AIBU to go to A&E despite seeing GP at 4 o’clock?

Hello,

I’m at a loss at what to do and would really appreciated your honest opinion. If I’m being over dramatic I would like to know!

I suffer from chronic pain and 6 weeks ago got taken off all pain medication as pain clinic suspects that the pain clinic is actually making my pain signals worse.

Since then I have been having flare ups that although a real struggle, I have managed to push through.

Today I woke up feeling like I normally would (in pain but definitely manageable). As the day went on I got a lot worse and by 3 o’clock I was close to tears and couldn’t cope. Called and made emergency GP appointment.

By the time of appointment my face was bright red, had a headache and every inch of my body hurt.

Doctor examined me and said I sound asthmatic and definitely have a chest infection with possibility of a blood infection (no common chest infection symptoms to me). Happy with the diagnosis and given antibiotics.

Since then my upper arms are red with purple blotches that comes and goes, when my face goes beetroot red, I get pressure in my head and started to get chills the past 2 hours.

My partner is adamant I should go to A&E incase the GP has missed anything but I know how busy the hospital staff are and wouldn’t want to waste time, to be given to same diagnosis.

I’m just concerned the symptoms are coming out so suddenly Sad However, given I’ve only had one antibiotic, I can’t expect miracles!!

Any advised greatly appreciated, I have no experience of this and don’t know if we are just over reacting!

Yes phone 111 - they'll advise A & E or a GP appointment from your symptoms.

mumwon · 11/03/2019 22:02

my dh has recently come out of hospital with bacteraemia this can lead to septicaemia - please go to a & e

ATBhinchers · 11/03/2019 22:03

Don't just go call 111 first. If they say go to a&e you then "queue jump" as you've been diagnosed enough over the phone to warrant being there. Happened to me recently also suspected blood infection. Turned out to be a kidney infection mixed with pneumonia but the symptoms came out so suddenly it was scary. Don't delay OP.

ThelmaDinkley · 11/03/2019 22:04

Please go to A & E you don't sound well at all and fad mentioned your symptoms suggest sepsis. Hope you get sorted quickly and feel better soon x

ThelmaDinkley · 11/03/2019 22:05

As mentioned not fad mentioned!

Sleepyhead11 · 11/03/2019 22:06

Go, it could be really serious, although hopefully it's not. X

rainbowstardrops · 11/03/2019 22:12

I'm not one to usually rush to A&E but I think you should definitely go

DanielRicciardosSmile · 11/03/2019 22:16

Hope you're in A&E now OP. I think your symptoms definitely warrant further tests at the very least.

Mrscog · 11/03/2019 22:19

Definitely A&E - tell them you’re concerned about sepsis. Good luck and get well soon 💐

FaithInfinity · 11/03/2019 22:23

I’m a nurse and I’d advise you seek urgent medical attention. GPs can’t always get a diagnosis right and your symptoms have progressed since you were seen. You could call 111, you might get seen sooner in OOH and if they need to admit you, get directly admitted rather than have a long wait in A&E.

SirVixofVixHall · 11/03/2019 22:23

Hope you are in A and E now op, really sounds as though you need to be seen.

Didiplanthis · 11/03/2019 22:30

Definately go. Things can change alot in 6 hours. Just because things were ok at 4 doesn't mean it is now. Doesn't mean something was missed but things may have progressed.

MedicalMystery1 · 11/03/2019 22:32

Thank you all for your best wishes.

Nearly at A&E now. 111 was going to arrange an ambulance but we live ten minutes away from the hospital so decided to take the car.

My temperature was 37.2 at the GP but now 36.5 so a drop in body temperature.

A&E is a good idea. It could be sepsis or a serious reaction to the new antibiotic.

Itssosunny · 11/03/2019 22:32

Go to the A&E, symptoms sounds terrible.

Pieceofpurplesky · 11/03/2019 22:33

Hope all is ok

IHateUncleJamie · 11/03/2019 22:34

Well done. Keep us posted. xx Flowers

HoraceCope · 11/03/2019 22:36

Best wishes

itsboiledeggsagain · 11/03/2019 22:41

All the best op.
My reading of it is that the pain back story is a slight red herring and that this is a independent event that needs addressing

BlackeyedGruesome · 11/03/2019 22:44

Good luck

Propertywoes · 11/03/2019 22:44

Glad to hear you're on the way to hospital.

Imacliche · 11/03/2019 22:45

Good luck op

ThorsMistress · 11/03/2019 22:51

PepsiLola · 11/03/2019 22:52

That really doesn't sound right, I keep reading news articles about sepsis... it scares me so much that I would get checked out
