Nappies flagrantly lie. Using Pampers 4s at the moment, been using those for night previously and Aldi for daytime but aibu to think it's all complete hogwash.?Hmm

Is there a nappy out there that will get my 90th centile for length baby through the night without him waking up wet? 4 month sleep regression and building works not helping, I'm so exhausted I am getting depressed.

I have some bambino miosolo reuseables but due to building works no washing machine but that will change soon, so I'm open to them.

@SoftPlant sorry I meant old enough. He's 4 months they say 5 months min for forward facing so their necks are strong enough.

He's in a 3-6 month mini me multipack baby grow right now and it's the right length for him, but but baggy around the middle. He's not a very chubby baby apart from the cheeks.

I struggle to believe the nappies can't hold the pee. The lid came off my 1 litre water bottle in my bag, it was nearly full, but I randomly had a size 4 pampers nappy at the bottom and it absorbed every drop. (It was HUGE. Quite astonishing.) Bag was bone dry.

I think it's more about the fit/shape/tightness and how wiggly a sleeper the baby is.

WildWinter · 04/03/2019 11:07

If the nappies aren't leaking, it sounds like it's not really to do with the nappies being full, and he's probably waking up for milk/comfort. I'm, sorry, I know it's so tough having broken sleep Flowers

I have to say, 3-6 month clothes size sounds a bit small to be in 4s nappies. My little one is in 9-12 clothes in 4s. Especially if 3-6month clothes are baggy round his middle, the nappies might be a bit baggy. But I suppose if they're not leaking, it's neither here nor there.

Re: the carrier, does he hold his own head up well? I know the recommendations are there for a reason, but if he has strong head and neck control, he might be alright to go front facing in the carrier now. My LO loves napping in the carrier. I hope you find something that helps you soon.

kenandbarbie · 04/03/2019 11:17

Might be obvious but have you made sure his Willy is poking down towards the more absorbent bit of the nappy?

TwoRoundabouts · 04/03/2019 11:25

My daughter was out of the vast majority of her 3-6 month cloths by 4.5 months and at the same time needed size 4 nappies. It's likely the nappies you gave are too big at the waist and/or legs. I suggest you try lots of supermarket brands to see if you can get a better fit.

ChariotsofFish · 04/03/2019 13:05

A size 4 nappy reaches my two year-old’s belly button. I know she’s short, but surely the same size on a four month old must be reaching their chests?!

KindergartenKop · 04/03/2019 13:11

Put an extra nappy on over the top BACKWARDS!

goose1964 · 04/03/2019 13:12

DGS is a slightly taller, heavier 2 year old and he's in size 4 and us a world record peeer, he leaks about an hour after getting up from a usually dry nappy otherwise he is mainly dry. The nappies have to be too big.

STOPSCRATCHINGTHECRADLECAP · 04/03/2019 13:45

All my babies have been in size 5 nappies before 6 months.
They are all 98th percentile babies.

It happens.

OP, if it's not leaking then the nappy isn't the problem.
Nothing is the problem. Your son is weeing a lot and needs changing. He will still wee a lot no matter what nappy you put on him.

I feel your pain though, I have the same thing each night and each night I wish I didn't have the down nappy change. I do find he settles much better after wards though.

STOPSCRATCHINGTHECRADLECAP · 04/03/2019 13:47

Not even slightly.
If you have a baby with very chubby thighs like mine all did then the nappies length is taken by going around the thigh so there's little nappy left to be reaching up the chest.

I've never had a baby who's nappy has reached over their belly button. Always to the belly button. And as I said in the previous post, mine are always in size 5's before 6 months.
I make huge fat babies.

ChampooPapi · 04/03/2019 14:12

If he's in 3-6 month clothing size 4 is way to big! My daughter was in 6-9 month vests at that age and they were not baggy, she's a proper bruiser. Yet was in size three nappies untill 6 months.

