I would say pink lady if they weren't so expensive.
Galas are the worst.

Used to be a big fan of Braeburns but I'm afraid I'm addicted to Jazz apples at the moment.

ShannonRockallMalin · 22/02/2019 18:35

I love Pink Lady but they are sooo expensive. Aldi used to do Pink Kids which were smaller (grade outs I guess) and cheaper but I haven’t seen them in a while.

At my old house I planted a Sunset which is a Coxes crossed with something else. They were just lovely but you never see them to buy.

Tursiopstruncatus · 22/02/2019 19:16

Another vote for worcester pearmain. Although we have so many apples from our ?? tree that I find it hard to justify buying apples when they are in season.

Newadventure · 22/02/2019 19:20

Empire Apple's are the best!

Newadventure · 22/02/2019 19:22

Although, I feel like snow white when I'm holding a red delicious so they win too.

SeamstressfromTreacleMineRoad · 22/02/2019 19:25

Braeburns are fine - but nothing touches a Worcester Pearmain. They are difficult to find, but absolutely delicious... Mmmm Smile

youllhavehadyourtea · 22/02/2019 19:26

Mackintosh Reds are my favourite - but you don't see them anymore.

Binglebong · 22/02/2019 19:31

Braeburns and coxs are best. Golden Disgustings are worst.

ceecee32 · 22/02/2019 19:38

Fuji are my absolute favs

Trifle66 · 22/02/2019 19:41

I agree!

Abra1de · 22/02/2019 19:43

Most modern developed apples are too sweet. Cox or Worcester are best.

Lordamighty · 22/02/2019 19:45

My latest favourite is Envy, Braeburn Gala cross.

Fantababy · 22/02/2019 19:46

I love Mac reds. They have them in my local Aldi but they're expensive. (Hoping DH doesn't notice price difference...). Otherwise Braeburn. Golden delicious are hideous.

Petalflowers · 22/02/2019 19:48

Never heard of Mac red. Will have to investigate.

The best apples are those in season - Cox, russet, Braeburn etc.

SalrycLuxx · 22/02/2019 19:49

Dear God no. Cox all the way. braeburns only if cox are totally out of season.

mrcharlie · 22/02/2019 19:54

Love Jazz apples

I have both a apple and a orange every day for dinner, Not had a cold in over 3 years!!

SleepOhHowIMissYou · 22/02/2019 19:55

Empire Apples are the best, the darker the red, the better. Shortly followed by Spartan.

Golden Delicious? - false advertising! Bleugh!

Daisymay2 · 22/02/2019 19:55

Russet or D'Arcy Spice are the best, followed by Worcester and Cox Orange Pippin.
PInk Lady is pap, sweet and soggy, Jazz and Golden Delicious not much better, Braburn is tolerable is nothing better available.

SmarmyMrMime · 22/02/2019 19:59

I tend to seek out Braeburns.

Childhood was Granny Smith or Golden Delicious. I learned never to touch Golden Delicious, I like my apples crisp with some tang.

userschmoozer · 22/02/2019 20:01

Braeburns taste like soap.

onthenaughtystepagain · 22/02/2019 20:01

Another vote for a russet, don't see them very often, my late MIL had a small tree in her garden that produced some beauties.

Theonewiththecat · 22/02/2019 20:05

Granny Smith all the way. I looove crunchy apples.
Golden delicious are right at the bottom of the Apple chain.
Apples should also be kept in the fridge away from dd, and her inability to eat a full apple

Beeblot · 22/02/2019 20:06

Discovery all the way for me. So hard to get hold of though.

Failing that, small and crispy Cox apples are nice.

BlueGlasses · 22/02/2019 20:07

Empire apples are the best for taste but really really hard to get hold off

beanaseireann · 22/02/2019 20:07

I agree- nothing beats a Fuji apple but they are really difficult to find here in Ireland. Aldi, Lidl, Tesco and two very small independent shops sell them on very rare occasions. Sad
I really dislike bitter Granny Smiths, Pink Lady and Braeburns.
You can keep
Your Jazzs and Cox Pippins.
Red Delicious and Gala are the next best think to Fuji but really aren't close.
