I’ve always been a bit of a worrier, and often don’t feel fully at ease with the world. But now, because of the internet i’ve got myself into a state of panic. I’m reading all sorts of conspiracy theories, things i come across accidentally, about stuff i really shouldn’t be reading about.

My biggest worry at the moment is the “new world order” and the plans they apparently have in store for us all. I just feel very despondent and scared for my children and the world they’ll have to live in when i’m no longer here. Please can anyone reassure me that it won’t be that bad.

Really, Sparklesocks? I've never heard anyone on MN make up weird shit. Can you give an example?

savanna22 · 23/02/2019 22:50

Micom yes i read agenda 21 and it all sounded reasonable, but then i got all the conspiracy theories about it that made me panic, as i often tend to do, gullible fool that i am.

Hidden global groups have allegedly been trying to take over the world for many decades.

If it is true, I’ve concluded they just aren’t very good at it, or are so good at it I haven’t noticed and either way there’s nothing to worry about.

Sparklesocks · 23/02/2019 22:54

Gettingnowhere well threads get zapped everyday because they’re from previously banned posters, or things don’t ring true, have you not seen them? There’s one troll who regularly posts about PE knickers for example.

The Alex Jones types make money off crazy lies and conspiracy theories.
If this was true, why would the Alex Jones gobby conspiracy types have this insider knowledge? Over journalists, researchers etc?
Its not that the "new world order" is silencing them, its that its total bullshit!

Gettingnowhere · 23/02/2019 22:58

Come to think of it, I have noticed people talking about "Thighland" or something like that. Sounded odd. Not sure if it involved PE knickers

NotTheFordType · 23/02/2019 23:00

OP have a read of "Them" by Jon Ronson.

Most conspiracy theories are by nature far right, anti semitic and xenophobic.

Imagine you were living in the 1930s... would you really want to be saying to all the neighbourhood Freu "Oh yes I know it sounds nuts but I went to one of Hitler's speeches last night and now I'm really shitting myself, he was so convincing"

(Yeah I know - Godwin's law! But it was the obvious comparison)

peskypooches · 23/02/2019 23:01

Really - don't believe everything you read, haven't you heard of fake news...?

I came across this the other day - would be funny if it wasn't scary that so many people may believe it.......:

So you now think you know what staying in the EU means but still want to stay in??
If you actually and really know all of these terms of the Lisbon treaty, signed on our behalf without our approval, and knowing this you still believe we should remain, I feel sorry for your love of country.
“What will actually happen if we stay in the EU” is a question no remainer will ever answer but here it is warts and all.
Check it out if you wish ——>>
1: The UK along with all existing members of the EU lose their abstention veto in 2020 as laid down in the Lisbon Treaty when the system changes to that of majority acceptance with no abstentions or veto’s being allowed.
2: All member nations will become states of the new federal nation of the EU by 2022 as clearly laid out in the Lisbon treaty with no exceptions or veto’s.
3: All member states must adopt the Euro by 2022 and any new member state must do so within 2 years of joining the EU as laid down in the Lisbon treaty.
4: The London stock exchange will move to Frankfurt in 2020 and be integrated into the EU stock exchange resulting in a loss of 200,000 plus jobs in the UK because of the relocation. (This has already been pre-agreed and is only on a holding pattern due to the Brexit negotiations, which if Brexit does happen, the move is fully cancelled - but if not and the UK remains a member it’s full steam ahead for the move.)
5: The EU Parliament and ECJ become supreme over all legislative bodies of the UK.
6: The UK will adopt 100% of whatever the EU Parliament and ECJ lays down without any means of abstention or veto, negating the need for the UK to have the Lords or even the Commons as we know it today.
7: The UK will NOT be able to make its own trade deals.
8: The UK will NOT be able to set its own trade tariffs.
9 The UK will NOT be able to set its own trade quotas.
10: The UK loses control of its fishing rights
11: The UK loses control of its oil and gas rights
12: The UK loses control of its borders and enters the Schengen region by 2022 - as clearly laid down in the Lisbon treaty
13: The UK loses control of its planning legislation
14: The UK loses control of its armed forces including its nuclear deterrent
15: The UK loses full control of its taxation policy
16: The UK loses the ability to create its own laws and to implement them
17: The UK loses its standing in the Commonwealths
18: The UK loses control of any provinces or affiliated nations e.g.: Falklands, Cayman Islands, Gibraltar etc
19: The UK loses control of its judicial system
20: The UK loses control of its international policy
21: The UK loses full control of its national policy
22: The UK loses its right to call itself a nation in its own right.
23: The UK loses control of its space exploration program
24: The UK loses control of its Aviation and Sea lane jurisdiction
25: The UK loses its rebate in 2020 as laid down in the Lisbon treaty
26: The UK’s contribution to the EU is set to increase by an average of 1.2bn pa and by 2.3bn pa by 2020
This is the future that the youths of today think we stole from them?
They should be on their knees thanking us for saving them from being turned into Orwellian automatons!

