To think that my friend has lied to me for money?

A month ago, my friend decided that it'd be a good idea for us two to go on an overseas trip in April for "old time's sake" (we were very close during our uni years). I agreed, and sent £500 to her bank account to cover for my share of the lodging (payment was all supposed to be done online).

Fast forward to today, trip is cancelled since she "doesn't feel like going anymore". Okay, no problem. Asked her to transfer me the money, and she can't because she's "only got cash at the moment" and she wondered if I could "wait till Friday".

AIBU to be suspicious about this? If she was planning to book everything as per our agreement, why would she even withdraw the money in the first place? I don't want to sound like the paranoid/untrusting friend so haven't said anything to her beyond an "Oh, okay thanks".

OP posts:

oh FFS, I came on here hoping for an update - one that said friend had paid the money back and all is forgiven.

Dalamane · 10/03/2019 16:07

I would guess that OP got her money back as promised and felt she had blown the whole thing out of proportion. Not necessarily so, it's a horrid feeling when you think you've been hoodwinked.

crispysausagerolls · 10/03/2019 18:22

Come on it OP got her money back she could at least come and tell us though

Kenworthington · 10/03/2019 18:37

Oh god I saw this and thought there had been an update. Ops mate was a cf. I hope she has her money back ✌🏼

Mummyto2munchkins · 10/03/2019 19:08

48 hours and waiting!

I'm thinking CF friend may have seen this and got annoyed hense the lack of response!

We need to know OP what happened?

TheRealKimmySchmidt63 · 10/03/2019 19:45

Like a film that ends badly isn't it?

Motoko · 10/03/2019 20:14

More like someone's torn the last chapter out of a book, but you didn't notice it before you'd read all the rest, and you realise you wasted all that time.

Frokoko · 10/03/2019 20:30

Update OP??

Ellie56 · 11/03/2019 00:04

@AppleCrisps did you get your money back?

willyougobacktobed · 11/03/2019 00:08

Dying for an update too Blush

MovingThisYearDefinitely · 11/03/2019 00:35

WTAF? Please don't post & not update. Very uncool. Hmm

SparkiePolastri · 11/03/2019 03:30

The OP can do what she likes.

Clearly she has the money back, and there's nothing to see here, people.

Janedoughnut · 11/03/2019 08:04

I disagree. I think she hasn't got her money bad but hasn't done anything about it so is embarrassed to update.

Could be wrong though!

Insecure123 · 11/03/2019 08:25

or maybe she just has a life outwith mumsnet and will come back on to update in her own time? Smile

PreseaCombatir · 11/03/2019 09:25

People are actually chastising OP for not coming back?
Wtf lol

stacktherocks · 11/03/2019 12:07

WTAF? Please don't post & not update. Very uncool. hmm

Yeah, OP can do what she likes of course but it’s pretty rude/bad form to post something for advice, get pages and pages of it, and then not let people know the outcome. Or maybe rude is a bit strong, it’s bad form/very discourteous.

She might still come back but I don’t think anyone’s wrong for being a bit miffed if she never does, even though it’s a risk you know you’re taking when you get invested into a thread, that you might not ever find out the ending.

TinselAndKnickers · 11/03/2019 12:20

Just posting again to piss everyone off thinking there's an update Grin

MrsJDornan · 11/03/2019 12:25

@TinselAndKnickers GrinGrinGrin

FilledSoda · 11/03/2019 12:25

Cf friend has spun a tall tale and op doesn't want to admit to letting her away with it .

stacktherocks · 11/03/2019 13:06

FilledSoda that’s my guess.

The friend has probably spun some kind of tale and OP is so desperate to get the cash back she feels unable to say ‘come off it CF, I want it back right now’ for fear of not getting it back at all, so she’s probably rolled over a bit and agreed to instalments or something.

Either way I think if she’d got the full amount back right away there’d be no need to avoid updating the thread she knows people are invested in. But if friend has pulled a fast one she might be embarrassed to admit.

Bluetrews25 · 11/03/2019 14:20

We will never know if the cash got returned, cheque got cancelled, what was in the safe, where the chocolate bar or ironing board went.
Personally, I think CF has got all of them.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 11/03/2019 15:38

Do you think she discovered a secret room in her house Bluetrews?

WildfirePonie · 11/03/2019 16:50

And we will never know why/what happened when Boswell walked up the post office steps...

Reluctantme · 11/03/2019 16:59

Oh, Duck! The secret room!!! Didn’t the OP decide to investigate, alone, in the dark. Then never came back to update? (Bites nails)

pinkgloves · 11/03/2019 17:09

Hmmmmm
