To be so traumatised

Smotheroffive · 11/03/2019 13:55

I have been so shocked and upset by the drama Line of Duty.

I hadn't realised it was true, maybe naïvely, yes.

It was absolutely horrific the actual stuff that went on, the actual serving officers killed in the line of duty, and those that went to prison in the line of duty, all trying to uncover a massive cover up by men systematically abusing children in care homes.

Sad

Timberwolf getting over-excited on MN is never a good thing.... I refer you back to the chapel again.... Grin Grin

DoneLikeAKipper · 11/03/2019 16:26

I stand corrected... third time I have ever posted and I got over excited

Well instead of saying you’ve been corrected, you’re meant to dig your heels in and argue your non-valid point! Do you not understand Mumsnet GrinWink.

Huskylover1 · 11/03/2019 16:32

I get you Op.

I think if I'm understanding this right, you watched it knowing it was a drama, but then at the end, when they gave updates as to what had happened to everyone, you thought "Hang on, was that based on real events?" I've certainly done that before, it takes you a minute wondering whether it was based on fact, or purely fictional.

You've posted on here, gotten torn to shreds and now feel a bit silly. Don't! It is confusing sometimes when drama's do this.

Anyway, next series starts soon, so keep your eyes peeled for it!

Topseyt · 11/03/2019 16:34

Don't watch films like Titanic, OP. You would blow a fuse there, as that IS based on fact, even though several of the characters in it were fictional.

PuppyMonkey · 11/03/2019 16:35

And... when Jane Eyre says “reader, I married him.” Are you lot saying she didn’t really? GrinWink

SinkGirl · 11/03/2019 16:36

bless you, it was H.G Wells

Well, that was embarrassing.

OP has tripled down at this point.

OP, just in case you ever do watch Fargo (you should, it’s amazing), it says “this is a true story” at the start of every episode (and the film it’s loosely based on). I appreciate this may be a spoiler... but it’s not real. HTH.

Smotheroffive · 11/03/2019 16:38

Watched Titanic, was absolutely devastatingly affected, was such a drama llama over that I was admitted to hospital boring film

Vanlady · 11/03/2019 16:41

Smotherofive, no seriously. How do you cope in the real world?

Smotheroffive · 11/03/2019 16:42

Oh bless you Confused. We're at war!!!

Oh bless you

Thanks for that Huskey
I was just thinking about the davinci code and the 00,000's since on the trail....

...and Blair witch used the same tactic, but it was new then, and had massive impact as a result of a cheap trick

OP posts:
Smotheroffive · 11/03/2019 16:44

I don't Vanlady I live in a psyche unit for drama llamas!

OP posts:
DotForShort · 11/03/2019 16:47

Blair witch used the same tactic, but it was new then

It really wasn't.

Smotheroffive · 11/03/2019 16:49

No need to shout Nick sorry you didn't understand. Perhaps you can concoct your own work of fiction. 😂😂😂😂😂.

OP posts:
caughtinanet · 11/03/2019 16:49

Well I'm thoroughly confused - do you or do you not realise that LOD is a drama based on the fact that police corruption exists in the same way that Breaking Bad is a drama based on the fact that drug dealers exist, for example.

Neither are holding themselves out as documentaries

Smotheroffive · 11/03/2019 16:50

Oh and sorry.. Yes, weave brexit into it as well or anything you see fit or otherwise relevant Confused

😂😂😂😂😂

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 11/03/2019 16:50

What are you talking about? I asked you a question (repeatedly) which was perfectly valid.

And at least I understood LOD........

UnspiritualHome · 11/03/2019 16:52

I don't understand why you think it's wrong that the drama is authentic and that that somehow blurs the lines. Surely the vast majority of film and TV dramas are rooted in real life and they therefore try to make them authentic? Look at all the other hospital shows, for instance - they put the actors into realistic NHS type uniforms, the set designs are like NHS hospitals, the hospitals may well have NHS logos, and they employ someone to advise them about medical and NHS procedures. Does that mean that they're blurring the lines and playing shit tricks?

It is now presumably, from what all are saying, a regular feature of a lot of TV (which, I don't follow, so haven't experience of,but I know it has been done in the past to convince audiences of authenticity).

No, it's not just "now" a regular feature. TV dramas have always tried to go for authenticity, right back to the days of Dixon of Dock Green However, generally they are much better at it now.

UnspiritualHome · 11/03/2019 16:54

The Telegraph headline...

Line of Duty: the history of the real AC-12 and the fight against police corruption

Well yes. They're telling you about the real department on which the show is based because, unsurprisingly (I hope) the police do try to root out misconduct and corruption. They're not saying that Line of Duty actually depicts the real department.

Starch · 11/03/2019 16:55

I’ve seen soap actors interviewed and they’d recount how people would accost them in the street, believing that they were really the character they portrayed.

I used to think ‘nah, surely not?!’

Guess they do exist after all...

onalongsabbatical · 11/03/2019 17:00

I think OP has flipped from naïve snowflake Sistine Chapel hysteric to cynical mumsnet-wise goady fucker in about 5 moves. Nice one, OP. Grin

Smotheroffive · 11/03/2019 17:04

Well I'm thoroughly confused

Oh dear god no, we can't have that

OP posts:
ghostyslovesheets · 11/03/2019 17:06

just to save future distress:

Space is real - Star Wars is set in Space but not real

Doctor Who - Doctors - real, Police Boxes - Real - travelling in time and space - not real.

Casualty - Hospitals and Doctors - real - Holby - not real - Carlie - not an actual nurse (not married to Duffy either)

Tomtontom · 11/03/2019 17:08

Do you have a "Free the Weatherfield One" t-shirt OP?

MinisterforCheekyFuckery · 11/03/2019 17:09

I know I'm missing the point of the thread but I do wish people would stop using the word "traumatised" when they actually mean upset. It is not at all the same thing.

ssd · 11/03/2019 17:11

Blimey I can't keep up with this thread but anyhoo..... Is LOD worth watching then, I've never seen it?
