Name changed as outing.

We have saved so hard for this new bathroom. We have reconfigured it and had everything new. Stripped to bare brick.

I really don't like it :-(

We still want to put a shelf up behind the toilet with some nice things on, and a towel storer where 3 towels will be rolled up at once in there.

Please be honest. Be as brutal as needed. I want to change the paint I think but no idea what to. We need to get a blind. What else can I do to make this the dream bathroom I envisaged Blush

It's bland, that's why you're not getting a wow feeling OP. It needs colour and making personal, atm it's a bit like a magnolia new build before it's moved into.

Ignoring suggestions that would be undoing what you've already done too much I would:

Tile the whole wall with the bath. Edge to edge and all the way to the ceiling.

Change the colour of the paint. It clashes with the tiles. The tiles are a cool colour, the paint is too warm, and because they are the same depth of colour/shade they clash.
Go for a darker shade than you think - the room can take it.

A plant would be nice. A big one. Or more than one.

I don't understand what the little mirror by the shower is for? Why's that there?

Think luxurious boutique hotel when you're furnishing it with towels blinds mats etc. That will give you the wow feeling you're missing out on atm.

ErickBroch · 20/02/2019 19:51

I agree with most people - floor and walls. I know it's too late now but I really don't like the floor with the bathroom! I would spice up the walls with paint/tiles that give it something a bit nice.

It's obviously lovely and brand new - just needs some changes to make it less bland :)

DinosApple · 20/02/2019 19:51

I'd give paint it dark pink, or a dark grey. Apart from the wall colour it looks fab!

bellabasset · 20/02/2019 19:51

I would put shutters over the window that fold back. Have bookcase style units with glass doors to go either side of the bath and lights above. I would use lilac and grey paint on the walls with matching towels in lilac, grey and white. You could have a ladder style unit to stack towels on.

I might have lilac walls grey paint on the shutters, ladder rack etc. That should add warmth but not be too feminine.

Chewbecca · 20/02/2019 19:52

Dark paint or wallpaper is all you need to make it glam.

fillmyglassplease · 20/02/2019 19:53

Beautiful bathroom, just needs a splash of colour!

tildaMa · 20/02/2019 19:53

The magnolia must go. Whatever you do - pastels, greys, bold colours will be better.
Can you even see more than top of your head in that mirror? It's much too high up the wall. Also the whole area between sink and mirror should be tiled or you'll be forever cleaning splashes on the wall.
Tiles around bath look unfinished, maybe add a mosaic border to them like the one above sink.
They lied to you, it's perfectly fine to tile upstairs bathroom. You could also do underfloor heating then and have a lovely warm floor to step out of bath/shower on to and then you could do the shower without a tray, just tiles with linear drain. This tray means a lot of scuffed toes in your future.

WeeDangerousSpike · 20/02/2019 19:53

I'm a twat. The weird mirror is a reflection! As you were...

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 20/02/2019 19:54

It's gorgeous. Don't make any major decisions until you've put in toiletries, towels, bath mats etc Live with it for a while then see

PoshPenny · 20/02/2019 19:55

I think if you painted the walls white instead of their current magnolia colour you would like the room a lot more. A grey ish colour to tone with your wall tiles would also work. Then whatever colours you like for mats, towels and window blind. You could add more tiles if you wanted, but I don't think you need to.

Nothinglefttochoose · 20/02/2019 19:56

I think it’s nice but I’m not keen on walking in and looking straight at the toilet. I would have put the toilet behind the door or somewhere else.

Notso · 20/02/2019 19:56

I don't understand what the little mirror by the shower is for? Why's that there?
Isn't that a reflection?

Radiofred · 20/02/2019 19:56

I haven’t rtft but I’m not keen on your units- the toilet and basin look very clinical and look like kind of thing you’d see in public toilets. Maybe some colour and all of your bathroom bits would counteract this though?

Vicky1990 · 20/02/2019 19:57

I have put an indoor plant in my bathroom and it has made all the difference,, completely changed the feeling of the room.
Lots of different ones are available, I have an Umberella plant, it's about three foot high standing on a small bathroom stool, so in all about five foot high.