I really am confused about this, I honestly think he's just being a baby and going through a phase of waking and is wearing nappies that are far too big. They really do go all night, yes they are massive in the morning but babies don't usually care about this

ChampooPapi · 04/03/2019 14:15

I really thought centile is about weight anyway? If he's slim he must actually be on a much lower centile regardless of his height.

mommybear1 · 04/03/2019 14:29

It's already been said I think but my DS is also a tall baby and we have found going a size up at night works fine eg he wears pampers 6 and we put him in 7 for night never had a leak doing it this way.

RLOU30 · 04/03/2019 14:33

Morrison’s works

MissB83 · 04/03/2019 14:33

Always used Lidl for daytime and Pampers Babydry for night, I don't change DS across 12 hours (I stopped changing him through the night when he was about 5/6 months old). You might need a 4+ if he does lots of wees though.

pandarific · 04/03/2019 15:52

Definitely up to his bellybutton, not his chest! They are a bit baggy in the middle but it's not as if the tabs meet in the middle - that's done up tight as they can be without squeezing him.

I think maybe just the pampers are a peculiar fit on him - that and he's more sensitive to feeling soggy than perhaps other babies and tends to cry when he's feeling wet.

I'll try Sainsbury's as a few people with long skinny babies have said their own brand fit that baby shape well.

And yes, I am tucking the willy. Wink

Stick with pampers and get the next size up. DD has been in a bigger size than her weight recommends since early on. And get the + ones for nighttime as they are more absorbent. PJs that are a bit tighter like leggings style bottoms hold the nappy in place and stop it from rucking up and leaking

littlemisscynical · 04/03/2019 16:09

Size up nappy and size up vest

Mumof1DS · 04/03/2019 16:41

Little lamb reusables. With an extra bamboo booster - does my 13 month old a treat, yet he outwees disposables.

STOPSCRATCHINGTHECRADLECAP · 04/03/2019 19:45

But you're saying the nappies dont Leak?

I'm
Actually confused what the problem is

BertieBotts · 04/03/2019 21:18

DS2 goes through phases of this to be fair. He'll usually sleep through a wet nappy no issue but if he wakes up just a little bit more it's like he noticed the feeling of the full nappy and is upset by it. We used to call it his princess and the pea phase. As said pampers premium protection have ab extra layer which is meant to be good. You could also try a fleece liner (designed for cloth) on top of the disposable nappy as this wicks away moisture. But I think it was the heavy bulky feeling he didn't like. Anyway it was a phase and he grew out of it.

BTW you can face them forwards in a sling when they have good head control, it's not a specific age thing.

BertieBotts · 04/03/2019 21:18

Yes, she's saying the nappy doesn't leak but her baby wants changing at night when he's only wet.

MyNewBearTotoro · 04/03/2019 21:26

So he’s not leaking but he’s waking up because he doesn’t like the heavy, bulky feeling of a wet nappy?

If that’s the case changing brands isn’t likely to work - there won’t be a brand which is able to absorb the wee and somehow magic it away so that the nappy is dry. Any wet nappy will feel full if your baby fills it with wee so if he hates the feel of a full nappy I don’t see a solution other than either changing him in the night or leaving him uncomfortable in a wet nappy and hoping after a few nights he gets used to it.

BertieBotts · 04/03/2019 21:28

Well I doubt she knows exactly what it is he doesn't like about the full nappy, it could be a feeling of wetness instead.

pandarific · 04/03/2019 21:53

The problem is that if I don't change him overnight he seems to wake up again and again every hour flailing uncomfortably. I suspect that my baby dislikes being in a wet soggy nappy as he will get grumbly and upset during the day if he's wet and cheers up once changed, so I am thinking that's why.

So I was looking for a nappy which would better wick away moisture / somehow hold it better so I don't have to also change him when I feed him at night and totally wake him up, because it's very difficult to get him back down again and I am very very very tired. I don't know if it will work, or even if my theory is right, because he is a baby and who the hell knows - but I can try.
