uk.news.yahoo.com/shamima-begums-husband-made-mistake-144700935.html

Sorry, probs rubbish link, but Shamima Begum's husband would like to return to the Netherlands with his wife and their baby. AIBU to think that the country probably doesnt want the three of them, and that it's a bit late to say he's 'sorry' given that he only surrendered a few weeks ago?

I mean, I can imagine that they'd like a nice quiet domestic life, but this might just be a bit late in the day?

He is a awful creature, there is a name for people like him.
I hope neither of them get what they want, but an adult who thinks its ok to hook up in a pretend marriage with a 15 year old, needs locking up.

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 03/03/2019 19:06

One of the other girls died in a bombing and the whereabouts of the other is unknown.

If/when they are returned to the uk the British tax payer will have to keep them for life as I don’t see anyone wanting to employ them. She will probably breed a little tribe of would be Jihadi ready for when the next bunch of Islamic nutters surface.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 03/03/2019 19:06

Ah. Did the other two steal passports as well then? What a ringing endorsement of our airport security that you can leave the country on a passport that’s not yours.

Presumably they look alike? Not unheard of, for sisters to closely resemble each other. Especially with a 2 year age difference.

Shamima Begum, 15, used the passport of her 17-year-old sister Aklima to leave the UK on Tuesday. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-31581739

Not much has been said about the other two girls she ran off with. Wonder what became of them?

One of them is reported killed in an air strike in 2016. She was planning to escape at the time. The other was supposedly still alive about a month ago, as was the first girl who left the year before the three travelled out together, and who supposedly encouraged them to go.

The girls stole family jewellery to pay for their flight. At a 2015 Home Affairs Select Committee, then Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bernard Hogan-Howe stated that they would not face criminal charges if they returned to the United Kingdom.[11]

Thanks for the link.

Xenia · 03/03/2019 19:14

I am not too bothered about the fact he married her at 15. In the Uk you can marry at 16 and she did choose to go there specifically to marry and is sexually mature etc so it is not really child abuse in the normal sense and not as if he were 60 or something like that.

However if the girls stole jewellery to fund the trip to ISIS surely that is a crime. If I stole jewellery in the UK I would be prosecuted if I came back here.

ColeHawlins · 03/03/2019 19:14

One apparently died in bombing. (Not confirmed but her contact with her family broke off at the time of the raid, so pretty sure.)

The other has been out of contact for months and might well be dead too.

"The Dutch have already said IF he returns, he'll be charged and put in prison for terrorism offences"

I thought he'd already been tried (in absentia) for his part in a plot to shoot up a theme park? He goes back, it's straight to jail for his (6 year?) sentence. Further charges might follow, I suppose.

But if he can reach the outside world, then the Dutch would have to let him home.

Unless of course he has a birth or other qualification for a different nationality

Only if their families want to press charges ?

Puzzledandpissedoff · 03/03/2019 19:26

From the article: "he had little involvement in the terrorist group's activities in Syria and had fought only for "a short period of time"

So that's okay then Hmm

It was only a matter of time before he crawled out of the woodwork too, but I just hope the Dutch are able to keep him well away from them

yolofish · 03/03/2019 19:27

It's just so very complicated, and I dont understand how either of them can expect to just 'come home' (to whichever country) after expressing no remorse, and having stayed with IS til the bitter end. If I was in their position I'd have tried to scuttle out when the picture started to look really gloomy and been as placating as I could be to whichever country I thought might take me in. But then I wouldnt have been in that position in the first place, finding beheadings a bit distasteful 'n all, so I'm probably coming at it all from the wrong position to start with.

successer one of them was reportedly killed by a bomb not sure about the other.

NCforthis2019 · 03/03/2019 19:29

Yeah - sorry we joined and killed loads of people, you one, we made a mistake and all that. Please can we come back. You know - sorry.

What a bunch of fucking idiots.

PlainSpeakingStraightTalking · 03/03/2019 19:32

Nope, not her father. One of the other girls. Please see above link. The myth it was Shamimas father has been circulating on FB by right wingers for a couple of weeks.

In March 2015, footage was circulated of Abase Hussen, father of Amira Abase, on a 2012 rally led by Islamist preacher Anjem Choudary against the film Innocence of Muslims. The Metropolitan Police examined the footage but said that it was unlikely that offences had been committed.[9] Hussen said in April that he feels ashamed of his involvement in the rally, as he did not know who had organised it.[10]

We are in a weird paradox where what is considered to be the relatively 'mainstream' left has a million times more hatred for Tommy Robinson than Shamima Begum.

I mean when you get idiots like sakar baiting with tweets like this:

Ive also highlighted the russian troll just to show whats at play here.

Its funny that "he only did a little fighting" is considered a thing considering what they was up to over there.

Sympathy of the press!! which papers exactly?

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 03/03/2019 19:47

The family have alwaysdrnied that they stole enough jewellery to fund the trip saying only a few low value items were taken that were more of a sentimental value.

^This and the Catholic school boy wearing a MAGA cap (about the same age as Shamima) who smirked at a man in America. Apparently his actions are far worse than joining a genocidal, racist, terrorist cult which rapes children and throws gays off buildings Hmm. No sympathetic opinion piece in The Guardian defending him...

I have understanding how a 15 yo girl who just lost her mother to breast cancer might fall into the internet and be groomed. My concern is how to prevent it happening again.

On the other hand, a nearly 40yo racist jail bird football hooligan fraudster, I have little time for. The irony being he's a 2nd gen immigrant himself. Perhaps he could be deported 'back home' ? (

Uptheapplesandpears · 03/03/2019 19:51

Isn't he a Bangladeshi duel citizen by marriage hence couldn't the Dutch renounce citizenship too?

I doubt he is. It's not even certain she is, but even if she is, you don't just get citizenship of a country just by marrying someone who holds it and neither of you ever living there. It's not even very common to be able to apply for citizenship purely on the basis that your spouse holds it, let alone for it to happen automatically.

Begum's Mother was interviewed several times about her leaving. What made you think she was dead?

Justanotherlurker · 03/03/2019 19:57

the Catholic school boy wearing a MAGA cap

That's defaulted into "starting a conversation" issue now that the law suits are flying and with trying to defend/brush off the black Israelites comments and the full video being released.

It is pure IDPOL oppression stack at play, again if you are to look at America look at the Jussie Smollett situation and initial outrage and op-eds etc.
