My son is 15 I'm a single mum, he has little contact with his father although they do have an "ok" relatiinship. My son has been low, really argumentative, tired.... the usual teen stuff I suppose.
But last Friday he came home drunk and he told me he had been drinking.... he told me two ciders.... I didn't tell him off because he has told me the truth. Tonight he has come home with really large pupils and looking really drunk...,. I'm worried my coolness last week (he is 15 and I was drinking at 14) has given him the green light to do this every Friday .... what should I do... ground him..... won't that just make him rebel and do even more.... I seem to have lost my way in knowing how to handle this ..,, it's taken me by surprise a bit and wasn't prepared for seeing my boy properly drunk and swaying 😕😒

Tonight he has come home with really large pupils and looking really drunk.

He's not drunk, he's stoned

FiveRedBricks · 15/02/2019 22:12

Yeah deffo not just drunk. He's high as a freaking kite.

FiveRedBricks · 15/02/2019 22:12

High as a kite

JustThe2OfUsMK · 15/02/2019 22:14

Yeh it sounds like it may not be just drink

DorothyZbornak · 15/02/2019 22:42

He's had more than cider with Rosie.

Newadventure · 15/02/2019 22:45

Yep high. How is he acting?? Is he jittery?
Does he seem lucid or is he obviously drunk? Might be a combination but if he were just high (on drugs) you wouldnt say he was 'drunk'.. large pupils indicate some sort of stimulant. If he were stoned He would have glazed eyes, small pupils and wouldnt be "staggering"
There won't be much use talking to him now so have a chat in the morning.
Sorry you have to see him like this Sad

Nononoandno · 15/02/2019 23:10

His pupils were large, he's unconscious..... I try to wake him every 20 mins... he rouses enough to have water Then back to sleep ... I thinks it's just booze x

About 20 mins after he came home, I found him asleep on his bed...I called the mum of one of his friends to say hes unconscious I need to know if he's had anything other than booze... his friend swore to his mum it's just booze, so glad I only had one child right now! 😭🙈 from 14 it's nothing but worry and stress

Myshinynewname · 15/02/2019 23:21

I don’t think just alcohol alone causes large pupils.

Nononoandno · 15/02/2019 23:23

He's had 6 friends requests pop up on his phone in the last ten mins all from girls.... god knows what's gone on while he been out tonight 🤔

Whattsop · 15/02/2019 23:24

Large pupils: drugs.

Sorry OP.

woodlands01 · 15/02/2019 23:24

Weed - hopefully he'll sleep it off. I'd maybe sleep outside his room with door open (speaking from experience).

woodlands01 · 15/02/2019 23:27

The messages will be checking he is OK because they are worried

BlueMerchant · 15/02/2019 23:39

I don't personally believe that he was telling

you the truth last Friday. You we're very trusting of him when you believed he'd had 2 but how many 15yr old lads would stop at two ciders ? and you say he appeared drunk so I'm thinking it was a few more! He got away with it last week so has gone one further and had a real binge drinking session this week. I'd be talking to him and laying out some rules and consequences in the morning and we'd be telling his Dad too.

Aquamarine1029 · 15/02/2019 23:58

Take the blinders off, op. This is not just booze.

Lalliella · 16/02/2019 00:08

Get real OP, it’s not just booze, it’s drugs. You need to face facts and tackle it. Of course his friend is going to lie to his mum about it not being drugs, just like your DS is lying to you. I’m sorry.

BoringPerson · 16/02/2019 00:12

If he swears it's not drugs then tell him that should mean he won't mind taking a drug test. 😏

They are really cheap and available from Amazon.

JockTamsonsBairns · 16/02/2019 00:15

Weed does not give large pupils!? More like MDMA or speed.

user1473878824 · 16/02/2019 00:20

OP, I was never that drunk but it was always “I’ve only had two Bacardi Breezers” when the truth was god knows how much. The pupils thing is not booze.

Treble9 · 16/02/2019 00:23

Alcohol consumption does cause dilated pupils, sometimes quite large. Sounds like he's had one too many. He's not unconscious, he's asleep. Let him sleep it off & ensure he is on his side and not able to roll onto his back. If he is completely unrousable or unmanageable then consider taking him to ED.
Other drug use would likely manifest itself with other symptoms.

MyKingdomForBrie · 16/02/2019 00:25

I agree alcohol doesn't enlarge pupils as far as I know.. of course they'll lie about it especially if they're scared.

MyKingdomForBrie · 16/02/2019 00:26

Oh x-post with treble! Noted for future!

CommanderDaisy · 16/02/2019 00:28

Alcohol does not give you large pupils. End of. It'll be an amphetamine (speed) based drug or MDMA.
And kids tend to have form for not telling their parents about these things, so I'm not surprised you got a flat denial when you called the friends Mum and she asked her son.

Treble9 · 16/02/2019 00:29

Alcohol absolutely DOES lead to enlarged pupils.

OP, I would try to have a conversation with him tomorrow to find out the root cause of his drinking. It may simply be teenage experimentation. It may also be as a result of something else.

MMM3 · 16/02/2019 00:33

Amphetamines cause constricted pupils. Any of the depressants, including alcohol, can cause enlarged pupils.

Seconding the Amazon drug test though.
