I'm really enjoying the thread in here about what is the best money you have ever spent, so thought we could do a reverse one?

Mine is spending ££££ on genuine Jo Malone perfume, smelt heavenly for all of 20 minutes then just totally faded away to nothing Angry

5 year fix Northern Rock mortgage in March 2004 at 4.99%. Was made redundant in March 2008. Have never been able to remortgage since as income doesn't stack up - even though I've managed to pay £750 mortgage a month without fail. Grrrr

2 pairs of Jimmy Choo shoes at £450 a pop. One pair are half a size too small. Others are too high - my centre of gravity shifted when I loaded weight on. Neither pair been worn but I can't get rid.

I have a Miele vacuum cleaner; it’s brilliant. It broke after about 6 years and Miele fixed it for £90- replacing the whole handle.

'won' a family photo shoot following a baby event I attended

This is a well known scam - as I am sure you probably know now, which every entrant into the draw "wins". I don't know why they haven't been banned.

CaptainNelson · 13/03/2019 17:41

sparkling I have that stuff too. Makes me look like a ghost. I hate beauty sales counters and that was definitely a rip off.

£££ Mattress with a 10cm Memory foam layer. Got rid of it after 3 sleepless weeks,

ellesworth · 13/03/2019 17:48

I would have said my degree but I didn't pay for it. It was a waste though, did nothing with it.

I bought a kitchenaid type mixer as it was only about £40. It got used about three times and now sits in the cupboard. May dig it out to get darling toddler to make cakes tomorrow.

A crib for first DS, he lasted a week it it and hated it. Moved him to the cot and he slept like a log

I am hyper anxious about wasting money which comes from having very little (or none often) when my mother left my father and had to keep two DDs on her own.

Nevertheless, I have a principle now that if I have wasted some dosh and it hasn't broken the bank or put me out on the street I can forget about the idiocy.

2 virgin hot air balloon vouchers. Appalling appalling con, impossible to get your money back

Weirdly enough, they fly over where I live (I think the "airport" is in the adjacent village), but so rarely as to be remarked on when it occurs.

The scam I hear is that, 70% of the time, the wind is too blowy for the "flight" and is cancelled at the last minute. You then have to rebook a month later and the vouchers expire after 12 months, irrespective of whether you've had multiple cancellations. Was this your experience (this was a colleague's)?

£1200 on a limited edition Rolf Harris picture for my husband

My DH was very proud of his before the news. We sold it at a car boot sale for £75, and even that was quite a hair raising morning.

ProfessorofPerspective · 13/03/2019 18:05

I feel slightly better after reading all these. I don't think I am brilliant with money but don't have too many horror stories.

I did pay £1400 for a course that I needed for a business to be registered and never finished it but haven't stayed in the line of work down the line, so I suppose it did the job.

My brand new SMEG dishwasher was appalling from day one. Had service people look at it but no luck. Eventually took it to the tip, bought a second hand one from Facebook for £40 and it's brilliant.

Shamoogren · 13/03/2019 18:11

Really chuckling at the Rolf Harris limited edition experience in the car boot sale. Who the fuck would buy that??!!

TatianaLarina · 13/03/2019 18:12

£600 on a portable sauna. It’s actually quite good but I’ve only used it twice.

Cuntymoodagain · 13/03/2019 18:17

A Range Rover Vogue SE. Don’t get me wrong it’s stunning, I love it, but this sodding car is bleeding me dry. It’s another £500 today because it’s failed it’s MOT. Every few months something else breaks...... £500, but I just can’t give it up

TatianaLarina · 13/03/2019 18:17

I’ve always had Miele vacuums and they’re great. Tried other brands but they were poor by comparison.

OrigamiZoo · 13/03/2019 18:18

Yes to scented sanitary protection, they were so perfumed they made me and all my clothes smell and what is worse, I could smell when other women were wearing them. Binned.

A personalised dating service just before online dating exploded - I met about three totally unsuitable men then I had some traumatic personal events and the last thing I needed was to be dating. I never used it, my membership expired and that was ££££ lost.

LiGlitterBug · 13/03/2019 18:20

@Parly is your Shitlet a Starlet? I have one of those (23 years old now!) and she is a bloody dream car in terms of reliability and stamina! Was a third hand hand-me-down from sister in law and a freebie as they were happy for the car to stay in the family. My husband has spent much more on much fancier cars and always ended up with some problems, whereas mine just chugs on!

IrisAnon · 13/03/2019 18:21

Anything cashmere. Looks divine, feels divine.......one wash and I always seem to shrink it no matter the method I try.

ProfessorofPerspective · 13/03/2019 18:24

Must admit, I was surprised that someone would give us money for it! Just had a look on eBay out of curiosity - there is still quite a bouyant market...

Notsurewhat1981 · 13/03/2019 18:27

First wedding, exercise equipment, any clothes that were more high end than primark for sproggerdoo 🙄 oow- eye bag fillers-jeez! So the lass was all legit ex nurse blah blah. She keeps going and going under my right eye and it's hurting like hell. So it's really 'plump' and she's pleased, I'm dubious. Never settles down and I tell her so, but night before I'm due to go back the 3yr old catches me in it with a slap, so I'm told to let it settle again.. Goes through my wedding with a golf ball under my eye n lose the will, all for a few hundred quid 👍

The80sweregreat · 13/03/2019 18:27

All of you with bikes, gym equipment, mixers, gadgets etc etc eBay is your friend!
You lose money but it's still better than having to store it somewhere or trip over it!

donajimena · 13/03/2019 18:28

wedgie the thread isn't called whats the crappest item you've bought and as you flagged my post if you read it properly you'll see I've said the item worked well.

GwynethsToothKale · 13/03/2019 18:30

£50 fucking quid when we went fruit picking one lovely day, and ended up with stupid amounts of ripe and must be eaten immediately fruit. Absolutely shameful.
I also have a brand new Hush dress hanging in my wardrobe that in my head I love the idea of, but in reality will likely never wear.

GwynethsToothKale · 13/03/2019 18:31

Hush dress cost me £70. I'll never wear it.

Mazzystarlett · 13/03/2019 18:32

£400 on two "bargain" sofas last year. They are so low to the ground the only one who can get on and off them easily is my 9 year old. After both of us falling on our arses trying to get out the damn things we cracked and bought new ones. Roll on May when they get delivered!

millythepink · 13/03/2019 18:34

eBay it gwenythstoothkale. There's a roaring trade in Hush clothes on there x
