I'm really enjoying the thread in here about what is the best money you have ever spent, so thought we could do a reverse one?

Mine is spending ££££ on genuine Jo Malone perfume, smelt heavenly for all of 20 minutes then just totally faded away to nothing Angry

Audi A4. Lots of small issues and then needed a new engine at 38k miles. Never ever again buying an Audi.

Whatevaminga · 13/03/2019 18:36

Without a doubt: Nappy bin.

donajimena · 13/03/2019 18:37

With regards to the Rolf pictures a guy in the gallery in the centre of town tried to persuade me to buy one. It wasn't cheap I think it was 750. He explained that if I thought about it, due to his age he might pop his clogs soon and it would rocket in value.
Thank goodness I was skint. If I remember correctly it was a safari themed picture.

Jojobythesea · 13/03/2019 18:38

@OrigamiZoo hahaha. The scented sanitary towel! I had some of these as they didn't really mention it being scented on the box. I did use them but didn't like them. Then a while later I bought a Nivea antiperspirant and spent all day at work thinking 'my god. I'm sure I didn't use one of those awful Scented STs today'..... they must use the same scent for the deodorant as that's what it was I could smell. I spent all day smelling like a giant sanitary towel. Needless to say I've never bought either since 😂😂😂😂.

£1250 in a Renault Megane. It was lovely to drive but leaked everywhere (door we’ll always full of water) and it was a total death trap bag of shit. I had to scrap it 8 months after I bought it.

TokyoSushi · 13/03/2019 18:40

£4902 on my own garage

Jetstream · 13/03/2019 18:40

I have a 2006 Clio campus, second hand. I bought it due to its sturdiness as I am vertically challenged. I’d a problem with the chip in the key, cost me a fortune to replace it.
Interestingly due one service the garage pointed out that although the registeration plate says 2006 different parts in the car are made in different years or leftover stock is used in newer model. The clio is a fringe car made up of bits of other Renault car models.

Can I add a Quesadilla maker?

The idea was sound but sadly the UK doesn't have tortillas anywhere near the size of the machine so nothing seals and you end up with a leaky mess.

BlackPrism · 13/03/2019 18:43

@BlueStockingUK ah, I see what you mean about junior/senior stylist pricing, they can be funny.
I wasn't trolling I was just confused, I have to check the online price list because if I don't then I may literally not have the money for something.

My worst thing was a leather jacket for £180 aged 16, I saved for months and hated it after a few weeks as it was heavy and actually quite ugly. That or my couch for £500 which we realised a few months I'm aggravated my eczema, was too small and hard as a rock once the cushioning was a bit worn.

myhouseistoocold · 13/03/2019 18:47

First mortgage, stupid fixed rate due to not really understanding it all.

Wedding £4k - still married to lovely DH but the day was a disaster (me caring for our clingy 2.5 yr old ruined it totally)

Two years of private primary school £30k - totally pointless, DS didn't take SATs and is now in lower groups than he should be at new secondary.

My current house, stupidly expensive for what it is and not really suitable - I end up sitting on my bed in the evenings like I'm a student cause there's nowhere else.

myhouseistoocold · 13/03/2019 18:48

Oh and £800 on some dodgy roofing guys to put a new roof on my shed that looked crap and we had to replace it.

ProfessorofPerspective · 13/03/2019 18:53

I think DH paid £500 some years ago and was rather hoping it would rise in value! To be fair, it was a perfectly nice impressionist style painting of an Italian scene. It was very pleasant and we had it hanging up for a number of years before the news. So we did get plenty of value out of it.
The pleasure went out of it completely!

PassTheDutchie · 13/03/2019 18:54

A record I wanted, numbered and coloured vinyl and rather rare. Cost me £75. Most I've ever spent on a record. I don't even spend that on clothes

JaniceBattersby · 13/03/2019 18:54

Gorgeous, expensive velvet sofas. I have children and with the best will in the world, at some point they’re going to get chocolate or snot on them. Only wish I’d read the small print which states that they can’t be cleaned at all, by anything, not even spot cleaning. Even a baby wipe leaves a mark. And they’ve faded so badly where the sun hits them. Never again.

GoofyIsACow · 13/03/2019 18:59

Dfs sofa, it’s a broken old piece of shit and i only made the final payment last week :(

Housemum · 13/03/2019 19:02

Loft conversion - we were on the borderline of height, it didn’t really serve the purpose we wanted it to. DD1 never moved into the room in the end so it was an expensive spare room.

alwaysthinkingofsleep · 13/03/2019 19:05

A flat in 2006, bought just before the crash. It still hasn't recovered its value. And the associated solicitors fees as they failed to pick out something pretty catastrophic! Bane of my life.

Riversguidebook · 13/03/2019 19:06

Cozmo robot

£179 and he’s played with it 3 times since Christmas

Graziass · 13/03/2019 19:09

I've just twigged about the Rolf Harris pictures. I wondered why you would ever have wanted to hang a picture of Rolf on your wall. Then I remembered he was an artist..........

Lovemusic33 · 13/03/2019 19:10

Personalised number plate £400 (drunken buy).
Campervan £4000 and still chucking money at it to get it road worthy.

KitKat1985 · 13/03/2019 19:18

A baby sling for £50 for DD2. I was told that a sling would be a lifesaver with a toddler to run around after, and baby could nap in it whilst I played with toddler or had DD1 in her buggy, so bought one when pregnant. Unfortunately DD2 hated it with a passion and screamed like she was being murdered every time I put her in it, so a complete waste of money.

GwynethsToothKale · 13/03/2019 19:27

@millythepink but I might wear it one day 😂

grannieanne · 13/03/2019 19:27

100 quid on that fucking Forever Living, shitty, snake oil, Aloe Vera cleansing juice crap.. I basically handed over 100 beans and shat the lot out for absolutely sod all

gowgow · 13/03/2019 19:31

Vaginal deodorant in the 1970s. I was told it tasted horrible.

OhTheRoses · 13/03/2019 19:33

Rover 416i. Head gasket went destroying the engine at 7000 miles the again at 25000. Rover replaced it after a lot of correspondence the second time. Did another 18k and sold it. Worst buy ever.
