Name changed as outing.

We have saved so hard for this new bathroom. We have reconfigured it and had everything new. Stripped to bare brick.

I really don't like it :-(

We still want to put a shelf up behind the toilet with some nice things on, and a towel storer where 3 towels will be rolled up at once in there.

Please be honest. Be as brutal as needed. I want to change the paint I think but no idea what to. We need to get a blind. What else can I do to make this the dream bathroom I envisaged Blush

The floor is a bit dark for me, but gosh that shower looks lush. Proper shower envy, as I have to make do with a shower in a bath. I need a new bathroom and am planning a nice floor with Portuguese style tiled floor.

angel3008 · 21/02/2019 21:42

The window wall you can put up tiles - bright shiny textured tiles.
Also it feels dim, you can add more lighting so the the tiles will shine off the bright light and bring a sparkle in there

plainchocolate · 21/02/2019 21:43

I agree a nice blind ? Oak Venetian and maybe a plant would be lush.Maybe go for a very pale green paint. It’s a lovely layout and backdrop to get creative.

Nothing7 · 21/02/2019 21:51

What about a line of mosaic tiles above the tiles to add colour?

sparkling123 · 21/02/2019 21:51

First thing I thought was wall colour, the suite and layout look fine x

Motherontheedge1 · 21/02/2019 22:03

I think it’s lovely. Just needs a splash of colour which could be added with a blind, maybe a mat and towels. x

Tavannach · 21/02/2019 22:05

I think it's basically lovely. I'd paint the walls mid to dark grey.

SW6mama · 21/02/2019 22:11

It’s going to be lovely. It’s just not finished yet! Put your thumb over the window on the pic so you can see everything but the window. See? It all works when you take that out. The undressed window, shot in the dark, combined with a bare room is giving it a cold clinical feel. Here’s what to do. 1) if you can afford it, get some New England style shutters put in, super practical for bathrooms and very stylish. Make sure you get the ones that split in the middle so you can leave the top but open all day. OR if that’s too much of an investment get a ROMAN blind. Not a roller blind. No garish patterns needed here, a simple ticking or wider muted stripe will be lovely. Now, your window is sorted you need some warmer organic textures to balance the tiles and glass. Change the mirror above the sink to a vintage wooden or gilt, the BIGGEST that will fit in the space, go mad this is a statement. Cheap to buy on eBay. Take out ALL those tiny plants. Buy 2 glass milk-bottle type vases and shove 3 tulips/daffodils and put either side of the sink. Buy the most expensive hand wash and cream you can afford then keep the bottle and fill it up with cheapo stuff. Buy an old milking stool (eBay, flea market) and place between the loo and the bath. Then buy a massive fern and a candle and put both on the stool. Then find a knackered old wooden open cabinet and fix above the loo, put another plant on top, fill with towels (folded not rolled) and bath oil etc. Then get a wooden slatted bath ‘mat’ for the shower/bath. Then pour yourself a glass of something chilled, lock the door and enjoy!

hastingsmua1 · 21/02/2019 22:14

Looking at it again, I think the main thing (aside from flooring/paint) that makes it look off is the lack of a window covering, as that makes it look unfinished/a work in progress.

I think the tiles are nice, actually.

It’s not an awful room, definitely a good base to work with. It just doesn’t resemble your ‘inspo’ pics at all though.

WhiteDust · 21/02/2019 22:18

It's REALLY nice OP!!
You just need a blind, some towels, a plant and some holders (toothbrushes/soap etc) so it's not empty.

I can't really see properly but does the wall colour go with the tiles? There is absolutely nothing wrong with the tiles/floor so if the walls are the problem for you, paint a different colour maybe?

Don't lose confidence, it is lovely and I'm jealous.

WhiteDust · 21/02/2019 22:20

I've just looked again... yes, the cream walls against the grey tiles.
The tiles and floor are perfect.
Change the wall colour - even to white.

origamiunicorn · 21/02/2019 22:22

Looking again I think it is the cream walls. I think just painting them white would make such a difference as they would match with the cool tiles as PPs have said. Then add some contrasting accessories and dress it, maybe a plant like a Monstera or a Dragon Plant and it's look so different. The pic below is almost the same decor as your bathroom but the white paint goes so much better with grey tiles. Or...you could go for a blue like in the other pics.

Keep us updated, would love to see it!

Wall colour clashes with the grey toned tiles. I think a muted colour on the wall would look nice. Maybe a sagey green. Some botanical art. And a big pot plant.

deifersmum · 21/02/2019 22:29

I really like it but I'd have had a lighter coloured floor, try putting a but of colour in there. It is lovely though. Xx

WhiteDust · 21/02/2019 22:44

OP!!! I've just seen your inspiration pics!!

All you need to do is paint the walls grey or white (as in your pics) and get rid of the cream!
You have the floor, tiles and white suite already!

It's going to look amazing!

MaudeLynne · 21/02/2019 22:51

Is this some kind of in-joke thing that I don't get? I certainly haven't rtft, life is too short, but why is there 741 posts about a random bathroom?

WhiteDust · 21/02/2019 23:09

Maude
Why not?! 😄

luckylorca · 21/02/2019 23:10

I think you need:

  • brilliant white walls to balance the very dark floor
  • 2 bushy plants
  • 2 orchids in lovely vases
  • a pot of something very tall and interesting-sculptural like bamboo
  • towel set the same colour as the blinds
  • 2 large photos/paintings in matching frames.
  • set of large/interesting candles

That will make it look much more stylish and put together.

X

Do you have panels or tiles or anything?it's stunning. How have you done that to the window., as in what is it?

OP posts:
AdaHopper · 21/02/2019 23:32

It is a cheap ikea blind. There is a curtain box (not yet painted) above. The grey made all the difference. It was bland before.

AdaHopper · 21/02/2019 23:35

We have tiles in the shower and a splash screen above the sink (that adds a little colour)

Costco toilet roll AdaHopper? :o

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/02/2019 23:38

Beautiful bathroom btw - that's bigger than my bedroom and our en-suite would fit in your shower cubicle.
