12 hours of dryness my arse

Nappies flagrantly lie. Using Pampers 4s at the moment, been using those for night previously and Aldi for daytime but aibu to think it's all complete hogwash.?Hmm

Is there a nappy out there that will get my 90th centile for length baby through the night without him waking up wet? 4 month sleep regression and building works not helping, I'm so exhausted I am getting depressed.

I have some bambino miosolo reuseables but due to building works no washing machine but that will change soon, so I'm open to them.

I wouldn't be tinkering with reusables if you leak with disposables - after a fair bit of experimenting we gave up with reusables overnight, they all leaked.

hothotsoup · 04/03/2019 09:23

Definitely try the 4+ I always have to use the + ones for night time or get leakage. And my ds has been in size 4 since about 3 months old so not sure why it seems unusual for people.

Littlebelina · 04/03/2019 09:26

Sorry, realised you said 90th for length not weight. He must be quite long and skinny then? We had a similar issue with DS when he was a newborn. I still think size 4 sounds large for his weight. If you have reusuables would the outer nappy over a disposable help hold it in place?

needsleepzzz · 04/03/2019 09:26

We use the 4+ Aldi ones on our 2yr old and get 12hrs out of them, they do seem to be more absorbent than 4's, which we use during the day

pandarific · 04/03/2019 09:41

He's not leaking out of nappies, he's doing his uncomfortable flailing thing at first wake up from between 1-3 after going to bed at 8, and when I check his nappy it's all puffed up with wee, so wet, so I change him.

The tabs on the 3s were going towards the sides of the nappy and only lasting 2 hours in the day, so def not that size. The 4s tabs aren't meeting in the middle, so I don't think too big either. Maybe he's just flailing for milk, idk. I am very tired.

He’s probably waking because he’s hungry then. He’s still pretty small to be going through the night. Is he taking a big feed at that time?

Idonotlikeyoudonaldtrump · 04/03/2019 09:54

The pyjama pants that are for bigger children?

Owwlie · 04/03/2019 09:55

I preferred Sainsburys little ones nappies. DD is really tall and skinny (just over 90th for height and 25th for weight). Found the sainsburys ones best as they have a sort of elasticated waist, which was good for a tall but skinny baby. We only get a leaky nappy when she needs to size up.

I don't think a 4 month old (even a tall one) would be in size 4/4+ nappies? As I say DDs tall and is only in size 5+ now at 18 months. Maybe try a size down? So 3+ and try a different brand (they pretty much all promise 12 hours of dryness). A size 4 is probably too big on the waist and the legs, which will just leave everywhere.

I'd go for a 3+ and see how that works. And make sure if he's wearing a vest it's not too tight around the nappy.

sar302 · 04/03/2019 09:56

If he's a he, make sure everything is pointing down! And also have you tried pull up size 4s instead of the traditional wrap tab ones? My little boy sits around the 85th and is 14months old now but the same height as many 16-17 month olds. he's still in size 4s - but the pull up, 12 hr ones. I think they definitely have more stretch and come up much higher.

ChariotsofFish · 04/03/2019 09:56

I think it’s unlikely he’s waking because of wee if the nappy hasn’t leaked. He’s in the same size nappy as my two year-old!

Idonotlikeyoudonaldtrump · 04/03/2019 09:56

Oh sorry, I missed his age. If he’s not leaking through, he’s ok. Probably hungry. He really is little to go all night without milk, I didn’t night wean until they were 1.

Idonotlikeyoudonaldtrump · 04/03/2019 09:57

They definitely need milk during the night until 6 months at the very earliest

ChampooPapi · 04/03/2019 10:00

So they aren't leaking? He's only 4 months so Its definitely normal to do a change and feed around 1am, especially after sleeping from 8pm.

Still can't understand size 4, sorry but my baby is 98th on length too but they would be too big at 4 months for sure

Littlebelina · 04/03/2019 10:01

It may be food, it might be just the tail end of sleep regression or it could be the nappy. What happens if you leave him in it? It could be that he is doing a wee and it's not wicking away as quickly and making him uncomfortable but he might be alright after a while? If not try a 4+. I can't remember what DS was in at that age (too long ago) but it was at least a 3, if not 4 but he was over 18lb (looked it up yesterday to see how he compared to dd). He used to flood his nappy as a newborn and we moved up sizes quickly.

