I have cheese in my hot cross buns and my dh thinks this is very strange. Aibu?

(I know iambu to be eating hot cross buns at all before Easter....)

Please let me know if you also have cheese so I can prove I'm not a weirdo Grin

No - if cold then literally will spread a little butter on both sides, slap in a slice of extra mature in the middle, et voilà! If toasting will also spread with a little butter first and then add the cheese but I eat it as an open sandwich that way. Honestly, it's really nice and lovely as a lunchtime snack Smile

^ That was for @MiddleClassProblem Smile

AtAmber · 02/03/2019 13:22

Procrastination I will get some maple syrup and try it. That sounds really good thanks.

DameDoom · 02/03/2019 13:28

DH has been experimenting with the hot cross buns. Thursday evening was toasted and topped with banana and horseradish! A surprising combo which he assures me kind of worked.

MiddleClassProblem · 02/03/2019 13:46

Cheers!

The Philadelphia with strawberries in it is delicious. Sadly have never seen in the UK.

Have been hoovering HCBs for a few weeks now. Picked up a lovely pack yesterday in Sainsburys, carried them home leaving a trail of anticipatory dribble behind me only to find they are chocolate and caramel. I will eat them however as I don’t like waste but be more careful in future.

Pinkcat231 · 02/03/2019 14:17

@DameDoom Mine too! He put pizza toppings on them the other day Hmm don’t try it, it was terrible!!

muchprefersummer · 02/03/2019 14:17

Cheese on Hot cross buns is lush, as is cheese with malt loaf, fruit bread, fruit cake and Christmas cake! Mmmmmm! Smile

AguerosAngel · 02/03/2019 14:19

Cheese on HCB’s is lovely! Has to be a crumbly Lancashire or Cheshire and not melted either Grin

Lululemonade · 02/03/2019 14:43

My old boss used to have sausages in his HXB Confused

Eliza9917 · 02/03/2019 15:19

Cheese in hcb are lovely! Same as in digestives!

Cheese is also nice with malt loaf too.

Duchessgummybuns · 02/03/2019 15:36

Bacon in hot cross buns is the tits. I’ve been told I’m a savage for thinking so.

Igavebirthtoabanana · 02/03/2019 16:35

Cheese on HCB sounds very reasonable.

I tell you what is also good. Tiny sliver of blue cheese on gingerbread biscuit. Oh yes it is.

motherheroic · 02/03/2019 16:49

Don't see the issue with slicing it in half, slathering it with butter and throwing some thick cut cheese in there.

I only have it plain if I'm greedy and can't be bothered to wait.

newtlover · 02/03/2019 17:01

hmmm my first thought was that cheese + HCB is wrong, but then it can work with fruitcake (if Wensleydale) so maybe worth a go
I can't abide all the messed around HCBs (chocolate and the like) they just aren't HCBs
BUT, may I recommend cheese on marmalade on toast, it really is fantastic

happymummy12345 · 02/03/2019 17:03

The only way for me is butter and strawberry jam. I have them open, one side just butter the other side butter and jam. And I only have them cold, never ever toasted

KarineAimee · 02/03/2019 17:10

I’m another fan of cheese in hot crossed buns. You are not alone OP

Mmmhmmokdear · 02/03/2019 17:22

I've not tried it but I can see how cheese would be nice in an original hot cross bun actually, it's a bit like cheese on original Soreen. Very tasty.
