Hi all, I have a neighbour and a friend (although not a close friend as such). A year or so ago she claimed her and her partner were completely broke, barely surviving until pay day every month. They have 4 children, she is a SAHM and her partner works.

So fast forward to now, and they seem to be in a much better financial situation. Which is brilliant for them but they are eating out 4-5 nights a week, go out on an expensive days out with the children every week, new clothes, new shoes (designer), 2 cars, expensive perfume, the kids have everything, holidays etc. She is also the type of person who posts all this on her social media accounts so we all know about it. It just seems very bizarre. I know circumstances change but this seems extreme. Her partner hasn’t changed jobs as far as I’m aware. Like I say, she’s the type of person who posts absolutely everything about her day on social
Media and I am certain I would of heard about it.

Their rent is most likely in the region of £700-£900 pcm based on the other houses on the street.

She’s not a close enough friend to really tlak about it but odd things do come up.

Now really this is has nothing to do with me. But I am wondering if they are either hideously in debt, drug dealers (joking) or its something else. A little while ago they temporarily split up, she kicked him out, he’d to claim benefits, changed the tenancy. They were apart for about 4 months. So I am wondering if she’s still claiming as a single parent getting housing and council tax benefit so they have all this extra cash? He is definitely living there though. It just seems bizarre!

I’m just baffled.

No, you're just a gf nosy person.

Alexandra2018 · 17/02/2019 21:59

Mind your own business
What a miserable post
Hide her on Facebook your torturing yourself stalking her!

WinterfellWench · 17/02/2019 22:00

Definitely not jealous 😂 Home owner here with a mortgage half the amount of the average rent price on this road. In a comfortable financial position but we are more sensible.

GOOD FOR YOU! 👍👍👍👍👍

JKCR2017 · 17/02/2019 22:01

Everything*

I understand that she wouldn’t have much money on benefits. But a single mum
On benefits would get all her rent and council tax paid saving probably £1000 a month here (I have been a single Mum on benefits I may add) and her partner bringing in a wage.. who knows 🤷‍♀️

I would assume inheritance.

carrotflinger · 17/02/2019 22:02

Inheritance
Moderate lottery win
She's started working part-time as a sex worker

None of your business.

WinterfellWench · 17/02/2019 22:02

You are hilariously obsessed with this woman. And you say you're not jealous? Do us a favour!

Dreamzcancometrue · 17/02/2019 22:02

Maybe she is an avon lady on the sly Grin

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 17/02/2019 22:04

WinterfellWench, OH! Yes! That does sound familiar because we have watched GOT too! Is she one of the prostitutes? I have not seen GOT in a long time. Still waiting for the last season.

LellyMcKelly · 17/02/2019 22:06

Maybe they’ve made their fortune selling clothes, shoes (designer) and perfume.

Twotome · 17/02/2019 22:06

Agree with @WarpedGalaxy - knew you was going to say benefit fraud before you got to it.

It could well be, but not much you can do about it. It irks me too though, even though it doesn't directly affect me.

HaudYerWheeshtYaWeeBellend · 17/02/2019 22:10

Why would you even care?

It couldn’t be for a number of reasons, dent management plan, employment bonus , home business, inheritance or it could be something illegal but no one on here can possibly advise you of why your neighbour has extra takeaways and family day outs Confused

Zoflorabore · 17/02/2019 22:12

I've been a single mum on benefits when ds
was a toddler and he's almost 16 but we did get the rent/council tax paid in full at that time so hypothetically she could be "saving" £700-£900 a month plus benefits for 4 children which would be a few hundred a week and then she would still have her partners wage.
However, she is unlikely to admit this so you will probably never know op.

If she was doing this then her previously modest lifestyle would be very easy to improve by having over £1000 a month to throw at it.
Who knows?
I don't understand people who post the ins and outs of a cat's arse on fb though. Can't bare bragging.

RomanyQueen1 · 17/02/2019 22:12

You'd have to be a bit stupid to publicise all that if you being fraudulent.
Still it's no more unusual than any other Sunday night benefit bashing thread.

MirandaGoshawk · 17/02/2019 22:14

I would assume inheritance too.

HerRoyalNotness · 17/02/2019 22:15

Just be glad their life has improved.

PaintingOwls · 17/02/2019 22:20

Maybe one of them found out that they're dying and took out a massive loan?

Drogosnextwife · 17/02/2019 22:21

Or you could just focus on your own life and keep your nose out. HTH

Chickenwings85 · 17/02/2019 22:22

You could let her get on with her life and enjoy this extra money she has while you get on with your life and try to stop caring as much.
You sound very jealous to be honest.

user1471426142 · 17/02/2019 22:23

She could be getting lots of freebies if she’s blogging heavily on social media. I’ve been amazed at what some of my friends have had (ranging from free holidays to cars at the top end). That lifestyle switch is too big to be benefit fraud. They’ve come into some money somewhere along the line and are having a bit of a splurge.

Bluntness100 · 17/02/2019 22:25

Seriously honey , you need to get a life, I mean that sincerely.

KissHerYouBrilliantFool · 17/02/2019 22:27

User has a good point about it perhaps being freebies if she's blogging and has lots of Instagram followers. A friend of mine is a successful Instamum/blogger in Australia and she gets given so many things for free; a car, holidays, clothes for her and her DC, beauty products, the list is endless.

smartcarnotsosmartdriver · 17/02/2019 22:27

I won money. People thought I was dodgy, bought a car, bought a house, went on awesome holidays. I didn't post most of this online and didn't tell anybody I'd won money. It wasn't millions but it changed our lives. I let them wonder.

Pinkyyy · 17/02/2019 22:29

Why am I the only one who strongly suspects they're involved in selling drugs?

WinterfellWench · 17/02/2019 22:31

MissLanesAmericanCousin 'Winterfell' is the ancestral castle and seat of power of House Stark and is considered to be the capital of the north in Game of Thrones. Smile
