Having dinner at an amazing restaurant with a friend

EsmeeMerlin · 13/02/2019 17:43

My partner is working 12-9 so we will try and have a meal deal together and a film on Saturday night when the kids are in bed.

I do try and do a little something for him, so will do him a special packed lunch filled with his favourite things and with some valentines chocolates. Will also put his card in it for him to look at when he is at work.

It’s not for everyone but I do actually like Valentine’s Day.

IncrediblySadToo · 13/02/2019 17:55

Tillytoodles I am so sorry to hear about your DH. I’ll be thinking of you tomorrow 🌷

...and you too Madrose. 💐

Whoever decided to hold the parents evenings needs shooting. THEY might not celebrate, but it’s inconsiderate not to think of the teachers or the parents that would like to.

I had all the years of a dozen red roses & chocolates, teddy bears etc being delivered to work 🌹 Expensive dinners out 🍾🥂. Sexy lingerie etc and I’m happy I have those memories, but I’m happy to stay home these days. We enjoy a light grown up picnic type dinner, lots of bubbles and 🤞🏼 sleeping children 😉

I really don’t get the sneery & superior posts. Take the time out to do something nice or don’t, whatever, but it really doesn’t make you or your relationship any better/deeper/more ‘special’ than anyone else’s. It’s not like it’s either or - valentines OR 364 other days. Most of us manage both...🤷🏻‍♀️

cinnamon9 · 13/02/2019 18:00

Looking forward to a lovely dinner in a posh restaurant and some bubbly. I agree it's v commercial, but it's our first V-day as newly weds so we are making an effort!

Procrastination4 · 13/02/2019 18:06

Nothing-we don’t bother with it even though we got engaged on Valentine’s Day. We did the Valentines cards etc when younger but now I prefer decent presents and really nice meals for my birthday and Christmas! Besides, it’s usually during a working week so it doesn’t bother me not to do anything. I don’t celebrate “Women’s Christmas either though, as that happens just before returning to work after Christmas. (By the way, I’m not judging people who celebrate it!)

Procrastination4 · 13/02/2019 18:08

Celebrate Valentine’s Day, I mean. I think “Women’s Christmas” might be more of a thing here in Ireland (the worst kind of “party night” with poor food and worse entertainment Grin)

ghostyslovesheets · 13/02/2019 18:11

getting drunk and singing to my many cats - as usual

Procrastination4 · 13/02/2019 18:13

Oh Tillytoodles that is so sad. Flowers

LordPickle · 13/02/2019 18:20

I'm drinking some Prosecco on my own after my DS goes to bed. My DH sent me flowers today (white roses) because he works away during the week.

I don't understand the white roses. They seem like a wedding flower.

origamiunicorn · 13/02/2019 18:21

Work and a nice meal at home. Wouldn't want it any other way, except maybe the work bit. Grin

AngeloMysterioso · 13/02/2019 18:22

Telling my DH I’m pregnant Grin

DurhamDurham · 13/02/2019 18:25

We're having a M&S meal deal and judging by the queues in there today I think a lot of people are doing the same thing.
In our defence of not doing anything more exciting we will be babysitting our seven month old granddaughter 😀

fussychica · 13/02/2019 18:27

Going up to London for the day to see an exhibition at Tate Britain. Not because it's Valentine's but because it's supposed to be the nicest day of the week, weatherwise.

FrenchyQ · 13/02/2019 18:32

Nothing....its daughters birthday today so that always overshadows valentines day

DuchessofManchester · 13/02/2019 18:33

We're both working but got a lovely steak dinner planned with a box of milk tray afterwards. Lots of wine /prosecco Romantic film then an early night Wink. We get each other cards and a small gift (I'm secretly hoping for gin!)

LakieLady · 13/02/2019 18:39

Fuck all. We're both just starting to recover from a 2nd bout of flu in 3-4 weeks and feel like shit. Early night for us, probably in separate rooms as DP has a hacking cough that could wake the dead.

coffeeagogo · 13/02/2019 18:43

We are on holiday and DH has booked us a vineyard tour with lunch and the grandparents are having the kids - quite excited as we usually don't bother doing anything

tomhazard · 13/02/2019 18:48

I'm a teacher and it's year 7 parents evening so I've got a date with about 50 sets of parents Grin
DH has just admitted he hasn't bothered to get me a card either so it'll be passing me by entirely !

soulrider · 13/02/2019 18:51

I normally go swimming, the pool is always wonderfully empty on Valentine's day Grin

fourfuckssake4 · 13/02/2019 19:12

Both going to funerals at opposite end of the country, will have time to have breakfast together at the airport together Smile

fezzesarecool · 13/02/2019 19:27

I’ve got a cold so we’re rescheduling for Saturday

Dd wants to make cupcakes and do a at home party type thing, then kids in bed early and a nice dinner and film for us Oh’s present is tickets for us to have a real date the week after

funkylittleboatrace · 13/02/2019 19:28

Parents evening then Waitrose meal deal which we will eat while binge watching the Sinner.

blindsighted · 13/02/2019 19:29

I've left my abusive partner today so I will be returning his gift and treating myself to a 4D scan to see my little one as a treat for myself x

YouSayPotatoesISayVodka · 13/02/2019 19:46

I’m in a LDR and we don’t see each other midweek but have sent card and present to each other off of our respective amazon wish lists.

To sum up, bugger all basically.

Peregrane · 13/02/2019 19:54

@tillytoodles1 and @madrose, I am so sorry for your losses.

I’ll be looking after two small children. Might give DH a kiss when he gets home late at night from his commute. I’ll also get him a UNICEF gift: market.unicef.org.uk/valentines-day-gifts/