WTF...???

SaturdayNext · 23/02/2019 23:01

Of course the whole new world order/agenda 21 thing is absolute bollocks. Forget about it and tell yourself not to be so gullible next time.

peskypooches · 23/02/2019 23:03

Btw I'm not commenting on people's views to leave or remain - just on the unbelievable inventions contained in that piece!

AhhhHereItGoes · 23/02/2019 23:04

The only people I know for sure who are trying to take over the world is Pinky and the Brain.

IncrediblySadToo · 23/02/2019 23:05

Find something you’re interested in & read about that. It really doesn’t matter if it’s baking, crochet, rugby or dancing cats. Stop reading utter shite by people with less brain matter than a goldfish.

pineapplebryanbrown · 23/02/2019 23:05

You can always come to my lovely clinic OP no one is told off and everyone is welcome. I'm in chat.

Gettingnowhere · 23/02/2019 23:07

Thigh Do we need to wear PE knickers?

pineapplebryanbrown · 23/02/2019 23:07

Advice clinic that is, no stethoscopes or PE knickers Hmm

MidnightMystery · 23/02/2019 23:08

I believe it exists, once you dig so far it's hard to forget about it.

pineapplebryanbrown · 23/02/2019 23:09

Getting you can if you really want to. No poo trolls though!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 23/02/2019 23:24

There are pandas and kittens all over the Internet. Don't waste your time on conspiracy nonsense.

SunshineP · 23/02/2019 23:30

Oh you need to read a really good book and relax. Step away from the internet. Or read some real history and think about things which really happened.
Alex Jones is a diet pill selling loon. It's all BS.
You should really consider how useless we are being over BREXIT. Could anyone in this country organise a conspiracy? Corbyn is always on his allotment, the Tories are too busy infighting and destroying poor people. Trump is mad and useless. He thought his dopey silver spoon preppy moronic son in law would bring peace to the middle East. Jeff Bexos is busy sending pictures of his cock to his new squeeze. The world is being run by idiots.
You are obviously a sensitive soul who needs to have a little self awareness and look after yourself. Have a bath, read a book and just don't worry. X

MmaMakutsi · 23/02/2019 23:31

New World Order my arse!!

Who are these people then and what exactly do they have in mind?
So much pish!!

Deadbudgie · 23/02/2019 23:34

The only conspiracy theory I think has truth in it is the assassination of jfk. But think this is widely accepted as a cover up.

There’s lots going on we don’t know about and for good reason

Just keep calm and carry on

Smotheroffive · 23/02/2019 23:36

Getting you are taking the piss. Just dont.

Smotheroffive · 23/02/2019 23:39

Sorry OP. These things can really get a grip when you're feeling anxious, and that's all it is...keep to the paths! Don't stray off into unknown territory, there is loads of lovely stuff around, amazing pictures, funny stories ...and relaxation techniques, yoga and that funny speak that helps you sleep!

Enjoy Smile

savanna22 · 24/02/2019 00:07

One thing i do know, there are far more lovely people in this world than bad and i take consolation from that. Im feeling much better now after reading these down to earth posts, it’s what i needed. Smile

Well as far as the wealthy controlling the world goes, we know wealth inequality is increasing. According to a 2018 House of Commons report, if the current trend continues, by 2030 the top 1% will hold 64% of the world's wealth.

We know that global corporations are becoming increasingly powerful while being increasingly successful at evading taxes (see the Paradise Papers investigation for example, as well as a plethora of other reporting from the mainstream media documenting this.)

We also know that Artificial Intelligence is likely to make significant numbers of jobs redundant in the near future with no guarentee that these can all be replaced (according to a report by Mckinsey Global Institute, for example, by 2030 up to a third of US jobs could be eliminated by robots and AI.)

So ignoring Alex Jones and his alien lizards, there's plenty of cause for legitimate concern about the future and about the increasing transfer of wealth and power into the hands of a global elite. Concerns that are being reported on by mainstream media, not merely by extremist basement dwellers on Youtube.

Lastly as far as conspiracy theories go, just because something sounds like a conspiracy theory doesn't mean it isn't true. For a historical example, check out the verified facts about Project MKUltra. Or for a present day example, consider the theory being discussed not a million miles away that men are conspiring to infiltrate then take over women's sport by posing as transwomen. (I'm not denying that may be true. I'm just suggesting it is, by definition, a conspiracy theory.)
