Name changed as outing.

We have saved so hard for this new bathroom. We have reconfigured it and had everything new. Stripped to bare brick.

I really don't like it :-(

We still want to put a shelf up behind the toilet with some nice things on, and a towel storer where 3 towels will be rolled up at once in there.

Please be honest. Be as brutal as needed. I want to change the paint I think but no idea what to. We need to get a blind. What else can I do to make this the dream bathroom I envisaged Blush

I love that green photo that someone has put up and now I’ve looked at your photos again, I see that the bath sits flush with the wall and the toilet is not raised off the floor, so there’ll be no dust and fluff issues for you to contend with there.
A few more tiles, some colour on the walls and nice coordinating towels is all the bathroom needs to take the plainness off.

WaxOnFeckOff · 21/02/2019 20:38

I've never had a fabric blind (or anything else) go mouldy. Current ones have been in the bathrooms for nearly 10 years. We are a family of 4 and have showers every day. The key is properly airing and heating your bathroom.

RoseMartha · 21/02/2019 20:39

Needs a bit of colour, colourful blind with matching towels.

Looks a lovely bathroom fittings etc.
You should see my bathroom fittings, although all white are totally mismatched as replaced at different times. Floor needed replacing a decade ago. Would love a bathroom like yours.

Hope you can enjoy it 🤗

@satsumafan yes Blush

Okay so these were our inspiration when we were bathroom hunting.

Can't really explain why we went for the floor that we did....

I’ve not waded through all the answers and you’re doing well if you’re still reading now. The main problem is that ‘honey yellow’ you were after (and the boring cream that it actually is) is a massive clash with the grey tiles. Take a tile when choosing paint if you can, or match sample cards against one. If you’re not a bold colour person, you should be able to find a warm (red based) grey that would make the whole area more calming. Many greens would work, but again check the tone against the tile so you don’t end up with another clash. You can use the blind and/or wallpaper to bring some calming vegetation into the space-think bamboo print or bold sized flower heads.

You could then still do an accent colour with towels/bath mat etc without needing to do a whole bright wall. Or do one wall in bold colour and tone the washable stuff to match tiles.

Final problem is the window wall tiles are wrong. If you’re going to end up repainting or papering that wall anyway, I’d recommend taking top row off and finishing with just a 3 tile mosaic or other short (8cm or less) border tile. It will fix the balance on that wall. Or tile it all the way up to ceiling.

It’s not far off and room is lovely, but your grey tiles and cream walls are a horrible clash for what are 2 fairly unassuming neutral colours! Find a better neighbour for the grey Smile

So really simplistic but then we would accessorise. I just hate what we have ended up with

Just looks a bit clinical at the mo, needs some splashes of colour and some bits and bobs to make it more homely - other than that it is LOVELY 😊

Duckshead · 21/02/2019 20:52

I've got a fabric blind and not gone mouldy, you can wash them

Juicyfrooty · 21/02/2019 20:53

The colour on the walls of the third picture would look great in your bathroom.

gerispringer · 21/02/2019 20:54

I’ve got a wet room roller blind that is waterproof . You can get them in funky colours.

FullLaundryBasket · 21/02/2019 20:56

It's the wall colour. I'd change it and add some accessories

SatsumaFan · 21/02/2019 20:58

How long has it been finished? Have you spent much time in there yet? I think sometimes you have to give it time before you love it. If you're anything like me you're scared of change and hate making decisions when you do a room up.

It's really lovely! Have you had any friends round yet? Sometimes all we see is what's wrong with it, but not what's right. Always nice to have a fresh pair of eyes look over it and remind you of all the good bits Smile

manicmij · 21/02/2019 20:58

There are blinds specific for kitchen and bathrooms as they withstand moisture and are wipe clean. I have them and wouldn't have anything else in those kind of rooms. Your bathroom is lovely, only a bit of colour needed eg blind, perhaps some colourful glass plaques on the walls or even inexpensive art.. Wouldn't go with a shelf above toilet as likely to be in the way unless placed very high and then it will look out of place. Would definitely not have a bath mat on the floor unless being used. Take your time, you will find what you feel is right for the room.

MilletSentToForceIt · 21/02/2019 21:02

Can you still get the tiles you have used? If so definitely tile along the toilet wall, for reasons discussed earlier, but also to pull the room together.

Dukux have an app that allows you to try out all their colours actually in situ, it’s fantastic. Simply use your phone camera, choose a colour and tap on the walls pictured on your phone, your chosen colour floods the walls and you take a snap. It helped me to decide to paint my living room walls navy blue (massive step) but it stood out from the app, and it looks fantastic IRL. ALThough I did use a Little Green paint colour, purely for the finish and lack of smell.

Canyoutellwhoiamyet

I have to be honest I wasn't keen on the bathroom(and I feel really awful for saying that because you've obviously paid alot of money and done alot of work to get your new bathroom)but after seeing how it looked when you used the app to change the walls to white and it looks amazing with the white walls.

Honestly it makes it look like a different room and I think with the addition of a nice blind,a piece of art work on the wall,a nice bath rug and a couple of green plants it will look amazing.

I don't know how much your looking to spend but TK Maxx,Flying Tiger,Primark and Dunelm have all got some lovely pieces in at the moment that can be used for a bathroom.

angelfacecuti75 · 21/02/2019 21:18

I really like it but i think i like neutrals quite a lot. Maybe some coloured nets or coloured blind and matching bath mats and similar coloured pictures? I think its just very white but rather than repaint it just add some accents of colour (seems a faff to paint it when its just been done?). Hth

Nothing7 · 21/02/2019 21:20

I think someone above just said what I’m about to say, it’s a cool coloured bathroom suite and tiles and has warm paint on the walls. The bathroom is contemporary and probably just needs a more contemporary colour. Not pastel or warm. I’d go as far as saying white walls would look better than the cream. Would probably suggest pale teal, turquoise, blues but that’s my colour palette. It could probably take a modern yellow if you like that.
It’s a beautiful suite by the way I’m extremely envious.

lilypoppet · 21/02/2019 21:27

I like it. Just use a brightly coloured blind at the window and add colour with accessories.

BlackberryandNettle · 21/02/2019 21:27

It's a nice shower, sink, bath and toilet and I think the flooring would work with different tiling and wall colour. Grey and cream don't look great together. Also I'd have tiled around the sides of the whole bath area and gone up higher.

BuildAParsnip · 21/02/2019 21:29

It's the floor I think. It jars with everything else.

Eggomobile · 21/02/2019 21:33

I’m afraid I haven’t read all 720 comments but I have skimmed the op updates.

I like the actual tiles but don’t think they work as they are now. They could look really modern but the grout on the tiles should be grey rather than white. Is it possible to change? Also, you can get nice chrome edging to finish the top and sides of the tiles, something like that rather than white silicone will make it look much more modern.

I’d then paint the walls a mid grey (chic shadow is a lovely shade) add a nice big green plant and a blind.

I also love the flooring!!
