To ask who is the longest serving contributor to Mumsnet

I've lurked for ages but only fairly recently plucked up the courage to contribute. Noticed the Podcast thread about how it all started and just wondered who is the longest serving member and how many of the first contributors are still here? Might be difficult to find out I guess or maybe not, I'm no expert on these matters!

Ooh I wonder- has anyone ever made a real life friend from Mumsnet?

Yes, two people who I’m still friends with years later. Good people.

I’ve been here on and off since 2009, I think it was just after moldies which I never really got... seemed a bit odd to me all that. I’m rarely here nowadays. My DC are in the ‘easy’ patch between 5-12, but I’m sure I’ll be back here during the teen years more often 😉

I mostly hang about Reddit now.

Wakk · 09/03/2019 17:03

16 years here. I NC every few weeks now, seen too many things that have made me wary to keep the same one.

I had all my posting history deleted too.

I always read BlondeShaves by the way! Always makes me smile when I realise I've got it wrong again

Thefrenchconnection1 · 09/03/2019 17:25

I found this forum during my divorce. That was 2008.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/03/2019 17:37

@wakk 😂😂😂😂

Pinkyyy · 09/03/2019 18:05

I'm clearly showing my newness here- but what are/were the moldies?

Tw1nsetAndPearls · 09/03/2019 18:12

Moldies meant a late Christmas dinner!

Basically as I understand it a group of Mners set up a secret chat site and MN royalty at the time decided who was and was not worthy of an invite. They would then descend on mass to justify themselves for the next five years!

Pinkyyy · 09/03/2019 18:18

Thank you @Tw1nsetAndPearls, it seems that this site has changed an awful lot. I wonder what the criteria were for becoming part of the 'MN royalty' 😂

Mmmmbrekkie · 09/03/2019 18:19

I was petrified of some of the MN Royalty when I first joined. And ridiculously pleased when they let me into the gang.

Really hoping this was tongue in cheek!

Mmmmbrekkie · 09/03/2019 18:21

* I wonder what the criteria were for becoming part of the 'MN royalty' *

Having loads of free time (or prioritising mumsnetting over actually living) and / or
Not having particularly fulfilling RL and therefore throwing yourself in to an anonymous only forum

Sparklingbrook · 09/03/2019 18:25

I never noticed any royalty, maybe some people that posted a lot before everyone started namechanging every hour.

I always thought it was said as a sly dig.

BellaVita · 09/03/2019 18:32

I actually spoke to CVQ on the phone once 🙄.

LittleLapin was my first mumsnet Secret Santa’s gift receiver.

Thelieswetelltoourselves · 09/03/2019 18:36

Always read it as blondeshaves too!

BIWI · 09/03/2019 18:50

You're right @Sparklingbrook - 'MN Royalty' was never a compliment and always an insult!

Thankfully it's something you hear much less of these days.

TheDrsDocMartens · 09/03/2019 19:23

2002, lurked before that but 2002 was when I got my first computer/internet.

MutantDisco · 09/03/2019 19:34

7 years, had to name change after Glinner retweeted me talking about my profession Blush

I miss the crew who were on here when I first joined, I nearly found out about the secret place because I was RL friends with a famous MNer. Ah well.

MutantDisco · 09/03/2019 19:37

AnyFucker has posted today, telling someone to LTB, but ruder Grin

GiantKitten · 09/03/2019 19:47

@expatinscotland still posts as that Smile

StephsCaddy · 09/03/2019 19:51

Omg. Haven’t thought about Littlelapin for years - wonder what she’s up to now.

Anniegetyourgun · 09/03/2019 19:54

I just found my first ever post on MN: December 2006, so relative newcomer really Grin I remember it well: a friend had advised me to check out the Relationship threads because I was all of a bother and bewilderment about the imminent breakdown of my marriage. Pretty much the first thread I read I felt impelled to register so I could post "WHY ARE YOU IRONING HIS SHIRTS??!!" Oh, and expatinscotland and Attila the Meerkat were on the same thread.

Eve · 09/03/2019 20:00

Was never considered interesting enough to be a moldie!

1st post was about 10 week old DS not sleeping, he’s 20 this year.

They must make me a member since 1999.

When we had membership numbers mine was 800 and something.

alwaysncxx · 09/03/2019 20:01

What's a moldie?

Eve · 09/03/2019 20:03

From twinsetandpearls post above

Basically as I understand it a group of Mners set up a secret chat site and MN royalty at the time decided who was and was not worthy of an invite. They would then descend on mass to justify themselves for the next five years

ethelfleda · 09/03/2019 20:05

Only since 2015 for me so I’m still a newbie! Never name changed - apart from for one thread and changed it straight back.

My first experience of mn was awful. I had just found out I was pregnant and needed to find some solidarity as it was too soon to tell people irl. The women on the thread I was on were really horrible to me! I remember being really really upset at the time.

grumiosmum · 09/03/2019 20:05

I also have a 4-digit user number starting with 5.

DS is 20 now, been around since he was little, but can't remember exactly how long.

Name change quite often, probably not as often as I should.

Never been in the cool gang.

alwaysncxx · 09/03/2019 20:06

I've only been here for a few months so I'm really really new Grin
