Suspicious over over neighbours new found money!!

Hi all, I have a neighbour and a friend (although not a close friend as such). A year or so ago she claimed her and her partner were completely broke, barely surviving until pay day every month. They have 4 children, she is a SAHM and her partner works.

So fast forward to now, and they seem to be in a much better financial situation. Which is brilliant for them but they are eating out 4-5 nights a week, go out on an expensive days out with the children every week, new clothes, new shoes (designer), 2 cars, expensive perfume, the kids have everything, holidays etc. She is also the type of person who posts all this on her social media accounts so we all know about it. It just seems very bizarre. I know circumstances change but this seems extreme. Her partner hasn’t changed jobs as far as I’m aware. Like I say, she’s the type of person who posts absolutely everything about her day on social
Media and I am certain I would of heard about it.

Their rent is most likely in the region of £700-£900 pcm based on the other houses on the street.

She’s not a close enough friend to really tlak about it but odd things do come up.

Now really this is has nothing to do with me. But I am wondering if they are either hideously in debt, drug dealers (joking) or its something else. A little while ago they temporarily split up, she kicked him out, he’d to claim benefits, changed the tenancy. They were apart for about 4 months. So I am wondering if she’s still claiming as a single parent getting housing and council tax benefit so they have all this extra cash? He is definitely living there though. It just seems bizarre!

I’m just baffled.

Twenty quid says she's selling her knickers online.

iklboo · 17/02/2019 21:29

Maybe she's selling all the free goats she's getting.

Mumshappy · 17/02/2019 21:29

Theyve won some money or got an inheritance. Extra benefits wouldnt cover those expenses . Why does it matter?

WolfhoundsofLove · 17/02/2019 21:29

Mind your own business you nosy mare.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 17/02/2019 21:32

How on Earth do you know what perfume they use and if it's expensive?

I manage to keep my perfume arrangements from my neighbours.

BarbaraofSevillle · 17/02/2019 21:34

Maybe they were in debt and they've paid it all off so have an extra few hundred a month to spend?

Maybe they've learnt to budget and follow the moneysavingexpert way, so their money goes further? That can make a difference of hundreds of pounds a month over just buying the first thing you see without doing research and looking for discount codes. Plus all the other tricks and tips to reduce your basic bills, increase your income etc.

Inheritence?

Insurance payout for accident.

Receiving benefits that they didn't realise they were entitled to?

She works from home so appears to be a SAHM but in reality is an online PA, matched betting champion, professional gambler, etc etc.

Or while he does approximately the same job for the same firm, he's been promoted so is a team leader and hence paid more.

Combination of some of the above?

There's so many factors that could be in play that you would have no idea about.

Ainba · 17/02/2019 21:35

I manage to keep my perfume arrangements from my neighbours.

OP is probably looking in with binoculars!

IDoN0tCare · 17/02/2019 21:36

You remind of the person who suspiciously asked my DH where he got all the money, when he was paying the artists for their part in a charity show. It was part of his life insurance, which they paid out because he was dying.

How about you keep your nose out?

mistermagpie · 17/02/2019 21:36

What's it got to do with you?

kateandme · 17/02/2019 21:36

haha you think being on benefits people buy this stuff!wow.take a look at all the people who are living on benefits yes.

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 17/02/2019 21:37

inheritance or lottery win is my guess. Benefit fraud wouldn't cover all that.

Cremeeggsareforever · 17/02/2019 21:37

How nosey of you :S

WhatTheNightBrings · 17/02/2019 21:39

You do realise even if they were committing benefit fraud, they'll still not be able to afford to do all that above board, do you? No matter what you read in the Daily Mail.

KissHerYouBrilliantFool · 17/02/2019 21:42

Sounds like they've had a lottery win or some other sort of windfall? Or perhaps they've started a home based business?

Crinkle77 · 17/02/2019 21:43

Don't really see why it's any of your business.

Llioed · 17/02/2019 21:43

Not that it is any of our business or yours, OP, but I would probably guess matched betting.
If it is money that is being obtained fraudulently then I feel sorry for the children Sad however, we won’t know so best keep out of it, eh?

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 17/02/2019 21:46

You remind me of that nosy and insufferable neighbour, Gladys Kravitz, on Bewitched. Mind your own business, for Christ sake!

WinterfellWench · 17/02/2019 21:47

WOW! Mind your own business! Hmm

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 17/02/2019 21:47

Sold a kidney (or a few kidneys if there;s 6 of them) You could check for tell tale scarring when she's showing off her holiday pics on FB.

"Oooh so you've all had Liposuction..................."

WarpedGalaxy · 17/02/2019 21:49

Took you many words and lines before you actually used the word ‘benefits’ but somehow I knew before I even opened up the thread. You came here looking for people to pile on this friend-not-friend of yours and her benefit-frauding ways but, unfortunately for you and unlike you, we’re not all spiteful, envious, judgmental twats and don’t immediately jump to the worst possible conclusion when people we know seem to be doing well for themselves.

SpamChaudFroid · 17/02/2019 21:49

I think it's bizarre that you notice when your neighbours have new shoes. I've never paid any attention to my neighbours footwear, not even a passing glance. Hmm

MissLanesAmericanCousin · 17/02/2019 21:53

WinterfellWench, totally off subject, but is your username a play on the Winterfell Witch on the first episode of Rosemary and Thyme? Which I have the whole DVD set of, btw! Grin

JKCR2017 · 17/02/2019 21:55

Definitely not jealous 😂 Home owner here with a mortgage half the amount of the average rent price on this road. In a comfortable financial position but we are more sensible.

Like I said she is the type of person who posts everything on Facebook//instagram so that’s how I know. Photos of absolutely everything she buys and gets up to, so that’s why I think it’s strange.

No Miss Lane. My name is taken from 'Game of Thrones.' Smile

JKCR2017 · 17/02/2019 21:57

She posts photos of every single thing she buys on Facebook and Instagram! Ebehtjng down to the clothes she buys for her kids. It’s bizarre.
