They’ve taken chocolate and crisps out of the vending machine in work and replaced it with seeds, nuts and 20 sections of the SAME flavour alpen bar (not even chocolate)! To make matters worse they are £1 each! You get a multipack in Tesco for that!

Lighthearted, mostly. We are all adults and if we want a kitkat with our coffee surely we are old enough to decide! Apparently ‘management’ decided. No warnings, I am outraged AngryGrin

I’m glad some people are as outraged as me!

I will have to convince the office staff to set up shop (with a cut of the profits maybe) because sadly no food or drink in our work area. I think that’s what’s annoyed me as well.. the manager in question no doubt sits at a desk with unlimited access to food and drink. We work a physically demanding job and have 10 minute tea break to shove something down our necks, sugar helps on those late shifts!!

The worst thing is being treated like a child when Jamie Oliver took all the chocolate out of our vending machines in school! A choice I have no issue with.

I will stock up on the choc and hand them out to anyone looking peaky from the sugar withdrawals Grin

My son and his friend made a fair amount in y8/9/10 after the school introduced a healthy eating policy. They rented other children’s lockers, set up a shop with direct sales and commissioned orders from the sixth form common room and staff room. Then they found the cheapest sources of chocolate and sweets to sell. Each week had special offers and they persuaded his friends sister to make cakes for them. Profits were reinvested and the business grew steadily until he moved schools.
You could supplement your income in the same way. People are always going to want chocolate.

Leeds2 · 22/02/2019 23:07

Don't worry! They will soon change their ways (well, stock) when no one buys it and it goes beyond its sell by date, losing your company oodles of money.

Jimmers · 23/02/2019 12:13

I love the advert placement...

We’re having to do similar in order to maintain a health standards award we hold. There’s going to be riots.

Boobiliboobiliboo · 23/02/2019 12:20

We have no jurisdiction over tuck shops organised by staff though. 😉

NWQM · 23/02/2019 12:26

Throw a spanner in the works and remind them about the person in your workplace with the nut allergy. You know the one who is so upset at the clear discrimination and risk that they are being put at that they can’t say something themselves 😀

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/02/2019 12:26

Yes but that's the 'choice' that fully grown adults are perfectly capable of making for them selves, Argy. We do not need to be nannied or dictated to. People don't like it.
If I don't to eat like a bloody rabbit and If I want eat 10 Mars bars and 10 bags a crisps a day that is my prerogative. I'm big enough and ugly enough to make that choice.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/02/2019 12:29

YY to Leeds. They're unlikely to make any money anyway. The last thing you want when you're run off your feet all day and needing not wanting a sugar rush is cabbage sandwich and a bag of bloody sunflower seeds
and carrot juice.Hmm.

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/02/2019 12:44

Anonymous letter to management about loss of productivity for menstrating women not given access to chocolate and sugary drinks perhaps with back up “research”. Also include the necessity for type 1 diabetics on diabetic hypo. Then second paragraph about it being exclusionary for people with nut allergy as many have it so severely they can’t be in the same room as an open packet of nuts. Allergisclusionary. Wink

Alternatively tuck shop good plan.

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/02/2019 12:47

Yeah, thats a serious problem - err, not!

Boobiliboobiliboo · 23/02/2019 12:55

There’s never anything in vending machines that I can eat (low carber). It’s about time the balance got addressed (not that low fat-high sugar bars are a radical replacement).

SamStephens · 23/02/2019 12:58

I had something similar happen years ago and I had an empty filing cabinet behind me, started my own snack bar - eventually scored a bar fridge to house soft drinks and all - within 3 months had made well over $2k - our section had a cracker of a Christmas party that year funded by our love of snacks lol! Definitely consider your own snacky enterprise!

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 23/02/2019 12:59

Those utter bastards. A strongly worded email is fully indicated!

Wolfcub · 23/02/2019 13:01

Time for a charity tuck shop OP

Yabbers · 23/02/2019 13:02

They’ll back down when they realise they don’t make any money out of it.

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 23/02/2019 13:02

in my experience, management take out a fixed term contract with these vending machines, we were stuck with rubbish ones for years. Your machines could still be stuffed with rotting Alpen bars well into the zombie apocalypse.. bring in your own secret stash instead.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 23/02/2019 13:03

Alpen bars have just as much sugar and palm oil as chocolate and are on no way a better or a healthier option.

I’ll add that to my email.

CatandtheFiddle · 23/02/2019 13:06

I feel your pain, OP. And actually, I'd say Alpen bars are pretty much junk food masquerading as healthy. But look at the sugar & fat content, and overall calories. People delude themselves about these "health" bars - much better to go for straightforward milk chocolate

Boobiliboobiliboo · 23/02/2019 13:06

much better to go for straightforward milk chocolate

Even better to go for high quality dark chocolate.

Mummyoflittledragon · 23/02/2019 13:11

I agree Alpen is junk food. How about a mix of dark and milk choc?

Boobiliboobiliboo · 23/02/2019 13:13

I dream of a cheese, nuts and dark chocolate vending machine.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 23/02/2019 13:15

Oh I don't disagree with you, boobili.
It should cut both ways. There should be a fair choice for those who enjoy eating healthly. However what gets my goat is when its the attitude of You will do this. You will eat that.

keepingbees · 23/02/2019 13:16

Yanbu. I have a nut allergy and can't eat seeds due to a bowel condition, which is also controlled by me being gluten free. So there would be nothing there I could eat.
Sure have healthy options available, but I am sick of this railroading of 'healthy' stuff. Sweeteners give me migraines and I'm slowly being forced out of the soft drink market.

Thurmanmurman · 23/02/2019 14:28

I know your post is lighthearted but I do actually find stuff like this infuriating. Policing adult’s food choices isn’t on!
