Sister is committing benefit fraud

Ellabella989 · 19/02/2019 12:19

My sister has 2 kids and is in a relationship with their father who earns around 50k per year. They all live together in privately rented accommodation (in his name) however my sister pretends to still live with the kids at my parent’s house so she can claim benefits.
They have horrendous debts between them because they live totally outwith their means (2 nice cars on finance, holidays on credit cards, eating out multiple times a week etc. The children are very spoilt with toys and clothes too).

I love my sister but I feel total rage at this situation. I know I should just keep my nose out of it but it all just feels so wrong. AIBU to want to anonymously dob her in?!

Absolutely, birdsandroses. Migrants are actually good news in terms of public spending. Most have already completed an education elsewhere, so no expense there. A significant proportion of them have fairly short stays so no state pension, again no expense. They are generally able bodied - just because if you're thinking of working elsewhere you tend not to have health barriers to seeking work - again, another saving.

Public health and social provision have both been reduced, but it's not because of fraud or migrants. It's a deliberate political decision because we've got a Tory government and that's what they do. It's ideological, not fiscal.

drspouse · 19/02/2019 22:40

Alright for migrants to WORK in the NHS is it?

Itsallpeachyfornow · 19/02/2019 22:40

Good points, I am clearly uneducated in this area and my opinion seemingly incorrect

Handay · 19/02/2019 22:56

Lol no crime in believing what's said. There's a whole machine dedicated to telling us all that it's someone else's fault for decisions that politicians make according to their own ideology.

Migrants really don't cost us a lot though. In fact they make a net contribution for the reasons I said.

The biggest chunk of welfare spending is pensions and care for the elderly. The biggest chunk of NHS spending is on the elderly. As you'd expect and nothing wrong with that. When you're old you get sick and you don't work. This is entirely normal.

What is shitty is people like May etc banging on about immigration when actually they're failing to deal with an entirely predictable issue which is that when people become economical inactive through age that is also the point at which they cost the state more and successive governments, stupid buggers, have made fuck all in the way of contingency plans to allow for this because all they can think about is who is going to get elected on a promise of spending less for the next five years.

nollaig16 · 19/02/2019 23:14

She is cheating, lying and lazy. Most people who can work long hours. There is no reason she can't get a job. She just doesn't want to. No sympathy. I hope she gets found out.

Fairenuff · 19/02/2019 23:18

Well, well, well there's a story about this very subject in the news today.

Sorry for the Daily Fail link

If you don't want to click 'She pleaded guilty at an earlier hearing to a charge of dishonestly failing to notify a change of circumstances. On Tuesday, District Judge Nick Sanders told Axl she 'should be ashamed' as he also told her to perform of 200 hours of unpaid work in the community, the CPS said.'

'Following sentencing, Leanne Kennedy, of Mersey-Cheshire CPS's fraud unit, said: 'This is a substantial amount of money that was paid directly into Ms Pryzbeck's bank account over a number of years.'

It was £12,349 of housing benefit falsely claimed and she has to pay it back. I wonder what she spent it on. She's got lots of tattoos and implants.

@Handay, completely agree.

@Itsallpeachyfornow, thank you for acknowledging you haven’t been given the right information on this. Many of our newspapers purposely mislead on this.

Charlou19 · 20/02/2019 06:41

Great sister you are 👍🏼

Myheartbelongsto · 20/02/2019 07:30

Report her, she is a sponger.

tankie76 · 20/02/2019 08:25

At the lower end, there are loads of hypocrites on here cheating tax credits with hobby jobs and businesses that never turn a profit.

At the other end of the British social class hierarchy, the likes Jacob Rees Mogg and his privileged ilk are allowed to take the piss.

Come on tankie, try and sound a bit more xenophobic. I really don't think you're making an effort.

sunshinelollipopsrainbows · 20/02/2019 09:43

I wouldn't, but not because she's my sister but because of the potential repercussions for her kids in the future with the debt they also have. My auntie and uncle did the same for years, and I mean YEARS. The truth caught up with them in the end and they had to pay back a large sum.

Piewife · 20/02/2019 09:53

YANBU

If this was my sister committing benefit fraud I'd speak to her about it and try to persuade her to stop, but if she didn't I'd absolutely report it. Also I'd have no problem dropping the parents in it when they've been knowingly assisting the fraud.

Why should everyone else pay their taxes for her and her partner to live it up?

BoringPerson · 20/02/2019 10:01

Can't you persuade your parents to stop facilitating the fraud.

I'd do everything I could to stop it - I think I'd report it but sure.

I HATE people who commit fraud in this way. It's greedy and low. There are genuine claimants that NEED the money.

paslamer · 20/02/2019 10:39

You should report her. I'm disgusted by those who say don't.
Yesterday at work I had a man in tears. He'd been spotted stealing sugar from the coffee machine, and when challenged he said he'd been sanctioned and hadn't eaten for two days. We referred him to a food bank. And your sister is taking the piss with her holidays and meals out and treats.
Your mother is a disgrace too for enabling her. No way on earth would my family have colluded in something like this - my family aren't dishonest.

LoisWilkerson1 · 20/02/2019 13:18

If you don't want to do it, tell a few people and I bet one of them reports her. It's not fair that genuine claimants are visiting foodbanks while she's using the money for treats. That benefit cheats don't cost as much as multimillion tax dodgers is irrelevant, by that logic we should all do it then. I'd like to see them both dealt with tbh.
