To want cute first walker shoes?

I know it’s important to buy the right first shoes for my little girl but why must the first walker ones be so ugly.

Anyone know of any pretty ones? She’s a size 4.5 G.

Bobux. Very cute, very good quality and good for their feet. Expensive though.

clarks had some lovely dusky pink patent leather ones when I got them for dd in december? can't say first walker shoes have struck me as particularly ugly?

We have these for my DD, they are seriously cute! We got the navy pair too look nice with tights and dresses

Define 'ugly'!

JaffacakesAreCakesNotBiscuits · 23/02/2019 19:49

Start rite.

Eggomobile · 23/02/2019 19:49

It’s the soles, I don’t understand why they can’t be made to look more subtle.

I went to Clark’s today and they definitely didn’t have cute patent ones. Would you mind sending me the link?

First shoes aren’t worth worrying about - DC’s will scrape the toes from the first day they wear them outside and they will outgrow them as soon as you have paid for them!

MRex · 23/02/2019 19:50

I have a boy and the Clark's Roamer shoes had several that look pretty for a girl, have you tried in there?

pastabest · 23/02/2019 19:52

Unless she is walking unaided outside then I would be tempted not to bother.

BiscuitDrama · 23/02/2019 19:53

I’d try an independent rather than Clark’s.

I don’t know OP, maybe they’re designed to aid walking, rather than to make a child look pretty? Radical I know.

Eggomobile · 23/02/2019 20:00

@RagingWhoreBag bore off!! I’m very aware of the need for the right shoes or I’d be buying any old shoe rather than specifically looking for the right type!

It’s these ones, the soles do come up over the front but once they’re on you can’t really see. They seem to flatten slightly if that makes sense x

What are walker shoes? I've never heard of this term. How do they differ from shoes?

whydobirds · 23/02/2019 20:15

My dd had See Kai Run shoes when she was a toddler. They were very cute with nice flexible soles. seekairun.com/all/first-walker/

Mammaaofxx · 23/02/2019 20:18

Yes my dd also has the pink patent shoes from Clarks!

katmarie · 23/02/2019 20:23

@daisypond first walker shoes tend to have a softer more flexible sole, to give a child more feedback as they learn to walk, but still protect the feet at the same time when outside. The soles tend to come up over the front as well to protect the shoe when baby chooses to crawl, as babies who are just learning to walk tend to switch between crawling and walking until they get the hang of being upright.

Nighttimenope · 23/02/2019 20:23

@snowball28 while I love those shoes, they’re not first walker shoes. They’re from the cruising range- so for indoor use for children who are starting to stand/walking round furniture.
(I spent 3 years fitting shoes in Clark’s kids)

Nighttimenope · 23/02/2019 20:24

@katmarie, in clarks anyway those are pre-walker shoes and not first walkers that you are describing

daisypond · 23/02/2019 20:25

katmarie - OK, thanks for explaining. Mine never had them. Perhaps they're a relatively new thing.

Nighttimenope · 23/02/2019 20:27

Pre-walkers are also not designed to be worn outside

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 23/02/2019 20:32

My 16mo DD has the Crown Jump toddler shoes from Clarks in white which are as cute a pair as I could find. I agree that toddler shoes aren't the prettiest, the soles can look quite clumpy on their little feet. Start-Rite also have some cute patent shoes at the moment with fairly subtle soles.

Purplepricklesalloverhisback · 23/02/2019 20:35

Try and find an independent shoe shop that specialise in children’s shoes. They tend to stock more European brands that are better for the feet and also I found look nicer than I could find in the usual stores.

I tend to favour Bobux for DS as they fit well. He also has some Frodo boots.

snowball28 · 23/02/2019 20:35

@Nighttimenope these were the ones sold to me for outdoor use, maybe they’ve changed them. She does just fine on them outside.