Lack of sleep is hard. Dd has decided 5am is a good time to start the day (usually with one wake up). But it's not and it's not for her either as she gets very grotty as she is tired

Littlebelina · 04/03/2019 10:03

DS did sleep through at 4months without a feed or nappy change but he was the exception not the norm amongst his peer group

LadyLaSnack · 04/03/2019 10:04

Echoing what others are saying about size, but also are you paying attention to penis placement? Grin

Mother of two boys here.

A last check inside that everything is pointing downwards towards the absorbent bit curbed the number of nighttime changes in this house.

GinGeum · 04/03/2019 10:19

We use reusable Easy Peasy Bumbles for overnight. The fleece lining makes him feel dry even when the nappy is soaked. Tots Bots Bamboozles are also good if you put a Staydry or fleece liner in them.

outpinked · 04/03/2019 10:22

I use reusables but bought a pack of Aldi and a pack of pampers for the newborn haze. Was shocked at how bad pampers actually are nowadays, newborn DS was always soaked after an hour and they made him sore too. Aldi ones were fantastic in comparison.

Now he’s 4 months old and we’re onto reusables full time. Bambino Mio are definitely the best but you do need boosters for night time. I use the charcoal boosters and he most often wakes up completely dry.

pandarific · 04/03/2019 10:25

I'm not trying to make him go all night without milk, I'm trying to get an absorbent enough nappy that I don't have to totally wake him up to change him, because it is a fecking nightmare getting him back down again. He goes to sleep on me, then every time I slowly, slowly put him down the eyes fly wide open again.

Five times this happened last night and it took 2 hours. From 3-5, and I haven't slept since that wake up. Same problem with napping and he won't deeply sleep in pram and screams hysterically when our in baby carrier facing me, and isn't big enough to face front.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 04/03/2019 10:31

Reusables work for us - but the Bambino miosolos definitely won't, if disposables can't.
Totsbots bamboozles with a hemp liner are amazing for mine - you can email The Nappy Lady for a personalised recommendation, she also has a Nappy Lady second hand group where you can put out a call for second hand nappies or ask for advice

LadyLaSnack · 04/03/2019 10:41

Have you tried experimenting with going all night without a nappy change? If he'll settle after a feed without a change you'll know it's just that he's hungry.

SoftPlant · 04/03/2019 10:51

When you say waking up wet, do you mean his baby grow/vest are damp when he wakes up in the night? Like the nappy has leaked? Or is the nappy just full?

We use size 4 Lidl, Coop, Sainsbury's and Pampers depending what's on offer, and have never had an overnight wee leak.

Also I don't agree that 4 months is necessarily too young to be in 4s, as PP have said. Our DD went into 4s at around 5 months. She is in 12month clothes at 6 months age now. Some people just have big babies!

SoftPlant · 04/03/2019 10:56

Same problem with napping and he won't deeply sleep in pram and screams hysterically when our in baby carrier facing me, and isn't big enough to face front.

See this seems strange to me. Like I said, I have a big baby so understand being in size 4s at four or five months. But not big enough to go front facing in the carrier? What clothes size is baby? Our baby has been able to go front facing since about 3 months old, she was so big. Maybe the nappies are too big (or maybe you just have a different carrier! I don't know).

pandarific · 04/03/2019 10:57

No leak, just the nappy is heavy with wee. He doesn't seem to like sitting in a soggy nappy during the daytime so I gather that's what the flailing is about?

I've tried not changing the nappy but then he seems to go down asleep and then wake up flailing every hour on the hour until the morning, which is miserable. I assume this is the 4 month regression thing, idk. I'm a total misery guts at the moment, not very rational.

Coming on to say the same as @midgwit . My DD is 10 months and in size 3 - I tried size 4's for a few nights and whenever she woke through the night her pyjamas and sleeping bag were wet. Back to size 3s and she's fine
