To ask why my teen keeps setting off the supermarket alarm?

Can no longer take my teen in the supermarket - any supermarket - where there is an alarm system on the door as he sets it off! We have tried various combinations - no phone, phone, no belt, belt, money in his pockets, no money in his pockets etc but the alarm goes off 9/10. We have suffered the embarrassment of searches and my teen is fed up.

Any ideas?

Had this with my DS when he was a baby! Turned out it was a label in his coat, an extra leaf where the washing instructions were.

StoneofDestiny · 24/02/2019 16:26

Had it happen to me - a small security sticker left on a pair of sunglasses - never set the alarm off in any shop apart from Zara (I didn't buy them there). These stickers can be on Calvin Klein boxers too!

WhatchaMaCalllit · 24/02/2019 16:27

Check clothing around the area where the washing instructions are as there may be a security tag (long narrow one) stitched into what looks like a tag. You can cut it off if there is one.

CanILeavenowplease · 24/02/2019 16:27

He has nothing designer....can’t see anything. Will cut out some labels and see if that helps!

This happens to me, it's my insulin pump (I'm guessing your ds doesn't have one).

foxychox · 24/02/2019 16:28

I've had this with a tag on a bag too, but also a pedometer (pre Fitbit!) and just randomly. My DDs are mortified when it happens!

CanILeavenowplease · 24/02/2019 16:29

No. Nothing medical.

Simples! he's got magic electromagnetical powers!, enjoy the fun it can cause;)

CanILeavenowplease · 24/02/2019 16:30

Ooh....think we might have it...odd, thicker than usual tag in a favourite T-shirt.

Does he carry a wallet? I had this before and it was a tag hidden very efficiently in my purse. A security guard had come across this before and emptied my wallet out for me, got his torch and looked in every slight opening and found the tag, it wasn't easily visible otherwise.

SoupDragon · 24/02/2019 16:32

I used to do this when I had a magnetic key ring.

SoupDragon · 24/02/2019 16:33

Can no longer take my teen in the supermarket - any supermarket

Are you certain this isn't deliberate?

lisasimpsonssaxophone · 24/02/2019 16:35

I used to get this with an A-Z I carried around with me (showing my age!) that had a security strip stuck to the inside!

QueenOfCatan · 24/02/2019 16:35

Check his wallet. I had one of the flat tags in my purse once which always set off alarms in shops, it was tucked under a card slot really awkwardly so it wasn't at all obvious that it was there. The purse had a second one in which I removed after buying it so I didn't even suspect it for months!

Sparklfairy · 24/02/2019 16:36

This happened to me for about a month. I had bought some moisturiser or something from boots and put it in my handbag rather than pay 5p for a carrier. Left it in there sealed with the security tag on and it set off every alarm and I had no idea why!

Artykitty666 · 24/02/2019 16:36

My mum was awful for this. No idea why. A disproportionate number of automatic doors refuse to open for me, on the other hand.

foxessocks · 24/02/2019 16:37

This happened to me recently and I couldn't figure it out for ages. Turns out there was a security tag thing in the lining of my bag so I had to really hunt for it to get it out!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 24/02/2019 16:42

Security strip stuck in a book? Just my teen who always has a book?

Fowles94 · 24/02/2019 16:44

Don't worry happens to me a lot too, for no reason whatsoever.

Halloumimuffin · 24/02/2019 16:47

This always happens to me with hard to remove sticker barcodes on lipsticks/eyeliner

LongWalkShortPlank · 24/02/2019 16:49

I once bought a coat that had a tuck awah hood, that I'd never used. I kept setting off alarms but didn't know why. Then one day I used the hood and there was the tag!

LongWalkShortPlank · 24/02/2019 16:49

Away*

clicketyclick66 · 24/02/2019 16:50

OP initially I thought your ds was deliberately setting off alarms Grin
Has he braces? My dd1 always sets off airport alarms and we believe it's her braces - will find out for certain in the Summer after her braces are removed!

Coldandfrosty · 24/02/2019 16:51

This kept happening because of my foundation bottle

livingthegoodlife · 24/02/2019 16:53

Has he got a new wallet? I had this problem when my new purse had a tiny microchip in it. Found it a couple of months later....
