Name changed as outing.

We have saved so hard for this new bathroom. We have reconfigured it and had everything new. Stripped to bare brick.

I really don't like it :-(

We still want to put a shelf up behind the toilet with some nice things on, and a towel storer where 3 towels will be rolled up at once in there.

Please be honest. Be as brutal as needed. I want to change the paint I think but no idea what to. We need to get a blind. What else can I do to make this the dream bathroom I envisaged Blush

PS I really like the towel!

PurplePepperEater · 20/02/2019 20:29

I wouldn’t go with terracotta, it’s a bit 90s to me, like blue & yellow, remember when everyone had a blue and yellow kitchen and a terracotta living room?

WeeDangerousSpike · 20/02/2019 20:31

Yes to blue walls, no no no to terracotta towels.

Really. No.

How about like this?

Ew

GirlOnIt · 20/02/2019 20:31

I think you can get away with keeping the wood floor if you don't go too dark a grey maybe more a taupe grey and I'd avoid adding black.

awkwardturtle · 20/02/2019 20:32

You have a fabulous neutral palette and can add interest with towels, bath mat and blind. Changing the paint colour or tiling (ffs!) will be expensive. Get a blind you like, buy some fab towels and bath mat in a rich, deep colour and you will love it. Also, easy to ring the changes. When you get bored get different colour towels.

gindrinkingmarypoppins · 20/02/2019 20:33

It's bare. And cold looking.
The actual bathroom itself is lovely, but it looks half finished. So, to start with I'd say you need a lovely blind (roman, to add some much needed softer texture), bath mats/carpet and a picture or two on the walls. Oh, and some greenery..a plant or two for added texture/life. You're nearly there, it just needs some homeliness put into it.

TatianaLarina · 20/02/2019 20:33

It’s fine OP, you just need to get used to it.

I don’t think the wall colour goes with the tiles but that’s the only thing I’d change.

Certainly don’t put in 70s pot plants.

It just needs fluffy towels, bath mat, and a blind with a stylish print to give it some character. Maybe some pictures.

foodenvy · 20/02/2019 20:35

It's a lovely bathroom, it just needs you're own personal touches to warm it up a bit.

Ivegotthree · 20/02/2019 20:36

No to feature wall. So 2008.

No to metallic bling wallpaper or horrid dark furnishings like that last pic.

Just cheer it up a bit with a nice (fabric) blind, bath may, art on the walls. Nice candle or two. Voila

WarpedGalaxy · 20/02/2019 20:37

It looks a bit clinical. Yes, a different color paint, a vibrant blind, an eye catching painting, bright coloured towels, accessories will liven it up and give it some personality.

goingtotown · 20/02/2019 20:37

You need more tiles, it looks unfinished, carry the tiles along the toilet wall. The paint colour is wrong, a pale grey almost white would be better.
I don’t like the spaces at the ends of the bath, you’ll be putting toiletries on the window sill.
I’d prefer the the radiator on the other side of the sink near to the bath & away from the door.

Muddysnowdrop · 20/02/2019 20:37

It's a bathroom, theyre expensive. Whatever on trend colour you pick will be yesterday's news long before you are ready for an upgrade. Pick somthing that makes you smile when you go in.

Juicyfrooty · 20/02/2019 20:38

Do u have any pictures of bathrooms that u do like op? Did u have any pictures for inspiration? It might give us a better idea of what your tastes are

MitziK · 20/02/2019 20:39

Dark grey-blue or grey-green walls. Municipal beige is never a good look, even when it doesn't completely clash with the rest of the room.

A storage unit made out of dark wood for towels, flannels and random bathroom stuff.

Possibly a long mirror by the shower - even a chair for nail painting, waiting for conditioner/lotions to soak in, etc.

Duck boards in a dark colour for stepping out of the shower without sliding over on your arse

Good sized plants - one on the floor, one on the windowsill.

White plantation shutters for privacy.

Pictures if you like the idea. I do - just not the usual starfish and jaunty little boats.

Duck board for getting out of the bath. Possibly a second towel rail or hooks up on the far left wall for dressing gowns/towels.

A couple of pretty bottles of bath stuff.

You've done a great job on the bare bones (although I personally prefer white tiles all the way up to the ceiling because it's so much easier to clean and they provide a great foil for other colours), it's just that it doesn't look finished.

LittleRen · 20/02/2019 20:40

How is the shower working for you? Genuine question, with the no door thing - doesn’t the water just go onto the floor? The only time I have seen doorless shower cubicles has been in wet rooms.

Lifeofa · 20/02/2019 20:43

What about a mix of colours with the towels and you could tie in with the blind www.next.co.uk/homeware/bathroom/bathroom-fittings/4

AnotherEmma · 20/02/2019 20:43

On reflection, I think the dark wood effect floor and the pale grey tiles would be ok together if you got the wall colour right. You need white or pale grey. But orange "accents" (another word I dislike) wouldn't work. I would suggest teal or maybe green.

jinglet · 20/02/2019 20:44

I'd have tiles on the whole wall where the bath is- it currently looks half finished. Agree about changing the wall colour- a crisp white or light grey would look nice. Needs some wicker basket storage in there.

AnotherEmma · 20/02/2019 20:47

Wicker basket storage - noooo!

I like the fact that we clearly all have different tastes, though. Just to confuse the OP give you ideas Grin

Canyoutellwhoiamyet · 20/02/2019 20:47

The shower is working okay, the tray is almost 1.5m long and we stand the other end to the open end.

We put the bathmat (not in pic as it's our old one and doesn't match) butted up to the shower tray and it absorbs any water coming out.

If I'm honest the bathroom is impractical. We have a 3yo and a baby.... I feel this bathroom will be destroyed in a few years... maybe even months. Really regretting all our choices and we have saved for 3 yrs for this :(
Feel like ripping it all out and starting again but I'm glad people have been honest, don't think I'm not as I need opinions. I've not shown anyone IRL as I knew it wasn't right just couldn't work out why

I like the wooden shutter idea on the window

This is going to sound weird.

But for me, the toilet is too 'exposed' in the middle there. I like toilets in corners/closely beside other things.

So it looks all unbalanced. Would cost way too much to redo though and you might not have my weird feeling about toilets!

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 20/02/2019 20:49

Hi OP!

There's a pinkish tone to the wall paint that really isn't working for you at the moment, make it a cool off white with a hint of pale grey/ stone.

Add a nice Roman blind. Use a quality fabric ( roman blinds don't use much fabric and you could get a roll end), and get some good quality towels that tone in with that - T K Maxx are your friend, quality towels for very little money.

Add a nice art print or two, maybe some nice architectural prints. You can buy a poster or print then get a frame from Ikea for an expensive look that won't cost a lot.

Finally add a bit of texture, be that with the weave on your blind fabric, an attractive basket in a complimentary colour, a plant or two, maybe in a stone or glazed ceramic pot.

Welcome to your new bathroom! 🛁
