To be so traumatised

I have been so shocked and upset by the drama Line of Duty.

I hadn't realised it was true, maybe naïvely, yes.

It was absolutely horrific the actual stuff that went on, the actual serving officers killed in the line of duty, and those that went to prison in the line of duty, all trying to uncover a massive cover up by men systematically abusing children in care homes.

Sad

What about the headline?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 11/03/2019 16:00

TwitterQueen Grin.

Total derail but I bloody love Vicky Mclure but I also found her character in LOD annoying. I realise how blasphemous this statement is.

DawgLover · 11/03/2019 16:00

The point of the epilogue is usually to either provide closure/tie up loose ends or tease at a follow up series. In Line of Duty it ties up some of the character endings we wouldn't otherwise see.

PuddingsAreMyJam · 11/03/2019 16:01

Never watched the bodyguard, but do love the actress, amazing

Oh so you know Keeley Hawes is an actress then? What did you think she was doing in LoD then?

TwitterQueen1 · 11/03/2019 16:01

Oh c'mon OP. Lighten up. I'm wondering if perhaps English isn't your first language and there are some elements of crime drama that perhaps you haven't understood.
There is a lot of gritty (and sometimes unpleasant) crime drama on tv right now and my Cbeebies comment was not meant to say it was 'your level', but that it was very clearly pretend....

I think you need to work o your sense of humour though, which appears to be completely lacking..

SciFiRules · 11/03/2019 16:02

This thread explains the referendum result better than any political correspondent could!

PuddingsAreMyJam · 11/03/2019 16:02

Oh, my bad. I see that you thought LOD was a fictionalised version of true events.

DoneLikeAKipper · 11/03/2019 16:04

Please don’t ever watch Game of Thrones OP. I fear you may give yourself a small breakdown.

ForOldLandsEye · 11/03/2019 16:05

This thread explains the referendum result better than any political correspondent could!

Brilliant! Exactly what I was thinking.

Smotheroffive · 11/03/2019 16:08

No, not what you said. I didn't believe it was based on anything whilst I watched it.

I do keep saying this, but somehow pp are not understanding (thats not due to deliberate misleading, ironically, I do keep stating I watched it as a work of fiction).

I will leave you all to carry on the fictionalising. 😂😂😂😂😂😂. How ironic 😂😂😂😂

OP posts:
Nicknacky · 11/03/2019 16:10

WHAT IS IT YOU FOUND SO TRAUMATISING, HORRIFIC, UPSETTING AND SHOCKING?!

Shouting because I have asked and you still haven’t answered.

timberwolf79 · 11/03/2019 16:11

Bless you, OP, you're like the people who went running around New York screaming about alien invasions when Orson Welles' War of the Worlds went out on the radio in 1938.

bless you, it was H.G Wells x

Janedoughnut · 11/03/2019 16:12

Thank you to those who have genuinely engaged

Are you sure that they're genuine though OP. They might only be pretending!

DoneLikeAKipper · 11/03/2019 16:12

I will leave you all to carry on the fictionalising.

Actually, I think that should be left to experts. Like the people who wrote Line of Duty.

PuddingsAreMyJam · 11/03/2019 16:12

So, what are you saying? Did you watch it as fiction right up until the end credits rolled and then because it told what happened to the characters after the series ended that you thought it must've been based on true events?

Did it not occur to you to google it in which case it would've told you it was a work fiction?

WHAT IS IT YOU FOUND SO TRAUMATISING, HORRIFIC, UPSETTING AND SHOCKING?!

Also this ^^

DoneLikeAKipper · 11/03/2019 16:14

@timberwolf79, bless you - it was the reading by Orson Wells that caused the confusion! Blessings all around Grin.

Tomtontom · 11/03/2019 16:14

Wouldn't it be nice if this was Brexit though?

We thought it might be real but, no, it's all a work of fiction and we can go back to normality now!

User24689 · 11/03/2019 16:14

I can feel your frustration OP and I'm sorry you are getting a hard time but I genuinely don't understand your posts.

I don't understand what you are calling a 'thing'. The updates at the end are like an epilogue in a book. Even fictional characters can have a 'what happened next' update because the entire point of fiction is for people to 'suspend disbelief' and invest in them as though they were real. I have seen line of duty and this isn't unique to it.

And the article saying the 'real ac-12' is surely a story giving a comparison of the show to real people doing similar jobs. Due to the success of the show, people will be intrigued about this line of police work. I haven't read the article but headline makes sense to me that way and I certainly wouldn't have blinked at it or thought it meant it was all real.

You're getting cross but it's clear based on replies that the consensus here is confusion because your posts don't make sense.

Janedoughnut · 11/03/2019 16:16

Timberwolf79 - Orson Welles directed and narrated it.

Skittlesss · 11/03/2019 16:17

OP, do you mean that you know that the TV show is fiction... but you are shocked that the things that happen in it are loosely based on things that do happen in real life?

ChristineBaskets · 11/03/2019 16:19

Aw OP you must be feeling like a right 'nana so I won't rub it in even though this thread has made me chuckle.

People thought Ghostwatch was a genuine documentary, others ran screaming from cinemas when they saw a moving image for the first time (a train coming towards them), millions believed what was written on a bus. We are all capable of falling for stuff (though not me obv) and that you don't watch much tv explains why you did in this instance.

Just laugh it off, and I'm sure you'll bear it in mind when watching tv in future. Especially if you watch Fargo which explicitly states that it is based on real events when it is actually not at all - now that I did find quite wrong.

SciFiRules · 11/03/2019 16:20

I'm rather hoping that Brexit will turn out to be a work of fiction... the leave campaign certainly was!

User24689 · 11/03/2019 16:20

skittless that would make sense as an explanation but OP repeatedly refers to a 'trick'

timberwolf79 · 11/03/2019 16:21

@timberwolf79, bless you - it was the reading by Orson Wells that caused the confusion! Blessings all around .

I stand corrected... third time I have ever posted and I got over excited...

Another one commending this post as 100% spot on!
