To ask if anyone is actually comfy in a bra?

I am 54 and, having had no kids, have reasonably “perky” boobs. Hey, being childless has to have a little upside, ok. Average cup size. I hate wearing a bra! Obviously need to if inappropriate not to, but find most bras hellishly uncomfortable really. Do I have any ummm..support for this view?

Generally happy in a bra, don't get the end of day relief thing. Had a brief phase a while back where one way annoying, but I think it was mainly fit.

ChanklyBore · 06/03/2019 23:50

I don’t have big boobs - 32D so not large. Reasonably perky. I can go braless. But I don’t want to, I feel more comfortable in a bra. I wear a bralette to sleep in. Don’t like them flopping around and I sleep on my belly.

So I’m obviously comfortable in a bra

Tinkerbell456 · 06/03/2019 23:52

Maybe I will go off and get measured. I have a few ( 3) that are really comfy, but the rest 😗

I have discovered that it's underwired bras that I don't like. Am around a 36D. M&s do lots of wireless bras now, or I buy bralettes from Primark. Only a fiver.

GoTitansGo · 06/03/2019 23:54

It's all about the bralette. Life changing (even started a thread on this the other day)

bridgetreilly · 06/03/2019 23:55

I started wearing non-wired bras a couple of years ago and have never looked back. C-cup.

Lonecatwithkitten · 06/03/2019 23:58

When I wore a 34DD they were horrid things, now I am properly measured and in a 30F I don't notice my bra. I do notice the better smaller shape.

AdoraBell · 06/03/2019 23:59

Perfectly comfortable.

Tinkerbell456 · 07/03/2019 00:00

Hey Bridgetreilly. I do tend to go underwire. Maybe that’s my issue?

I'm large, something like 32GG, and I'm very comfy in my bras. I get measured by a traditional lady who looks at them and knows how big they are by looking. It's very embarrassing but necessary.

JellySlice · 07/03/2019 00:08

Until C cup size I was equally comfortable in a well-fitting bra or braless. Unless doing sport. Absolutely had to have one for sport, to reduce painful floppage. For sport I preferred a firm support old lady style, like the Playtex Cross Your Heart. Nothing budged in one of those! I could poke the umpire's eye out if I stood too close, though. But I virtually never wore underwires.

Since dc, I am never less than a D. Underwired bra definitely necessary for comfort. Too much saggage. A well-fitting bra is not uncomfortable.

Since menopause the saggage is getting extreme. Bravissimo lady explained that breasts often lose volume at the top, while retaining it lower down. So cup size remains the same across the boob but there's less to fill the top of the cup. Bras are definitely uncomfortable now.

I have finally bought myself some deeply unflattering soft bras to wear under baggy thick tops - when I'm at home and don't expect to bounce around much.

LMDC · 07/03/2019 00:10

Please do not get measured at your average department store, you need a proper lingerie store that does not add four inches on to your band measurement (aka use an ancient and ineffective measuring technique).

Take a look at Boob or Bust, use their calculator to measure & try a few bras in the starting size they suggest. It is revolutionary. If you have facebook then join the facebook group & you will be a bra expert in no time.

MorganKitten · 07/03/2019 00:10

At an E I like wearing mine and they are comfy

OwlBeThere · 07/03/2019 00:15

I wear a bra at all times. Even coming out of major surgery the first thing I asked fit was my bra 😂😂

aliceelizaloves · 07/03/2019 00:15

Yes, hate them. The first thing I have always down when getting home is take it off. I have switched underwired and padded to sports type/crop top (am small and am now embracing that!) since having children which is far more comfortable.

SunnyTikka · 07/03/2019 00:18

I loathe wearing a bra. I wear a 40C and only wear one for work, it’s the first thing I take off when I walk through the door. In fact sometime I take it off in the car on the way home. When not at work I don’t wear one at all.
I was measured by Bravissimo who are really great but if I wear the bra I got from them it feels like I am in a suit of armour. I used to be measured at M&S but recently Infound a set of two fab underworked bras from Matalan and I will buy a few more.

dreaming174 · 07/03/2019 00:18

The first thing I do when I get home is take my off.

FiddleFaddleDingDong · 07/03/2019 00:19

I often see women talking about that 'feeling of relief when you get in the door and whip your bra off''. Don't get it at all. Bras make my life so much more comfortable. If I'm up and walking about I'm wearing a bra.

Praise be the person who invented the bra.

Tinkerbell456 · 07/03/2019 00:19

Hey buffalo cauliflower. 34B. Although these seem to have a tad of spillage lately. Cup not big enough. I seriously need to re-measured don’t I?

Toddlerteaplease · 07/03/2019 00:19

Yes, much more comfortable than without one. No discomfort at all.

mysteryfairy · 07/03/2019 06:13

I found that switching from Freya to Fantasie has made a huge difference to my comfort level. I always bought Freya because it was widely stocked in my small back size but was always uncomfortable. A Fantasie bra was an impulse purchase in Selfridges sale just because I noticed it was my size and a tenner. It's been a revelation how much more comfortable they are for my shape. I now just buy brand new Fantasie bras off eBay, for old (and possibly lurid) patterns I tend to pay around £10-15.

Fatted · 07/03/2019 06:22

Definitely more comfortable in a bra. I do think anyone who is uncomfortable in one is wearing the wrong size and style. The style has a lot to do with it too. In my opinion anything that looks nice or sexy is going to be uncomfortable. Something with a thick back strap and wide arm straps is best, so the weight is distributed more evenly across the body. I can't even sleep without one on, it's so uncomfortable.

LadyKylieShagworthy · 07/03/2019 06:25

I saw the light a few years ago and ditched the underwired bras. Lounge bras are the best for me.

Butteredghost · 07/03/2019 06:32

Oh gosh I'm the opposite, I wear an underwire bra at all times, even to sleep. I wish I could wear one in the shower.

TapasForTwo · 07/03/2019 06:33

Mine are never uncomfortable. Since the MN bra intervention I am a 32B. I always wear a bra as I look like a boy if I don't Sad

SunnyTikka what dress size are you? And what is your underbust measurement? I would hazard a guess that a 40C is the wrong size.

It sounds like you are wearing the wrong size Tinkerbell456. What are your underbust and overbust measurements?
