I don't know whether I should call 111

My husband suffers from diverticular, and since last night he has had a temperature, which seems high when I touch him (don't have a thermometer) paracetamol hasn't worked his had them 4hourly since last night. He has had black tarry diahorea which on googling sounds like some sort of bleeding.

He's not very steady on his feet and has been using me to support him to the loo.

Should I call 111 or wait to see if he gets better or worse?

A and e or 999.

Hope 111 have sorted you out OP

DameIfYouDo · 14/02/2019 17:14

Last time I couldn't walk, I ended up in a coma for 2 weeks, so that's serious shit.

HJWT · 14/02/2019 17:15

Hope he is ok @Littleraindrop15 xxx

Orange6904 · 14/02/2019 17:32

With the temp as well yeah I'd say get straight in, hope he is okay.

Littleraindrop15 · 14/02/2019 17:46

Hi

Sorry for not updating sooner has been a bit crazy..

So his temp is at 40.6, and the paramedic came by car so he had to call a van out and we are on our way to the hospital.

Thank you so so much for getting me to call 111. Will let you all know the verdict once he's seen. Thank you all once again!!

Glad you are on your way to hospital.

ohfourfoxache · 14/02/2019 18:46

I’m so glad you’re on way now x

DanielRicciardosSmile · 14/02/2019 18:50

Absolutely correct thing to do getting him to hospital. DH was in hospital a few years ago and there was a guy in the opposite bed with diverticulitis and he was very ill poor sod, ended up in HDU if I remember rightly.

abbsisspartacus · 14/02/2019 18:51

Good luck Flowers

yorkshirecountrylass · 14/02/2019 18:53

Tbh I wouldn't bother with 111 if he's unsteady on his feet and confused with black tarry stools get him to ED asap

Imustbemad00 · 14/02/2019 18:53

Glad to see your update. Just read the thread now. I would of advised a&e as I have a history of bowel disease, a different kind, but still know the dangers.

My mum has recently been diagnosed with the same as your husband.

ShrinkWrap · 14/02/2019 18:55

Glad you’re on the way to hospital. But seriously no one should be asking the internet whether they should call 111. If you have concerns, just call them. They are there to filter what is serious and needs urgent attention and what is not...

westendshits · 14/02/2019 18:57

Yes was definitely a 999 job! Glad you got there.

Nicecupofcoco · 14/02/2019 19:03

Hope all OK op x

bluetheskyis · 14/02/2019 19:05

The answer is ALWAYS call 111! Always! It’s not like calling 999, they are there for the less serious things ( which could be serious in the end)

SirVixofVixHall · 14/02/2019 19:44

Oh op, so glad you are in good hands now.

BlueSuffragette · 14/02/2019 19:47

Glad you got the help. Good luck Flowers

FuckCalmRhageOn · 14/02/2019 19:54

Sending best wishes to your dh. It's awfully frightening when those we love are unwell

watsmyname · 14/02/2019 20:16

I hope all is getting better

Littleraindrop15 · 14/02/2019 20:49

Hi all thanks for your warm wishes.. He's fallen asleep whilst we wait for blood test results to come back and doctors.

We've seen a few nurses but no doctor yet and we are in a bay in majors. Seems like a busy night over here.

His temp is 38.8 so that's a relief still high but better than 40.6 and has been given some fluids and antisickness medication.

I didn't call 999 or 111 as I thought it was just the flu or a bug but then started doubting myself and he bless him kept saying no I'm fine don't worry which made me worry even more. I'm so glad I did call as if I left it he would of eventually passed out from his temp being so high.

It is so hard to judge someone who is ill as you can't be sure if they are very ill or just flu/cold/bug. Will hopefully update you all later once he has seen the doctor and news of what is going on.

I’m so glad that you sought medical help, OP, and that DH is receiving treatment. Sending very best wishes for a swift recovery Flowers

SpanielEars070 · 14/02/2019 20:56

Well done OP for getting him sorted out so quickly. Hope he's on the mend soon.

HollowTalk · 14/02/2019 20:57

I'm really glad he's in hospital now. Hope everything is OK.

Littleraindrop15 · 14/02/2019 22:00

Just seen the doctor he is being admitted in as his blood work shows a lot of inflammatory markers and they want to make sure he hasn't got inflammatory bowel disease on top of a potentially bleeding and infected diverticular along with lots of antibiotics.
