To not cook pancakes for breakfast?

My 7 year old was nearly in tears that mum isn't doing pancakes for breakfast on pancake Day. Am I a selfish cow? (They can have them tomorrow night....tonight is parents evening, swimming, and fitness class). Unless Dad will cook them for the kids later on.....

Yes what a cruel parent not sacrificing even more sleep to get up and make pancakes for breakfast instead of enjoying them for pudding later with ice cream and chocolate or something, I'm sure your poor daughter will be damaged for life!!!

If life is hectic then give yourself a break and just do it later instead, personally I hate mornings, and for our family it would be much more enjoyable in the evening as they can help make them and put some fancy stuff on them

As someone said it's pancake day not pancake for breakfast day

missmouse101 · 05/03/2019 08:47

Sod that! It's a teatime event with everyone round the table, 2 pans on the go, lots of fillings and time to enjoy it! Never even occurred to me to do them in the morning. Far too busy to do properly.

AmIRightOrAMeringue

It OP isn’t having them at all today. She’s decided that somehow they’re too busy this evening to eat pancakes, despite them presumably having time for some sort of food this evening

Racheyg · 05/03/2019 08:54

No your not. My ds1 was desperate to have pancakes for breakfast. I refused as I have to be at work early. He then said" how about we go out tonight to celebrate. I was like...celebrate what? And he was like pancake day of course!!!

I did offer pancakes tonight but they are not dinner 🤔

Ds2 couldn't care less 😂

PurpleWithRed · 05/03/2019 08:54

I have called Social Services and the police and they are on their way over. Better be tossing that frying pan when they arrive...

Gth1234 · 05/03/2019 08:56

Bit late now. I got a pack of 10 for a quid in Morrisons yesterday. not as nice as home made, but eminently dutiable for breakfast. 30 secs in a microwave.

ceeveebee · 05/03/2019 08:59

Not unreasonable to not do them at breakfast, but you won’t do them tonight either? That seems a bit mean. They take minutes to make, won’t you be eating at all tonight?

HostaFireAndIce · 05/03/2019 09:00

Even if you’re Christian, it doesn’t begin to compare to getting birthday presents a day late.

Well, actually, it does. The whole point of pancake day is that it's a blowout before Lent starts. Having pancakes on Ash Wednesday is really missing the point!

BitchQueen90 · 05/03/2019 09:02

I'm not making pancakes today at all. DS's school is making them for all the children today and I'm actually not that keen on them myself so I'm not bothering.

GerryblewuptheER · 05/03/2019 09:04

I expect in bible times however they didnt have to get to the childminders before 7.30 and sit in traffic for 40 mins or run round the house for last nights homework no one can find.

Gth1234 · 05/03/2019 09:07

If you're having pancakes as a blow out before Easter, then what is your DC giving up for Lent. Tell him he can't have chocolate for a month.

3out · 05/03/2019 09:07

And no parents evening, swimming and fitness class either.

GerryblewuptheER · 05/03/2019 09:15

Still, they all be dead by 16 so least they wont be throwing it in your face at your 90th birthday bash Wink

CharlotteFlax · 05/03/2019 09:18

Who are all these people that are doing pancakes for breakfast?!! It's a teatime treat!

Oblomov19 · 05/03/2019 09:20

Ds2 has ready made pancakes this morning. Easy.

GerryblewuptheER · 05/03/2019 09:21

Dont worry I'll keep an eye out for flames. So far we all good

PeonyTruffle · 05/03/2019 09:22

Limited -

You must be joking. She hasn't scarred her children for life. Get a grip 😂

My neglected child has to wait until dinner tonight for his, I suspect he'll cope.

HostaFireAndIce · 05/03/2019 09:26

I think Limited was indeed joking.

Although they did have to milk the cows at 5am and carry water a mile home from the well while fending off bears with a stick (using the arm that hadn't fallen off from leprosy), so it all evens out, really

Toooldtocareanymore · 05/03/2019 09:28

i'm on the kids side, especially since you knew it was not possible tonight, I got up five minutes earlier and we had them made and eaten in time, I had a pack of the ready made American ones as backup, so some of them went into lunchboxes, and we hare having savoury and sweet ones tonight, my ds was so happy so its pancakes all three meals today..

GerryblewuptheER · 05/03/2019 09:29

Expect thats still quicker than driving 4 miles down the road Grin

Plus you can blame the birds for being late. More believable than 4 iPhone alarms not going off.

SinkGirl · 05/03/2019 09:30

I’ve never had them in the morning and wouldn’t have the energy or time (not sure how people are making pancakes in two minutes honestly, I find them a massive pain in the arse). If my kids wanted pancakes for breakfast I’d buy some in.

SmallFastPenguin · 05/03/2019 09:30

Well its always been a dessert thing here so I wouldn't even think of doing them for breakfast. But YABU to say they should wait for a different day. It is just not the same, they totally taste better on the correct day. Buy some ready made ones by all means but do not try to change the day.

Halo84 · 05/03/2019 09:32

I used to make pancakes and waffles routinely for breakfast when my children were young. I would mix all the dry ingredients at night, and add the wet in the morning. It was no more taxing than any other breakfast. If you make crepe pancakes, they can be prepared the night before.

SinkGirl · 05/03/2019 09:34

It was no more taxing than any other breakfast.

I don’t know, sounds a lot more taxing than putting milk in weetabix for the kids and making myself a coffee 😂
