"She is said to find the constant clothes changes (up to five a day if the itinerary includes shooting, tea, and a formal dinner) and the omnipresence of a full household staff rather stressful,"

Now I am quite fond of Kate Middy but AIBU to have snorted very loudly at this sentence?

Oh to have such a stressful life!

but to say there's no downsides and if you're rich and famous you must be happy at all times and never complain is frankly ridiculous.

I never said this. All I'm saying is that every Kate Middleton thread gets one after the other 'I wouldn't want her life' type comments as though Kate had no choice in the matter. She married in knowing what it would entail. Not like her MIL who was truly hoodwinked.

BartonHollow · 01/03/2019 00:59

No Quintella...

Tansplain 😂

IncrediblySadToo · 01/03/2019 01:00

She loves William. She accepted her life would be very, very different. It’s doesnt mean she’s can’t get fed up with aspects of it and frankly changing 5x a day and constantly having people around would make a saint scream surely?!

I’m just glad I turned him down.

Quintella · 01/03/2019 01:01

Oh that person was doing so much tansplaining! Probably still is. She'll be giving conferences shortly on how certain countries are doing funerals All Wrong.

Quintella · 01/03/2019 01:02

And tbh any photo I see of Kate she looks genuinely happy. Not like her counterpart in Monaco...

Iflyaway · 01/03/2019 01:04

She knew what she was signing up for.

Doesn't mean I don't feel for her...

British tabloids are relentless. creep bastards

Iflyaway · 01/03/2019 01:07

Nasty dig.

Is it a competition then? Do you subscribe to Hello Magazine? Confused

Quintella · 01/03/2019 01:15

Oh get over yourself. Anyone who's ever seen a picture of the Monaco princess can see that's not someone who's loving their life. Kate on the other hand, looks like she's perfectly happy, whatever day to day annoyances she may have.

Polarbearflavour · 01/03/2019 01:34

Kate chose that life. 🤷🏻‍♀️

There are far worse lives to lead, she is wealthy, has three lovely children, lots of help at home, will never have to worry about money or childcare. I don’t feel sorry for her.

PyongyangKipperbang · 01/03/2019 02:14

But a PP is right in that its all relative.

To a homeless person, worrying about how to pay the gas bill must be a nice worry to have. To a childless not-through-choice person, worrying about your kid not getting into your first choice school must be a nice worry to have. To the person who's mum passed away when they were young, having a mum to argue with must be a nice worry to have.

Does that mean that the people with the worries can worry less, knowing that they are privileged by others standards? Of course not. Its all relative.

I wouldn't mind changing 5 times a day as long as I wasnt doing the laundry!

Thesnobbymiddleclassone · 01/03/2019 02:49

It must be odd to have no privacy at all even in you're own home. I can't imagine how that feels.

We all see it from the outside, that she has all of this luxury but forget that it comes at a price.

Seahorseshoe · 01/03/2019 03:18

I wouldn't want to be a Royal, or even famous. It would be a really strange/kind of cool, thing to have given birth to a future King though.

ColeHawlins · 01/03/2019 03:27

I really, really doubt it's a reference to her own homes. Why would she force herself to change five times a day? Grin

I'm sure it's a reference to Casa Queenie at Christmas. Which is famously formal. Edwardian formal. Diana hated it too.

I imagine that at K&P and Anhelm (??) Hall, W & K are as low key and lightly staffed as they can manage. Not leasts because she's recreating her own childhood setup as much as she can.

snitzelvoncrumb · 01/03/2019 03:39

I imagine her life would be stressful at times, imagine having a story written about you taking your child to a toilet at a pub! As much as she chose it, it's probably hard to imagine what it would actually be like. I was a live in nanny and I couldn't think of anything worse than having live in staff. You really see and hear everything that goes on.

Hazlenutpie · 01/03/2019 03:42

I think she does very well! I wouldn’t want to walk in her shoes for anything.

RoseGoldEagle · 01/03/2019 03:43

She’s being interviewed, what’s she supposed to say ‘every second of every day is wonderful and my life is just anazing’? I don’t think it’s tone deaf of Vanity Fair to allow her to mention aspects of her role she finds a bit stressful, it suggests that readers are SO envious of her life that they just couldn’t cope with hearing her complain about a single thing. I wouldn’t read an article like that because it doesn’t really interest me, but if you ARE reading it then surely you want to read something honest and interesting?

user1457017537 · 01/03/2019 04:05

Well William and Kate spend weeks out of the limelight and then emerge for an official appearance. They also have several massive estates that are completely private, all with bolt holes for more privacy. I don’t feel sorry for them at all.

SemperIdem · 01/03/2019 05:57

The thought of having live in staff sounds horrendous to me. So I can see how she might find aspects of her life stressful.

We all “choose” our lives to a great extent, that doesn’t mean we can’t find aspects of it stressful.

Bagpuss5 · 01/03/2019 06:05

Ditto
She chose that life though?yes I wouldn't want the press following me around and photographing my every move but she had a fairly privileged life anyway I'm sure she knew what marrying the future king would entail

She chose the life like many of us chose ours but that doesn't stop us wishing some bits were different.

But why miss a chance to criticize a royal.

ChessieFL · 01/03/2019 06:13

Agree with others - she may have chosen it but doesn’t mean she can’t find it stressful. Police officers choose that job - does that mean they’re never allowed to say they find bits of it stressful?

And whoever said they have private estates - yes it’s private from the public but they will never be alone in their house. There will always be (at least) protection officers somewhere in the building, no matter how lightly staffed they are otherwise. Personally I would find that stressful, knowing that never again would I ever be able to have my house completely to myself (and yes I know she has large houses but even so).

chaoscategorised · 01/03/2019 06:15

Honestly the bit of this I find most offensive is referring to her as a not-commonly-used, sounds-like-P-Diddy shortening of her maiden name (which she doesn't use because she's married), which weirdly implies you went to school with her or something (and the word 'middy' makes me do a a whole body cringe)!.. but yeah, I'd hate aspects of her life too. She's allowed - happiness isn't all or nothing.

PineapplePower · 01/03/2019 06:15

the press perpetually reduce her to a brood mare and clothes horse

She reduces herself to that status. If she doesn’t or can’t use the platform she has effectively, it’s on her. She wanted the job badly, she spent ten years with man who treated her with some disrespect, and she still married him.

Also, as far as jobs go, it’s really not that bad. How many days does she go through five wardrobe changes? Clearly, the few days she actually goes out to work, she has one outfit and goes home within an hour or two. The tours would be a bit more full on, but those are few and far between.