AlphaJuno · 20/02/2019 19:58

What about a different colour grout between the tiles? Bit plain with white.

howtotrainyourdragqueen · 20/02/2019 20:00

The paint doesn't match IMO

The creamy yellow against the white doesn't work. I wouldn't add too much coloured paint, maybe a pale grey or more pale coffee type coloured walls. Then add some art and a coloured blind, towels and mat

cordeliavorkosigan · 20/02/2019 20:00

My friend has incredible statement wallpaper in his bathroom and it is amazing. Matching towels. Could try that!

Thisaintphaedra · 20/02/2019 20:01

I think your bathroom is lovely.
But I know how you feel I think. I spent a lot and went to lots of effort in my home and didn’t always feel I got the ‘wow’ I wanted.

Are you on Instagram? I joined just to get inspiration for home decor and love it! Lots of ideas and ideas for ‘styling’. I never knew people went to such detail... I also use Pinterest and never thought I would be excited to look at ‘bathroom tray styling’. Worth a look maybe. It has really made a difference for me to add more wow factor to rooms.

Mother87 · 20/02/2019 20:01

It's got great potential! Needs warming up that's all... imo... i would paint opposite walls in Duck Egg Blue/A textured fabric roman blind in faded-rose/1 big canvas pic on a large space and some smaller pics elsewhere... towels to co-ordinate with walls/blind and a tall shiny plantGrin

origamiunicorn · 20/02/2019 20:02

Our bathroom is all white/beige, we want to paint some grey into it to give it a contrast like the pics below. Something like this might work?

To ask you to look at this pic of my new bathroom and tell me why I hate it!

PettyContractor · 20/02/2019 20:02

I think you don't like it because the paint is too cream.

I agree with this. The contrast of white fittings against off-white background is not working. I think you need to go white or else a colour that contrasts with white. (I can't really tell the colour of the tiles, that may affect the colour that's best.)

There's generally nothing wrong with the layout or fittings, this is easily fixable, to the extent their is a problem at all.

HeronLanyon · 20/02/2019 20:06

I think a reallyndarkmlaintnwkuld look good. Matt dark gray or very dark black/blue. Would need to get lighting right. The curvy sink - hmmm not too in love with it but I think once all your stuff is in and rug on floor etc it will look great ! Just looks cold and empty in photos. Easily sorted ! Well done !

tealady · 20/02/2019 20:07

I think the bathroom is fine but just needs finishing touches. Personally I would prefer the wall colour to match your lovely tiles. Then get a really nice patterned fabric roman blind made eg www.blinds-2go.co.uk/roman-blinds/15237/navajo-tomato.html or www.blinds-2go.co.uk/roman-blinds/20245/sula-berry-crush.html
Then pick out colours from blind for towels and maybe add something on the wall - a framed print. Its just a bit naked at the moment but nothing is 'wrong' except perhaps the paint colour.

LimpidPools · 20/02/2019 20:10

You think the paint is magnolia. It does look magnolia. Magnolia is depressing. Get rid Grin

And then get some colour in there. A plant, a picture or framed postcards on the walls, soap dish, posh toiletries, fluffy towels!

Everything looks perfectly nice (except the magnolia) but there isn't much to get excited about yet. You've got the bones of it, now it needs dressing.

Oh and maybe a really nice smelly candle, so it smells inviting instead of of paint and manual labour.

Canyoutellwhoiamyet · 20/02/2019 20:11

Thanks for all the comments and sorry for the delay.

Too many to respond to but in general...

All the furniture is from Soak.com apart from the bath which was from drench. The shower tray is 1200 x 800 . We opted for the no door idea as our old cubicle had sliding doors and were so grotty as they were really hard to clean

I understand the suggestions about we should have had the bath on the same wall as the shower but due to our soil pipe being on that wall for the toilet, we couldn't move it. We moved the toilet further down as it used to be right up by where the shower now is.

I get that a lot dont like the floor... We can't afford to change it and it was one of the things I did like Blush

The tiles I am okay with but agree it looks unfinished.

The wall colour I really hate and agree it should have a more grey undertone to it. I think it looks yellow.

After reading all of these comments I would like either go white walls or really dark bluey grey colour, then get maybe some white and terracota type colour towels to contrast it.

Something radical needs to change! Reading this thread has actually made me hate it more now Sad but that's not a bad thing as it's spurred me on to make changes asap.

Thanks so much. Any other suggestions welcome. I will definately be updating with an 'after' pic once it's finished.
