With your patronising reminders to get a fucking smear test, you self righteous bores.

I do by the way, because I have to have an in date one for other medical procedures to be carried out. But I have concerns regarding false positives and unnecessary stress and procedures. And I am so bored of so many people with what appears an absolute lack of critical thinking self righteously reminding others to go for them on social media. Are you the fucking smear police? Have you read the science or are you just on the bandwagon Hmm

On balance I'd probably still have one, even if I didnt HAVE to. But the lecturing just annoys me.

They’re at an all time low. People are dying.

YABU.

KatnissMellark · 12/03/2019 21:24

Well everyone knows that don't they @Marmite27, there's an NHS campaign. I don't need Jane from the bloody co op lecturing me on Facebook.

OP posts:
Aridane · 12/03/2019 21:24

I agree, OP - the sanctimonious hectoring gets on my wick

HaventGotAllDay · 12/03/2019 21:25

But you're ok lecturing us?

HerRoyalFattyness · 12/03/2019 21:25

YABU.

Id rather my friends and family be reminded to get a smear, be able to read up on them through various platforms and hear and read other womens experiences than refuse to get one because theyre scary and its a bit taboo to talk about, so they just ignore the changes in their body and end up dead.

HerRoyalFattyness · 12/03/2019 21:25

God, thats a garbled mess. I know what i mean though!

user1473878824 · 12/03/2019 21:26

I’d rather someone put it up on Facebook too much than someone else died. I get what you mean but I can’t get that pissed off about cancer warnings.

mynameiscalypso · 12/03/2019 21:27

I think smears are important but it's also important to acknowledge that, for some people, they can be incredibly traumatic and that the risk is something that they are willing to take. At the end of the day, women should have autonomy over their bodies and the choice as to what they do and don't consent to.

KatnissMellark · 12/03/2019 21:27

I'm only lecturing you if you're a self righteous bore @HaventGotAllDay...take that as you will

OP posts:
CaptainHammer · 12/03/2019 21:29

Yabu.
I didn’t know smears were at an all time low until last week when I saw a Facebook post about it that a friend had shared.

You’ve had your smear so just scroll on by. It’s not difficult.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 12/03/2019 21:29

... but it's a health campaign to identity something at an early stage, that could kill you. Some people probably do need the kick up the arse to book.
Can't you just let it go instead of getting angry about it?

FenellaMaxwell · 12/03/2019 21:29

I’m currently undergoing treatment after an abnormal smear. I couldn’t give a shiny shit if idiots like you get the hump from posts encouraging smear tests, because one person, just one, might think “shit, Jane from coop is right - my test is overdue.” And that makes it 100% worth it.

saffy1234 · 12/03/2019 21:30

Just ignore it if it offends you so-however if you'd of ever seen/nursed a 28 year old and a 26 year old and a new mum of twins who went on to die of cervical cancer you'd probably wish like me someone had been a self righteous bore and made sure they have one

TheFlis12345 · 12/03/2019 21:32

I know 2 amazing women who died of cervical cancer before they were 30 because they just didn’t get around to having smears when they should have. YABU.

Hahaha88 · 12/03/2019 21:32

Yabvu!
@FenellaMaxwell has said it spot on. Wine for you. Wishing you all the best

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 12/03/2019 21:32

Just ignore it then? You are well informed and would go for the test anyway, but there are people who aren’t unfortunately. The low level of take up is not down to people who have read up, balanced up the risks and decided not to go for it. It’s people who just haven’t engaged with it at all.

StillCoughingandLaughing · 12/03/2019 21:34

You clearly know your own mind - so scrolling down to the next post shouldn’t be beyond you.

WorraLiberty · 12/03/2019 21:35

Oh get over yourself and while you're at it, why have you got 'Jane from the Co-op' on FB anyway?

Are you one of those people who add absolutely everyone because it makes you feel popular or validated in some way?

Shortandsweet96 · 12/03/2019 21:35

You dont want to be reminded? Great, dont read it.

But that 'patronising self righteous' reminder could save someone life, OP.

Sunflower1989 · 12/03/2019 21:36

Congrats on having the knowledge and experience to have yourself checked without warnings or reminders. The campaign you're aware of highlights the fact many don't have your confidence or realise the seriousness of the need to get checked. The statistics surely show there is a need for these 'lectures' to be shared. In my opinion YABU.

KatnissMellark · 12/03/2019 21:36

@FenellMaxwell I hope all goes well with your treatment. I know several people who have gone through it and had the all clear Flowers

I'm beginning to think perhaps I'm unreasonable. I bloody hate being lectured, particularly by people who know very little about the subject and are just re-sharing to be part of the bandwagon. However I can see other people view it differently.

OP posts:
Vulpine · 12/03/2019 21:38

Strange life saving thing to get angry about

guiltynetter · 12/03/2019 21:45

YABU. mine was overdue cos I was pregnant when they sent the letter. I've been putting it off but seeing all the posts on Facebook pushed me to finally make an appointment. the smear police do work sometimes.

Justheretogiveaviewfrommyworld · 12/03/2019 21:48

YABVVU. It saves lives and is a luxury that many women would give their right arm to access. Out of interest, do you vote?

ideasofmarch · 12/03/2019 21:48

If this campaign saves one more person's life then it will have served its purpose.

YABU
