Obviously having a (completely) lazy day including several cups of coffee and a good nose around MN when I noticed "TIA" at the end of a post. Not the first time I have noticed this, and I thought "Cor - that Tia gets around a bit - turning into a bit of a prolific poster. It's a bit odd she keeps putting her name at the bottom of her posts tho....."

And then the penny dropped.

TIA
or for you lovely ladies who are just as daft as I am...
Thanks In Advance Grin

Long time ago I moved to Hertfordshire. Kept an eye on local newspapers for secondhand furniture. I remember thinking "that Ricky fair sells a lot of stuff"..... two years before I realised there's a place called Rickmansworth ....Grin

maddiemookins16mum · 26/02/2019 18:29

I was on The McParents page on Fakebook a while ago, that bloody Tia, she was posting pictures of her pregnancy test results and asking what we all thought several times a day 😳😳😳. I remember thinking she must spend a bleedin fortune until I realised months later it meant thanks in advance 🤗🤗

Reaa · 26/02/2019 18:31

I can't do the blank posts I also can't type correctly

calsovip · 26/02/2019 18:39

I too thought STBXH was stupid bastard ex husband, and I also have to 'translate' it each time!

I used to think it stood for "Stupid Bloody Ex Husband"! Grin

Vicky1990 · 26/02/2019 18:55

What does bump mean?.
TIA.

calsovip · 26/02/2019 19:01

What does bump mean?

It's what people type when they want to push their thread to the top of the list in the hopes of getting more replies.

Cattenberg · 26/02/2019 19:01

Took me a while to get to grips with them all, but for some reason EBF in my head was 'emergency breast fed' instead of 'exclusively breast fed'.
I know babies get pretty annoyed when they're hungry but I was a bit 🤪 at all these DS and DDs being emergency breast fed all the time.......

For ages I thought it was “expressed breast fed” and was surprised that so many MNers expressed all their milk and bottle fed it to their babies.

smilingontheinside · 26/02/2019 19:06

Gone for good, stick that in your pipe and smoke it, how dyu like them apples Wink nagaicl Grin

BagofTeeth · 26/02/2019 19:17

The first time I saw someone say they'd "gone NC" I honestly thought they meant they'd been to North Carolina. Blush

NC does take me a second at times still as I've seen it for both no contact and name change. It's usually obvious in context but some wordings still throw me.

GregoryPeckingDuck · 26/02/2019 19:19

This also happened to me. I even saw it on fb once and considered messaging the woman to tell her she’d outed herself Blush

Vicky1990 · 26/02/2019 19:19

Calsovip.
Many thanks .

sighrollseyes · 26/02/2019 19:22

TIA to me means Transient Ischaemic Attack (aka angina).

AzureApps · 26/02/2019 19:25

I thought that LOL meant lots of love....

Smuuuurfette · 26/02/2019 19:28

I’ve just bookmarked the acronyms list for future use Blush

leftear · 26/02/2019 19:29

When I first joined I thought that there were a lot of children born with an Atrial Septal Defect until I realised that it meant Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Bluetrews25 · 26/02/2019 19:44

Transient Ischaemic Attack is a mini stroke that affects the brain, and is not the same as angina which affects the heart!
FYI.

FindPrimeLorca · 26/02/2019 19:46

I first came across TIA on MN years ago, and at the time there were a couple of slightly odd posters who would sign their posts so for the first couple of times yes I genuinely thought it was the poster’s signature. After a few times it dawned on me that it must by an acronym, but you’re not born knowing this stuff.

Vixxxy · 26/02/2019 19:51

STBXH I always read as stupid ex husband, even though I now know what it means, and have for a while. I guess to some, its kind of the same thing.

clareken260 · 26/02/2019 19:52

For quite a while I thought BRB meant Bath Room Break.

Unfinishedkitchen · 26/02/2019 19:54

I’m soooo glad someone explained what HTH means. I thought it meant ‘hand to hips’ as in the poster had made a statement and was pretty cross.

Vixxxy · 26/02/2019 19:54

I spent an embarrassing amount of time also, thinking NT/ND...meant 'nice...?' couldn't work out the second part at all and a lot of threads seemed utter gobbledegook. Blush

Witchtower · 26/02/2019 19:57

I always thought CF meant Cunt Face. Took me a while to realise it was Cheeky Fucker.
Also when lol first came about I honestly remember it being used as lots of love!

StoatofDisarray · 26/02/2019 19:59

I thought HTH meant Hard to Hear!

Gizmo79 · 26/02/2019 20:03

I thought hth meant happy to help, not too different I guess!

MitziK · 26/02/2019 20:04

I'm still not convinced by the politeness of Cheeky Fucker. When I started reading, in the context of the posts being made about exes, I thought it probably meant Cunt Face.

I'm still in two minds about this sometimes.
