Obviously having a (completely) lazy day including several cups of coffee and a good nose around MN when I noticed "TIA" at the end of a post. Not the first time I have noticed this, and I thought "Cor - that Tia gets around a bit - turning into a bit of a prolific poster. It's a bit odd she keeps putting her name at the bottom of her posts tho....."

And then the penny dropped.

TIA
or for you lovely ladies who are just as daft as I am...
Thanks In Advance Grin

Yes to wondering why so many GPs were invading family meal times.
Also thought there were an inordinate number of PAs dossing on the job.
In journalism or any kind of writing really, you're supposed to spell out what the acronym is in the first instance and then use it freely thereafter.
I also in my head think Dear sis, dear brother, dear mum. But MN tells me it's Darling sis, darling brother etc.
A lot of posts are pretty unintelligible when everything is abbreviated.
Particularly posts about medical issues.

I have a PIMH. Went to the OOH today. GP came with me.
??

I have a pain in my hole. Went to the Out of hours (I think?). My GP is pretty hands on with the hole treatment shit.

@ariadne you can just click the little arrow at the top and watch thread, you don't need to post on it at all to follow.

I did think for a while STBXH was stupid bastard ex husband, it's still the first thing that pops into my head when I see it, even though I know what it really means now

SurgeHopper · 26/02/2019 01:09

I used BIL in a real life conversion today. BIL, she said Hmm

Fuckin busted, so busted

Graphista · 26/02/2019 01:46

I'm someone who's been chatting online since dial up was new so I'm used to the abbreviations, but it amuses me that so many think they're an mn thing. No they've been around for yonks HTH 😂

Name changes - mnhq conspicuously missing from all your directions on this is the fact you have to enter your password to save the name change

Gone4good they're not mn specific they're common usage all over the Internet, most people don't have a problem using

UC used in many places not just internet usually means Universal Credit.

It was recently suggested on another thread that a way to find out if someone in real life is an mner is to say

Aibu

And they would of course reply

Yabu or yanbu

My wicked step mother always signs Christmas and birthday cards
'LOL'.....she thinks it means lots of love

It does & it did for a VERY long time before the internet even existed. People used to write ‘ha ha’ not LOL, if something was funny.

Brilliantidiot · 26/02/2019 01:56

Took me a while to get to grips with them all, but for some reason EBF in my head was 'emergency breast fed' instead of 'exclusively breast fed'.
I know babies get pretty annoyed when they're hungry but I was a bit 🤪 at all these DS and DDs being emergency breast fed all the time.......

🤦

OpiesOldLady · 26/02/2019 02:21

I've been away from MN for a while and since returning I keep seeing CF everywhere. Finally tonight the penny has finally dropped CF = Cheeky Fucker.

I hope...

IncrediblySadToo · 26/02/2019 02:25

Opies when I saw you post I had to check the date of the thread! Nice to see you again.

BitOfFun · 26/02/2019 03:12

Not MN-related, but prompted by this thread, I spent an embarrassing amount of time assuming that horses or donkeys were crucial to transporting American military supplies through dense jungle, due to the copious references to 'Vietnam vets" in the history books. Yes, the history books I had to read for my American Studies degree...

Bingcankissmyass · 26/02/2019 17:32

It took me a while to realise that CF wasn't cunty fuck Blush

EstherOnions · 26/02/2019 17:38

When karaoke started becoming a thing in the UK, my dad expressed his amazement at how prolific what he thought was a Japanese band called Karaoke were. "Everywhere I go, there's adverts saying they're playing tonight," he memorably said at the time.

AhFeck · 26/02/2019 17:42

I thought it was stupid twat bastard ex husband not soon to be ex husband. IMO I think it is a lot more fitting in most cases

MamaAffrika · 26/02/2019 17:50

I thought this too for ages! CF is way better as cunt fuck!

Housemum · 26/02/2019 17:52

I work in a hospital with several CF patients - I know it’s cystic fibrosis but I still think Cheeky Fecker in my head!

CheesecakeAddict · 26/02/2019 17:52

It still escapes me why yy is yes

Tere700 · 26/02/2019 17:56

Took me ages to work out CF meant Cheeky Fu#er! Thought people were posting about C#t Faces

Jimdandy · 26/02/2019 18:00

I thought the same about TIA.

What’s TAAT?

Asta19 · 26/02/2019 18:03

"Thread about a thread" and not allowed!
I didn't know that for ages

Haven't seen much of FOTTFSOFATFOSM lately...

WanderingDaffodil · 26/02/2019 18:10

I work in the NHS. I always read TIA first as transient ischemic attack, often called a mini-stroke.

I too thought STBXH was stupid bastard ex husband, and I also have to 'translate' it each time!

Bluntness100 · 26/02/2019 18:12

I initially thought HTH meant hit the highway and the op was being told to bugger off. 🤣

Imabadmummy · 26/02/2019 18:18

Someone at work used to send me emails with the letter PFA, Regards, Name.
Thought it was odd but they included all the docs i needed so would just reply & say thanks.

Took me forever to realise it means Please Find Attched 😂
