Name changed as outing.

We have saved so hard for this new bathroom. We have reconfigured it and had everything new. Stripped to bare brick.

I really don't like it :-(

We still want to put a shelf up behind the toilet with some nice things on, and a towel storer where 3 towels will be rolled up at once in there.

Please be honest. Be as brutal as needed. I want to change the paint I think but no idea what to. We need to get a blind. What else can I do to make this the dream bathroom I envisaged Blush

I think it looks lovely, just a bit minimalistic. Just some finishing touches

Don’t rush in, let yourself get used to it for a couple of weeks first and see how you feel then

Sun5hinE · 20/02/2019 19:32

Wow it's lovely, finished to a great standard. It's just like any change you have to get used to it. Get some nice coloured towels, toilet brush, soap dishes, vases, mats etc.
The best thing about cream or white is that you can change the colour of the accessories and it's often so much easier and cheaper.

Surpriseeggsforbreakfast · 20/02/2019 19:33

Paint it dark! It will be gorgeous, lots of inspiration on Instagram. Nothing wrong with it, just a bit plain and white.

Thingsthatgo · 20/02/2019 19:33

I think that it’s the really strong contrast of the dark flooring with the white. Maybe, as other have suggested a mushroom or stone on the walls will balance it out a bit. Or even some contrasting towels on a shelf will even out the misbalance.

GirlOnIt · 20/02/2019 19:34

It's the wall colour for me it just doesn't work with the tiles. I'd pick out one of the colours in the mosaic times near the sink for the walls. Can't see them too well but is darker/mid grey colour?
Then done colour with towels and blind. If you go more grey I think a burnt orange or mustard would look good and warm it up. Maybe some pattern too with towels/bath mat.

Smurfy23 · 20/02/2019 19:34

Agree with others. Its really nice but just looks a bit stark/hotel-ish at the moment. A bit of colour on the walls, a blind or something else to personalise it a bit and it'll be great!

E20mom · 20/02/2019 19:35

It just needs colour on the wall, maybe a soft grey and some styling/accessories . I bet you'll love it then.

Tatapie · 20/02/2019 19:35

Can you take the tiles down to under the windowsill all along that back / bath wall?!

eggsandwich · 20/02/2019 19:35

I think its lovely, I’m shortly having my en suite done and I would be made up if it looks as good as your bathroom, I think you need a bit of colour, start with maybe a patterned blind and matching coloured towels and bath mat it should pull it all together the accessories are so important.

Longtalljosie · 20/02/2019 19:35

I think you need to tile the rest of the walls

Susieque52 · 20/02/2019 19:37

It’s lovely. Colourful towels, plants, a blind and some pictures. Maybe choose a theme - fish, shells etc

TheWernethWife · 20/02/2019 19:37

I'd go dark. Dulux Urban Obsession or F and B Vardo.

Mummyoflittledragon · 20/02/2019 19:38

I think it’s lovely but terribly impractical unfortunately. Voice of experience as I made some of the same mistakes.

If you have small children, the floor will constantly be wet from the bath on all sides and the windows will get water marked.

As for the shower, Dh and I have the exact same sized 1200 x 800 walk in cubicle and a waterfall shower head with accompanying smaller shower attachment. We don’t use it because it’s so impractical even when using the smaller shower head as water goes everywhere.

I hope you’ve paid for bathroom grade flooring. I think you may still need to clear up to water spills avoid it getting ruined. If I were going to spend any money, I’d change the glass and get a door fitted. Failing that several absorbent towelling bath mats.

In response to posters saying tile the floor. This may not even be possible. If it’s an upstairs bathroom, the floor needs backer boarding then tiling to prevent the tiles from cracking. Depending on the thickness of the tiles, they may go above the height of the shower tray, which is low profile and fitted directly onto the floor itself. Backer board is prohibitively expensive. Not to mention the cost of tiles and tiling.

The floor is fine imo. I like the clinical look so I think it’s lovely apart from the tiling. I would have tiled the whole wall.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 20/02/2019 19:38

Is a bit bland. Just needs some colour. A blind?

seven201 · 20/02/2019 19:39

I think the cream walls clash with the tiles. I'd go for a soft sage green personally. Maybe a striped roman blind. Plants if you can find space. Just needs to be a bit more lives in. You'll love it in a couple of weeks.

HexagonalBattenburg · 20/02/2019 19:40

OP you've done exactly the same thing I did once we finally got rid of the 1980s avocado horror we'd lived with for so long last year - I cried cos it wasn't quite how I imagined in my head and it looked so stark and unlived in.

Bright towels (ours are Asda - cheap, cheerful and really quite nice and squishy), and I've got some bright coloured art glass I collect anyway in ours and unfortunately the Paw Patrol assembled along the side of the bath watching you take a shit and I bloody love it now. It's just getting in there and making it "your" bathroom and not the sales brochure's bathroom that you need now. I could quite happily do without Chase being on the fucking case mid pee though but the kids play with them in the bath.

icansingaskittlesrainbow · 20/02/2019 19:40

It’s the floor and walls.
The tiles have grey tones in which don’t go with the dark wood floor, and the cream paint doesn’t go with the grey toned tiles.
You need a white or grey floor, maybe even the grey wood effect and then a white or grey paint.

mogtheexcellent · 20/02/2019 19:42

I am very jealous of your bathroom! Ours is nice but so tiny and no seperate shower.

Just needs a pop of colour. A couple of shelves on wall above loo with rolled towels in a nice colour and a fern or something would do the trick. The wall colour is a bit too peach for me but I like the tiles.

BlueJava · 20/02/2019 19:43

Personally I love the fittings and the walls - and I'd keep them magnolia or white - but I don't like the floor. It's really dark. My bathrooms are entirely white - not for everyone - but does make them seem spacious.

headinhands · 20/02/2019 19:44

It's bloody gorgeous!!

MumUnderTheMoon · 20/02/2019 19:44

It's a perfectly nice suite it just has no character. My bathroom was similar so I went bold on the colour and put up shelves full of lovely bits and practical storage.

grannieanne · 20/02/2019 19:46

It looks gorgeous, you can put your own stamp on it by adding colour at the window and some statement plants/towels/bathmats etc

Maybe consider painting one wall a contrasting colour, or if your budget runs to it, some split face tiles on the wall where the sink is but might be a bit late now the mirror is up... This bathroom is almost identical to my brother's, in fact I thought it was his ...the only difference is he has the splitface tiles :-)

Banjax · 20/02/2019 19:47

Youve got the vanity unit I covet - Is that the Serif unit?

Anyway, yes, just need colour, a couple of wilting plants, a few random tampons and a dog eared copy of Bella. That'll do the trick

patstar · 20/02/2019 19:48

It's a nice size bathroom with all the right things but boooorrring!!!

Make one wall a feature wall, introduce tiles with colour - like tunisian colour tiles - doesn't have to be the whole wall, could just be a picture made of tiles.
Add some plants that like a moist atmosphere and a nice mat

patstar · 20/02/2019 19:49
