To burn the builders sign outside my house

pepperjack · 13/02/2019 11:34

After not being seen for the best part of 3 weeks except to move a few tiles around the floor, he promised me last night that he would be here first thing.
I'm so glad I got out of bed at 7.30
Wasting my time.
My son is away this week, I don't need to get up, could have gone on holiday, but they said they'd be here.
So I'm going outside to destroy his sign

What do you mean, his sign?

PBo83 · 13/02/2019 11:37

Whether or not you are unreasonable here isn't really the question.

I would recommend against damaging anything though as it could come back to bite you.

By all means take it down/hide it though so they're not getting the advertising.

pepperjack · 13/02/2019 11:38

His advertising sign

OP posts:
GreatDuckCookery6211 · 13/02/2019 11:41

Have you rang him?

DeathBySnuSnu · 13/02/2019 11:43

I would write, "are shit" in big letters underneath the company name. (Or just take it down lol). I'm joking but I do feel for you Flowers

ReaganSomerset · 13/02/2019 11:43

I'd take it down perhaps but not damage it. Or you could erect your own sign that says 'useless cowboy' and points to his sign?

ReaganSomerset · 13/02/2019 11:44

Of course you could potentially be sued for libel...

Could just write 'let me down today' as that is indisputable.

pepperjack · 13/02/2019 11:44

Rang him? To listen to more excuses?

OP posts:
ReaganSomerset · 13/02/2019 11:45

Or 'disappointed' in case some people view 'let me down' as an innuendo somehow...

RestingBitchFaced · 13/02/2019 11:46

Yes ring him! Tell him he better be on his way or not to fucking bother at all, then find someone else

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 13/02/2019 11:47

Yes I would ring him and ask why he’d let me down again.

JassyRadlett · 13/02/2019 11:48

You need to be the most annoying person in his life, even if you’re just hearing more excuses. He will have other clients chasing him every day he doesn’t show up. If you aren’t one of them you’ll be the one it’s easy to put off another day. You need to be polite but persistent.

I’m sorry, I know it’s crap and stressful.

Aprilshowersarecomingsoon · 13/02/2019 11:49

Draw a cowboy underneath?

MumW · 13/02/2019 11:51

I'd be ringing every half hour until I got a response.
Definitely take his advertising board down, but don't destroy it.

I can't though Library
That's the problem

OP posts:
BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 13/02/2019 11:57

You could attach a sign to his saying 'failed to turn up for x weeks', then send him a photo of it.

NannyRed · 13/02/2019 11:59

Could just write 'let me down today' as that is indisputable. great advice from @ReaganSumerset.

The squeaky wheel ges the oil, keep mithering him until you are his priority. Don’t employ him again.

PBo83 · 13/02/2019 12:07

The squeaky wheel ges the oil

I never really got this expression. I understand (and agree with) your point but surely, if a wheel isn't squeaking, it doesn't actually need the oil anyway.

Sorry...I digress!

katseyes7 · 13/02/2019 12:10

l'd keep ringing him til you get a response. l wouldn't burn the sign, though. That's technically arson.

werideatdawn · 13/02/2019 12:11

Okay....

pepperjack · 13/02/2019 12:12

I'm not actually going to burn the sign

OP posts:
Rollerbird · 13/02/2019 12:13

We had the same last year.
Took it down and they took it away a couple of days later, and didn't mention anything!
Why would you advertise their crap service

cjt110 · 13/02/2019 12:21

I'm not actually going to burn the sign Well... that's an anticlimax. And a very short thread.

Merchantgirl · 13/02/2019 12:22

I did something similar once to a let tings agents board! They had let the flat upstairs and left the board there for months attached to my gate (blocking my view). I rang them to ask them to take it down and they were really rude, bordering on abusive to me so I stuck a sign on it saying they put fake boards up or something, I can't remember the exact wording then left it there. And I also reported it to the council as local byelaws state you can only leave a board up for 14 days after a let is agreed.

It was soon removed! 😈
