AIBU to think that if the police had back the powers to stop and search anyone ,and to arrest any persons with a knife ,our country would be a lot safer..
I know it's not quite as simple as that ,as we need more officers on the street to do so ,and more prisons to house people caught with a knife .giving them a lengthy Sentence as well.
But would it not be at least a start? And if it saved one person from dying it would be worth it..
Plus if you have nothing to hide, you won't mind the police stopping you ,as you will understand they are just doing their job..

TwoRoundabouts to clarify my understanding of community is pretty much people that all live on/ around the same estate, because that’s how it was when I grew up in that kind of area

Are there any statistics available in relation to the success rate of stop and search?
I’m in favour of it but I acknowledge that I’m of the demographic least likely to every get stopped and searched.

Someone else might be along to give more up to date figures

But one example of the statistics I have seen:
2016/7 - where nearly 33,000 people were stopped and searched on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon and out of those searches approx 7,000 resulted in an arrest for actually having a weapon.

Now I know many people will say those successful searches were a 'win' as it prevented the weapon being used and I would agree that preventing a crime is the action we should be seeking rather than having to solve one, but... I still have to look at the fact that over 25,000 people were stopped and searched without it leading to an arrest...
And as we know black people are eight times more likely to be stopped and searched that is a hell of a lot of wrong stop and searches and ultimately bad feeling and mistrust to cause.

Happy for those statistics to be corrected though as they are nearly a couple of years old now.

Stop and search does nothing but lets the police target people based on their opinion which is 9/10 wrong.
The police do not need more powers they need less and there needs to be sacking if they are caught doing anything out of line

The police are the biggest gang in the uk

Yep, that’s exactly the kind of attitude we need to stop these kids being killed
