Name changed as outing.

We have saved so hard for this new bathroom. We have reconfigured it and had everything new. Stripped to bare brick.

I really don't like it :-(

We still want to put a shelf up behind the toilet with some nice things on, and a towel storer where 3 towels will be rolled up at once in there.

Please be honest. Be as brutal as needed. I want to change the paint I think but no idea what to. We need to get a blind. What else can I do to make this the dream bathroom I envisaged Blush

You've got a lovely blank canvas to add your own personal touches to

ineedtostopbeingsolazy · 21/02/2019 13:15

I colour co-ordinate depending on which towels are in use -because I have OCD-

Eh? Is this what you think OCD is? Hmm

Anyway, it's been said loads but yes the wall is wrong, get rid of the mag.

Also why wouldn't you tile the floor of an upstairs bathroom? We have tiles in both upstairs bathrooms no has ever said this to us.

Canyoutellwhoiamyet · 21/02/2019 13:19

@ineedtostopbeingsolazy

They all said that tiles upstairs on the floor would almost certainly end up with cracked grout and they would go uneven. Every single one said not to do it, as it was our preference. Not sure if it's due to the age of the house.... It's 90 years old and we have vvvvvvvvvvv wonky door frames etc

I think you need to finish it with some tiling. At least on the walls, but preferably the walls and floor.

Honeyroar · 21/02/2019 13:21

The main issue with tiled floors on a bathroom is its expensive/difficult to get them up if there's a leak or you need to get at the pipes.

I like it a lot with the dark blue. I'd love to see a pic of it with a dark charcoal/slate grey and white blinds and towels. I don't think the plant is needed either when there's colour on the walls. It was needed in the white room to give it colour..

OP have you name changed?

LadyPeach · 21/02/2019 13:22

I'd add loads of green plants (personally fake so I don't kill them) maybe a corner shelf with some hanging green things.

Canyoutellwhoiamyet · 21/02/2019 13:23

@honeyroar I haven't name changed, why? It's looking normal to me

I asked dh about this, he said we have (trying to remember what he said) board (plywood?) with loads nailed down something like a few inches apart so it doesn't blow and sealed with something then you can tile onto it.
You can't tile straight onto floor boards or without preparing the floor properly.

I wondered as our tiles have been down over 10 years and the grout has never cracked and none of them have moved.

But I love the look of the wood floor in a bathroom.
Out en-suite has wood floor effect tiles in it (in grey). When we redo the main bathroom I'd love a wood type floor.

DistressedAndWorried7845 · 21/02/2019 13:27

Op its stunning! I’d love to have a new bathroom one day. I’m in love with this! What a lovely throne Grin

Honeyroar · 21/02/2019 13:33

OP it was because your latter posts weren't coming up in green last time I looked, but it's now changed you back to green again. Strange!

Yes you can put hardboard down to tile floors on, or leave a riled trapdoor to get at pipes, but it's a big job if your floors aren't level or it's a big room. Something we're deciding on now as we've a big en suite to do. Our house is 300 yrs old and nothing is level. Must be easier in a modern house.

howhowhow · 21/02/2019 13:34

You've painted it magnolia. Change the paint colour and it will look lovely.

callymarch · 21/02/2019 13:48

dark grey, probably different colour blind to add a splash of colour though

@callymarch thanks so much.

Just sent those to dh...will wait and see what he says! I prefer the dark grey to the blue, so grateful Smile

This is beautiful and what i would call a blank canvas, now choose a accent colour you like and maybe add a plant.

Redskyandrainbows67 · 21/02/2019 14:35

Dark grey and blind looks good!
I’d consider shelves or a stand instead of plant

Cornishclio · 21/02/2019 14:38

I like it and think it just needs a brightly coloured roller blind and accessories like towels, candles, maybe a bath mat and a picture. If you are sticking with the magnolia or honey walls I would go for an orange coloured blind/picture etc.

MillyMollyMandie · 21/02/2019 14:51

Op, the blue is nicer. It compliments your flooring.

They grey is as stark as the magnolia.

Its a fabulous bathroom.

kaytee87 · 21/02/2019 14:51

The floors too dark. I'd replace it with patterned tiles.

Confusedbeetle · 21/02/2019 14:58

Statement colour walls, bright. Loud coloured towels

HappydaysArehere · 21/02/2019 15:07

I think leave the White for the time being and get a really bright patterned blind for the window from which you can pick a colour for the bath mats and accessories. It’s lovely and deserves the extras.

bingoitsadingo · 21/02/2019 15:29

I don't think the grey goes with the floor very well - the floor is a lovely warm wood but with the grey it looks drab (and I say this as someone who loves grey). I would suggest a dusty/muted teal for the walls and a black and white patterned blind, bathmat, etc.

stayathomer · 21/02/2019 15:31

Didn't rtft but saw what you said about tiles. I think wall tiles are probably the game changer but I still think it's a great bathroom!

beanaseireann · 21/02/2019 15:36

I think it's lovely OP.
Just add a really nice colourful blind- one that gets pulled up rather than down and nice bright towels and mats- fuschia or lime green.

beanaseireann · 21/02/2019 15:37

Oops cctually the blind needs to go down rather than up in this instance Blush

caperplips · 21/02/2019 15:49

I love the dark wooden floors. We have similar in our bathroom. I am not a fan of bathrooms tiled floor to ceiling, its a very cold, clinical look for me personally.

We clad our walls with wood panelling and painted it all fallow and ball string - and it gets loads of compliments.

We have a plain, classic white bathroom suite - bath, shower unit, toilet.

It is a perhaps slightly 'Shaker' looking, maybe? But we have a mirror over the sink that has a beautiful ornate guilded frame and it is the only very decorative thing in the room.

We have a variety of towels we use, mainly nice patterns and colours - Kath Kidston etc

I don't like matchy matchy things like ALL orange / pink accessories or plants in bathrooms
