AIBU to go to A&E despite seeing GP at 4 o’clock?

I’m at a loss at what to do and would really appreciated your honest opinion. If I’m being over dramatic I would like to know!

I suffer from chronic pain and 6 weeks ago got taken off all pain medication as pain clinic suspects that the pain clinic is actually making my pain signals worse.

Since then I have been having flare ups that although a real struggle, I have managed to push through.

Today I woke up feeling like I normally would (in pain but definitely manageable). As the day went on I got a lot worse and by 3 o’clock I was close to tears and couldn’t cope. Called and made emergency GP appointment.

By the time of appointment my face was bright red, had a headache and every inch of my body hurt.

Doctor examined me and said I sound asthmatic and definitely have a chest infection with possibility of a blood infection (no common chest infection symptoms to me). Happy with the diagnosis and given antibiotics.

Since then my upper arms are red with purple blotches that comes and goes, when my face goes beetroot red, I get pressure in my head and started to get chills the past 2 hours.

My partner is adamant I should go to A&E incase the GP has missed anything but I know how busy the hospital staff are and wouldn’t want to waste time, to be given to same diagnosis.

I’m just concerned the symptoms are coming out so suddenly However,given I’ve only had one antibiotic, I can’t expect miracles!!

Any advised greatly appreciated, I have no experience of this and don’t know if we are just over reacting!

Call the ooh GP and see them . Hope you feel better soon .

I think you should definitely go to A+E with the sudden worsen of your symptoms.

Ring 111 see what they say . You might be able to get an out of hours drs appointment rather than waiting hours in a&e. They might say go straight to hospital

Do you have a temp? I’d call 111 or just go to a and e tbh. What causes your pain?

Possible blood infection? Of course you shouldn’t worry about wasting their time! Surely blood infection warrants hospital?? Hope you feel better quickly

I think you should go to the hospital because there are more symptoms than there were when you went to GP.
You sound as if you are going to worry about this so best to try to ease your mind and find out another opinion

sounds like a reaction to the antibiotics.

I would call 111, especially if you have symptoms now that you didn’t have when you saw the GP. Is your skin mottled? If so and you have a fever you should go to A&E - have a look at the red flags for sepsis. You sound really unwell, with symptoms that could be an emergency - that’s what A&E is for.

People go to A&E for a lot less minor things. Definitely go. You wont be wasting their time.

Please go to a&e and get checked out.

Thanks for the quick replies, I hadn’t thought of 111 for an out of hours appointment. Can’t really concentrate with the pain.

I have chronic pelvic pain originally put down to PCOS but since having a laparoscopy 6 months ago, the pain has spread through my whole body and Doctors are still investigating why.

Please go. It might be serious, it might not be, but it needs a professional to assess it. That’s not wasting their time; it’s what they’re there for.

Please go. Purple blotches doesn’t sound good and if you’ve had an infection it could possibly indicate sepsis.

I would go to A&E. Those symptoms sound very worrying.

I'd go. I thought blood infection means sepsis? Mottled skin and chills are a symptom of sepsis, I always thought intravenous antibiotics were needed in that case as it's so serious. I'm not a medical person by any means but I wouldn't chance it

Did the GP take your temperature? Has it gone up since?

A couple of months ago I was dismissed by my gp 3 separate times, I finally let DH take me up to A&E and they were shocked at the state of me, I had all the signs of sepsis and ended up having emergency surgery and a week long admission

Shivers, temperature and discoloured skin, not good...

You have new symptoms so you need to be re- assessed.

AmIRightOrAMeringue you are mixing up spesis and specisemia. Spesis is when your body starts failing as a result of infection, essentially attaking itself and specisemia is a type of infection in the blood.
