To want cute first walker shoes?

I know it’s important to buy the right first shoes for my little girl but why must the first walker ones be so ugly.

Anyone know of any pretty ones? She’s a size 4.5 G.

If you're able to spend a bit more Menthe et Grenadine have absolutely gorgeous first walkers starting at size 3

They have quite a few other designs and colours aswell

Sunshinegirl82 · 23/02/2019 20:43

Try Pediped, a bit more pricy but lots of nice options.

redastherose · 23/02/2019 20:48

Both my DD's had lovely little patent first shoes from Clark's.

Nighttimenope · 23/02/2019 20:53

@snowball is your dd walking independently, 10 or more steps? And was she at the time of buying?
It is possible things have changed- it’s been 5 years since I worked there. But it’s also possible someone sold you the wrong type of shoe- either through carelessness or desperation for a sale. They’re very pushy for sales targets in there. I never met mine once (didn’t care to- they used to force us to flog bags and plimsoles and trainers even if the buyer was clear they only. Wanted. School. Shoes) but I was great with product knowledge! And ethical. They make three types of first shoe- crawlers and cruisers have flexible soles and are designed for indoors, while walkers are sturdier and heavier and offer the protection and support required for walking outside. You can wear cruisers outside, but they don’t offer the proper support. If you read the description on the link you posted they’re labelled ‘pre-walkers’. You can take them back if they’ve been sold to you under a false pretence, and definitely complain!

snowball28 · 23/02/2019 20:59

I doubt they were pushing for a sale or desperate, when I went in I specifically said I was looking to buy two to three pairs of shoes for my daughter who’s walking everywhere now, and they asked me if she walked outside or just goes in the pram I said both but she pretty much walks everywhere but long distances.

She’s been walking since 10 months and she’s now 15 months so needs shoes really, they said these were suitable measured her feet and I bought my two favourite colours.

This was before Christmas so I would think fairly up to date knowledge

Ihavealwaysknown · 23/02/2019 21:00

Can I jump on the thread, we have had DD measured up (she’s walking) but she’s only a size 1 does anywhere actually do ‘walkers’ shoes at size 1? (The joys of having a tiny child!)

Nighttimenope · 23/02/2019 21:01

Did you read the description on the link? It says ‘pre-walker.’

RandomMess · 23/02/2019 21:02

My orthopaedic consultant told me to keep them in soft shoes as long as possible such as cruisers or canvas shoes like doodles so much better for them and their feet than traditional shoes.

Mumshappy · 23/02/2019 21:09

Ive always gone to an independent shoes place in my area. They wont sell you proper first shoes until they are walking round quite a bit and never push sales. Much more choice and have all the continental brands which have always fitted my dds better than any from clarks.

Juanbablo · 23/02/2019 21:11

ihavealwaysknown dd was the same. We didn't manage to find any shoes in a 1 but eventually she made it to a size 2 and we got her proper shoes from Startrite.

Mumshappy · 23/02/2019 21:11

Plus they always have gorgeous shoes for little girls. Mine are far too old now but i cant help looking.

snowball28 · 23/02/2019 21:32

@Nighttimenope yes I did read the description, but as I said the actual human I spoke to in the shop recommended me these for my DD. They said they are malleable enough to not impede the development of the foot but supportive enough to aid balance and foot posture whilst walking outside. I don’t really care what category the website has them in to be blunt, I bought these less than three months ago I’m sure the sales assistants expertise is more than up to date just as I’m sure the shoes could have changed in the 5 years since you’ve worked there.

Nighttimenope · 23/02/2019 21:44

@snowball28, that is your prerogative of course, I was just trying to be helpful.

snowball28 · 23/02/2019 21:53

Really? Saying ‘that’s your prerogative’ and ‘did you actually read the description’ isn’t really helpful is it? Especially when the other person hasn’t asked for your unsolicited advice. I do so hate it when people are being arsey as they think they know better yet attempt to dress it up as a nice being helpful act. Just own it 🤷🏼‍♀️

Bugsymalonemumof2 · 23/02/2019 21:54

Pretty shoes on a new walker really don't stay pretty for long. I would just lump it and wait until they are big enough for prettier shoes

LaBelleSausage · 23/02/2019 21:56

@snowball we were given exactly the same advice as you re cruisers in Clarks, much better for the health of developing feet and posture than the more rigid kind.
Apparently in an ideal world babies would confidently walk for two months before they even put shoes on and should spend up to six months in the less structured shoes while they learn and develop

LaBelleSausage · 23/02/2019 21:57

Sorry, should have been @snowball28

BeautyWasTheBeast · 23/02/2019 21:58

We had to have cruiser shoes for my dd's first shoes as her feet were so small they were the only ones to fit. they were Clarks as it's the only shoe shop in town.

Start rite do some lovely shoes too.

Nighttimenope · 23/02/2019 22:37

@snowball no, I wasn’t being arsey. I didn’t say ‘actually’ and the clarks website description of that shoe plus the descriptors of each category of shoe (cruiser vs Walker) are in line with what I said although they don’t reference indoor vs outdoor use. Pointing that out isn’t rude, asking if you’d read it isn’t rude, and it was you who said you were happier with the ‘actual human’ rather than the website information. It’s not rude to say that’s your prerogative! I initially commented as you suggested the shoes to the OP and I noticed they weren’t labelled as walkers and recognised them as cruisers from the shoe design. I thought it fair to point out. I didn’t mean to push unsolicited advice on you, I was just addressing what was raised.
