I didn’t think I’d be rich but I am cringing at my Facebook ‘memories’ and pretty sure everyone was laughing at me behind my back.

I have a FB friend who does Body Shop at home; ('her name' Bodylicious Goodies) she calls it as apparently they can't use Body Shop in the name of her group.
It really is most irritating, the only people who seem to buy are her husband and 2 adult kids.
The thing that makes me laugh is when her and daughter go in about the bath bombs; 'did you know the bath bombs are so good you can use them for up to 3 baths?' Hmm I don't want to be fannying around getting half a bath bomb out of hot water before I get in my bath thanks!

I found out I was allergic to aloe Vera due to using forever living products. I emailed the rep and she called me a scammer and a arsehole on Facebook and said I couldn’t be allergic as aloe Vera is natural ( you know like peanuts, shellfish and dairy 🤣🤪).

Recently another friend has started up with Utility Warehouse, I'm not sure if it is an MLM

A husband of a friend of mine does UW.
He's a total pain the arse about it, always banging on about it and if/when someone mentions MLM he always leaps on the posts and writes such carefully worded replies you can tell it has to be preapproved spiel from HQ.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 03/11/2019 15:01

I always feel really bad for the hosts too. Every single party I've been dragged along to, they have spent a load of cash on food and drinks and it gets wasted as nearly everyone drops out last minute.

I feel so sad for them as they must be gutted.

JustDanceAddict · 03/11/2019 15:10

A relative does Body Shop and she def tries to recruit through FB. I feel bad for her as really BS is in most high streets/shopping centres so no idea why they developed the ‘at home’ thing.

Is enjo an MLM?

TildaKauskumholm · 03/11/2019 15:31

Not surprised Body Shop is doing this, their sales figures must be terrible as the products are so crappy now, can find better and cheaper in Super drug or any supermarket.

TildaKauskumholm · 03/11/2019 15:44

I will defend - although only a little - Neals Yard, as I signed up a few years back. The starter kit was about £90 I think, for over £200 worth of products, all of which I used myself. I placed one order months later, got the 25% discount on my next year's supply of face creams etc plus free gifts etc, then finished. For personal use it's great, but as with body shop etc not sure why others would buy from you rather than go direct to their website.

lauryloo · 03/11/2019 16:18

lots of my friends have done mlm and once, i was a tiny bit temped, but realised its a complete scam

my local mencap centre are having a pamper day and i was disappointed to see that a tropic skin care are the ones offering make overs. Makes me so cross, that someone would use a charity event to make money

YouokHun · 03/11/2019 17:09

If you look on mlmtruth.org there is a master list which will tell you which companies are pyramid schemes (or”MLM” as they like to be called). Only MAC isn’t MLM, all the others mentioned upthread are. They are all exploitative shysters. FTC research has demonstrated at failure rate of over 99.7% - that’s shocking.

Soubriquet · 03/11/2019 17:12

I had a friend who did younique.

She was posting multiple times a day about #bosslife and all that crap.

Spouting about how her purple card paid for her days out with the children (it didn’t she had a full time job on top of it).

I’m still friends with her...she’s just suddenly stopped doing younique.

No posting about why, it’s just disappeared

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/11/2019 17:13

Something I thought was disgusting recently - a few MLM huns posted to our local facebook groups offering Thomas Cook employees a percentage off their products straight after the collapse. Anything to try and make money.

LordNotAgain · 03/11/2019 18:18

I know this is an old thread but if it raises awareness then so be it! My aunt has done the following MLMs over the last 20years:

Virgin Vie
Pampered chef
Avon (a million times)
Body shop
Tropic
Recently is doing younique.

The woman must be an absolute idiot, I don't know how anybody can waste the amount of money she has on so many different schemes. Her best customer is my bloody grandmother. She ALWAYS gave us Christmas presents from her bloody products and put pressure on family to buy from her.

She is massively in debt so not a single one of these ventures has amounted to anything.

Olliephaunt4eyes · 03/11/2019 19:13

DoTerra is one that seems to be popping up lately and I can't stand it. Pure snake oil and preying on the health anxieties of vulnerable people. I really do judge the people I know who have started peddling it.

Kitsandkids · 03/11/2019 21:35

A friend of mine did a candle one a few years ago. She hosted a party at her house then a party at another friend’s house, then realised that all her friends had bought their fill of candles and got out.

Another friend did Body Shop for a while but again, once she realised all her friends had already bought everything they wanted and she wasn’t making any money, she got out.

Another friend has been doing Body Shop for about a year. Her FB feed is full of live videos of her applying various creams, posts about how fabulous the products are, how she’s loving life etc. She does appear to be doing quite well, but she’s very sweet and has had some issues in life, so I think it’s the same friends and family buying off her out of kindness. She’s recently got some kind of ‘promotion’ but I’m not sure what it means. She sometimes puts on adverts to ‘join the team’ but I always think, if you’re making money selling products, why would you invite someone to come and take away your potential customers?

YouokHun · 03/11/2019 22:20

Her ‘promotion’ probably means she’s hit targets by buying herself stock. The Hun is the customer and MLM bonuses are based on purchases not sales.

DidntLikeRugbyAnyway · 03/11/2019 22:36

A fb friend of mine must have gone through at least 4 or 5 of these MLMs in two years. Clearly doesn’t make her any money as she has a full time job alongside them. Yet she’s full of #bossbabe, being an entrepreneur and living your dreams. She must update her fb every hour, I’ve unfollowed it.
