I didn’t think I’d be rich but I am cringing at my Facebook ‘memories’ and pretty sure everyone was laughing at me behind my back.

OP posts:
Fluffyears · 20/02/2019 20:02

@mustbeaweasley I have a bodyshop bot on my Facebook doing the same raffles etc. Alsonpists about how using the moisturiser meant she needed ID at the superket 🙄aye Susan so you did!! Also unboxing videos and ‘get your orders to me i’m Putting it through at the end of the week!’ I walk past two body shops on my way to work so have 4 chances each day to get anything if I want it. Why would I wait over a week for her to post it, they also offer next day delivery so again why?

Bufferingkisses · 20/02/2019 20:03

Someone at work got dragged into this. I didn't laugh, none of her colleagues laughed. We felt awful for her and just hoped she didn't get in too deep. Luckily she realised quickly when everyone politely declined to buy anything. A few who were close told her their experiences and showed her some articles but in general people just said thank you but no.

It's a horrible thing to get caught in. I hope your friends are sympathetic.

Stickywhitelovepiss · 20/02/2019 20:09

You are massively BRAVE to even say this.

There are multiple threads on MN that would so welcome your input.

Maybe people cringed a bit at the time - but the majority who know and love you will be just so relieved you’ve seen the light (speaking from experience). And won’t even ever mention it again.

It’s an insidious scam. Don’t beat yourself up over it - these MLMs are designed to prey on your very best qualities.

MissCharleyP · 20/02/2019 20:10

A friend of mine (distant, but known since primary school) does Younique. I unfollowed here as I was sick of the shit, positivity quotes and the cringey video demos that were filling up my news feed. Another friend has just joined Bodyshop and I truly don’t get the point of this one, there’s a store in our town so why do they think people would order from them and wait?

ChikiTIKI · 20/02/2019 20:11

Sorry that happened to you. Glad to hear you're out the other side.

Someone at my work (a hospital) has been spamming the intranet with body shop posts. She did 8 in a row yesterday about some products that had been released at midnight. Nobody responded. Someone else then posted offering some sort of party thing but didn't disclose which pyramid scheme it was. Nobody replied to that either.

At least you're "one of us" again and no longer "one of them". Time to dust yourself off and move on! :) xx

BangingOn · 20/02/2019 20:11

Come over to this thread, plenty of posters on there have been in the same boat www.mumsnet.com/Talk/legal_money_matters/a3495697-mlm-bot-watch-46-lies-damn-lies-and-attraction-marketing?msgid=85063423#85063423

Blackbear10 · 20/02/2019 20:11

Aww it’s ok OP.

We all do silly things sometimes. Flowers

Don’t beat yourself up about it I’m sure your friends on FB are just happy the posts have stopped and won’t even remember after a while, real life will get in the way and they’ll have other things to worry about.

Huniliated · 20/02/2019 20:12

Someone I used to be friends with at college was selling it and I did like the products so I thought it was a good way of getting them cheap.

I opened a Facebook ‘shop’ (one of those pages) bought loads of stock to sell at a market and school fairs but no interest.

topcat2014 · 20/02/2019 20:12

MLM's are a 'Con' - which, remember stands for 'Confidence Trickster'.

Being taken in by a Confidence Trickster can make you feel a bit rubbish afterwards - but I am sure you will get over it in due course OP.!

sideorderofchips · 20/02/2019 20:12

Aye I’m
The same
Op.

Mine are from
About 9-10 years ago before people wised up to mlm. Now I cringe.

nannynick · 20/02/2019 20:15

You are a victim of those who prayed on you. You have done well if you have managed to get out without loosing too much money and loosing too many friends. Admit your mistake to friends and rebuild your relationships.

Over on MoneyMatters there is a long running thread about MLMs. Bot Watch thread 46 is the current one. Pop over and tell your story of how you managed to get out.

Good for you!

Please remember a few things for the future;
If it sounds to good to be true it probably is
There's no such thing as easy money
Money and family/friendships don't mix.

Nicknacky · 20/02/2019 20:15

Rather a personal question I know, but I hope you don’t mind me asking. How much money did you lose?

Huniliated · 20/02/2019 20:15

Mine was similar charley, like WTF was I thinking?

OP posts:
Huniliated · 20/02/2019 20:16

At least £300

OP posts:
OftenHangry · 20/02/2019 20:16

I get when someone got swooped in a decade ago, but absolutely don't understand how can people get in now. There is SO MUCH stuff about mlm everywhere.

1vandal2 · 20/02/2019 20:21

Technically Avon is one but I actually really like their makeup anyway and their fake gel nail polish looks like the real thing and no where near as damaging

PentreBachCymraeg · 20/02/2019 20:22

'Buy my products! LOOK at ALL the weight i lost!

.. Fuck off Wendy, it' s a face shaping filter from Youcam and the only pounds you are losing are the ones from your bank account.

And P. S... Take your inspirational quotes and shove them up your chocolate starfish 👊

Glad you've seen the light OP. 😉

ChikiTIKI · 20/02/2019 20:23

I am sure this situation hurts but you could lose out on £300 by bumping your car, breaking your TV, etc. I know it's different because you invested the time and energy in to it but at least it's not LOADS of money. Just don't let yourself think of what else you could have spent it on... Xx

LordVoldetort · 20/02/2019 20:24

I really hate MLM and I feel bad when fiends just get sucked in time after time.

I don’t ‘laugh’ at my friends who do it, I hide them on FB, feel bad for them and hope they get without too much of a loss

Soubriquet · 20/02/2019 20:25

It’s a shame you have to learn it the hard way.

A friend of mine is a younique bot and likes to make out she can pay for her fun days out and everything with her “income” from this.

In reality, she actually works part time in boots and has a dh who brings in a lot of income...so not really the bundle of wealth she claims it to be

Coldilox · 20/02/2019 20:26

@Patroclus What’s the trading stuff?

Marymarg · 20/02/2019 20:29

I didn't know body shop was mlm. My cousin's daughters just started selling it on facebook and does a lot of raffles, her mum and sister buy all the tickets, they must be skint by now! Grin

BuildAParsnip · 20/02/2019 20:31

I tend to just think how vulnerable that person must be to fall for it. I've been close myself but thankfully didn't fall for Rodan.

Just a breezy apology and then move on.

BuildAParsnip · 20/02/2019 20:32

Is Body Shop? Seems at odds with their image.
