Lie for ds

Worzilgummidge · 01/03/2019 15:44

Ds went along with a few of his mates today during lunch break from college to book a holiday however they ended up in there ages and ds didn't make his next lesson. He emailed his tutor shortly before lesson was due to say he wasn't well and wouldn't be back and that he had asked me to collect him. His tutor isn't happy and knows he went to book a holiday and is saying she is gonna speak to me so now ds is pleading with me to back up his story as he is worried he will get kicked off the course. Would you lie for him.

It's reasonably common ime for groups of teens to go into travel agents to book a holiday. They don't generally want their mum and dad to check it all out for them and they are wary of going completely without advice as they've never done it before.

Op,if your son is so good, why would he get kicked off the course for this one late?

janetforpresident · 01/03/2019 18:02

Why would he get kicked off the course for missing an afternoon?
If attendance is poor schools/colleges would potentially kick students off the course for three reasons that I can think of

  1. to send a clear message than attendance is important to other students 2)to prevent the student from failing which would be in published results data
  2. to make a space for others if there is a waiting list

I doubt very much they would kick him off for one instance of truancy

janet

Yes I know that. That was my point entirely. There is a huge back story.

DroningOn · 01/03/2019 18:06

Can't see how this alone would result in being kicked off

If this is the latest in a long list and being kicked out is likely then no

A lot of teens use our local Thomas cook to book their 6th year holidays. We drum home to them the importance of being fully covered for that first trip abroad without parents. Booking flights/hotel etc separately is ok when you are an experienced traveller with contingency funds, but for a group of teens - travel agent all the way. They like to book together in person so they are all involved and can ask questions etc. Not unusual at all.

SouthernComforts · 01/03/2019 18:13

I always use a travel agent for group holidays. Each person can pay their share directly and one person isn't lumped with a huge card payment. One near me gives individual payment cards to keep track.

Anyway, no I wouldn't lie for him, he's an adult, they could have gone tomorrow.

Wow! If he’s a good student he won’t get kicked off the course (your is son manipulating you to lie for him), he’s a real charmer! Lie or don’t lie but you aren’t doing him any favours because if you don’t let him feel the consequences of his behaviour now, when will you?

BoneyBackJefferson · 01/03/2019 18:57

I am willing to bet that there is a huge backstory that goes all the way through secondary school.

OftenHangry · 01/03/2019 19:00

@BoneyBackJefferson and not his fault. Ever

augustboymummy17 · 01/03/2019 19:47

Has he had any warnings about his attendance if not there is no way they will kick him of he might just get a warning x
