have awful spatial awareness. Wheelie bins are the worst, but just generally walls, banisters, parked cars. I constantly have bruised knuckles.

CrohnicallyEarly · 13/03/2019 14:48

And just like that, I popped out to the he shed, misjudged a step and stumbled, then the shed door swung closed a bit behind me and I hit my elbow on the door handle!

Processedpea · 13/03/2019 14:49

never, since giving up drinking :)

PetuliaBlavatsky · 13/03/2019 14:52

I have some hyper mobile joints and also have pernicious anaemia (b12 deficiency) and used to trip, stumble and drop things a LOT. Much reduced now that my b12 deficiency is treated but I still have loose/wobbly ankles so go over on them maybe once a year.
