To think that you don't walk into a vegan cafe with a Mcdonald's burger in your hand

Had a lovely lunch yesterday at a bar that sells outstandingly good vegan food (I'm not vegan, but the food is insanely good).

As we were walking out DD asked if I had seen a family walk in with one of the children holding a Mcdonald's burger in their hand.

a) It is rude to bring your own food into a café anyway
b) It is breathtakingly rude to bring meat into a vegan café!

This place sells the most amazing chips, so they could easily have bought this child the chips instead of a McDonald's.

I don't care how picky your child is, you never take hot, smelly food bought elsewhere into another cafe. It's irrelevant whether it's a meat burger or a vegan one.

After the actions of vegans against meat eaters it's actually fair play.
I know of someone who took her son with her into a vegan festival and he was eating a sausage roll and no one batted an eyelid.
As to vegans demonstrating outside restaurants and going into restaurants protesting yes it does happen. They protested outside Jamie Oliver's(Then got all hypocritical when it shut down, we all know they were secretly glad) and at one of his restaurants in London they they went one step further by shoving iPad's under the noses of children eating spaghetti bolognese with vivisection videos on so I've heard. If they'd done that to kids in a restaurant I was in the iPad's would be shoved so far up their a*** they'd need a very long charging cable.
So in my opinion it is BU regarding that they brought their own food but tame considering what vegans do to meat eaters so on the other point NBU.

Nah I don’t think this is bad and the kid could of been a headache and only wanted a burger

squeekums · 12/03/2019 08:00

No issue for me
If I was with a group who wanted to eat at a place I didn't like the food of, I'd still go to hang with friends but bring my choice of food.
I'd let dd do the same if we were going to say a Chinese place and she won't eat anything there so maccas it is.
A vegan place? I'm not shocked the kid wanted maccas
Hell I've let dd take a happy meal to KFC cos KFC nuggets ain't as good as maccas according to her

Lots of places wouldn’t allow this though.

Plus it’s rude.

It is rude to bring your own food to a cafe / restaurant. If everyone did it, they’d have full tables but not be making any money, which is not right. Plus, part of the fun of eating out is everyone in the same place ordering from their menu. It’s all part of the vibe of the place.

Taking McNuggets to KFC actually isn’t so bad imo. You don’t go to KFC for the atmosphere; it’s purely a stuff-it-in-my-face-to-fill-my-belly type place. A vegan bar though? It’s clearly meant to be a bit more than that.

If you want to take a little picnic to a park or whatever that’s one thing, but it’s actually pretty unfair taking up a place at a table, (or allowing your child to), in someone’s place of business and then not buying their food.

It's rude to bring outside food to eat inside a cafe. However I do think a little leniency can be given in the case of children. I have a child with an allergy and sometimes it can be difficult to accommodate her needs and the rest of the family. However I have never taken outside food into a cafe to eat there, I would just take the food away. With regards to the vegan aspect, I don't think that would be an issue with a child if the rest of the family were eating vegan.

greenpop21 · 13/03/2019 16:20

Often food establishments display signs saying that only food purchased from that cafe or restaurant can be consumed there anyway.

squeekums · 13/03/2019 22:26

Lots of places wouldn’t allow this though

They gotta know first or at least speak to me in the few minutes I'm eating
Chocolate bar fits in my bag, maccas is quick to eat as I don't usually get more than a cheeseburger meal, a big latte. In a group of people, I'd go unnoticed

Tinkerbell456 · 13/03/2019 22:30

Totally agree Tapas, rude because you don’t take food into a cafe and you especially don’t very obviously take meat into a vegan cafe. Not vegan, by the way, but enjoy the odd vegan dish.
