I don't know whether I should call 111

My husband suffers from diverticular, and since last night he has had a temperature, which seems high when I touch him (don't have a thermometer) paracetamol hasn't worked his had them 4hourly since last night. He has had black tarry diahorea which on googling sounds like some sort of bleeding.

He's not very steady on his feet and has been using me to support him to the loo.

Should I call 111 or wait to see if he gets better or worse?

Hope he will be in a hospital soon OP, it sounds frightening for you.

Passing4Human · 14/02/2019 16:32

I would go to A&E. It could be a bad flare up of the diverticulitis, but you just can't risk waiting if someone seems weak and confused. It needs to be checked out.

theDudesmummy · 14/02/2019 16:33

Black tarry stools indicate bleeding, potentaily serious. You need to go to A and E now. (I am a doctor)

LucyAutumn · 14/02/2019 16:33

Please go straight to A&E

endofthelinefinally · 14/02/2019 16:34

Black tarry stools and not on iron means internal bleeding.
That warrants 999.
If he is weak and confused he needs urgent medical attention.

cjt110 · 14/02/2019 16:36

Please update us... when you can obviously. Wishing you and your DH the best.

Remember to take note of any medications he is on and grab your bag, purse and phone charger.

limpbizkit · 14/02/2019 16:37

Forget 111 A&E or 999

LuckyLou7 · 14/02/2019 16:37

Another vote for A&E asap. 111 will assess and come to the same conclusion but by calling them, you are delaying care for DH.

IShitGlitter · 14/02/2019 16:37

I would be ringing 999

tryingtoadvise · 14/02/2019 16:38

999

cjt110 · 14/02/2019 16:39

Actually, yes I revise my suggestion of 111. or even 999.

Get him to A&E.

When DS (aged 3 at the time) fell 6ft from a climbing frame and onto his neck/head it took the ambulance 40 mins to get to him. Frustrating in our instance (not the ambulance crews fault in the slightest) but potentially dangerous for your DH.

BlytheofWindyWillows · 14/02/2019 16:39

I'd go straight to A&E. Hope he's ok OP.

Steamedbadger · 14/02/2019 16:42

A&E and stop fannying about on Mumsnet (hope you already have)

ragmayo · 14/02/2019 16:44

Definitely call, hope all goes well

Pinkblanket · 14/02/2019 16:46

A and e. My mum had peritonitis and sepsis as a result of diverticulitis.

ChakiraChakra · 14/02/2019 16:49

Hope you're either on the phone or on your way to hospital. Fwiw I'm in the go straight to A&E, the stools and confusion would both be very concerning to me.

SirVixofVixHall · 14/02/2019 16:52

A and E, he sounds really unwell.

dashitauntagatha · 14/02/2019 16:55

Go to A&E - he sounds sick. Black stools can mean an acute upper GI bleed so potentially life threatening. Fever and confusion sounds like a severe infection. Don't ever stop to ask mumsnet again!!

thegreylady · 14/02/2019 16:56

999 when my dh had similar symptoms it was a gastric erosion causing a bleed. He needed a blood transfusion and was in hospital for about a week.

SpanielEars070 · 14/02/2019 16:56

Jesus, A & E in the car now or 999. Please don't call 111!!

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 14/02/2019 16:57

He sounds quite poorly, I'd skip 111 and call an ambulance with those symptoms. Hope he's on the mend soon.

PinkiOcelot · 14/02/2019 16:58

Hope you’re enroute to hospital OP.

fulltimeworkingmotherof4 · 14/02/2019 17:10

Hope he's ok op. I have diverticular disease and flare ups are horrible

Dimedollar · 14/02/2019 17:13

I would go straight to 999 or a&e with those symptoms. Hope he's ok op.

DameIfYouDo · 14/02/2019 17:13

999 not 111.
No idea what diverticular is.
