to assume my new neighbour is a massive racist?

New neighbours over the road moved in over the weekend.

They have 3 vehicles, one car each and a sports car.

The sports car has what can only be a personalised number plate reading XXXX KKK (obvs not actually XXXX but a combination of letters and numbers that would definitely be one you'd have to pay for).

So... Why would you pay for a number plate with KKK on? DP thinks I'm being judgemental and maybe it was the only one with the first part that they wanted so they overlooked the ending but surely nobody would do that? I mean it's like having a number plate reading N4ZI - you just wouldn't would you?

I don’t get why people even have personalised plates. I find them a little tacky, tbh

misses point of thread

Itsyersel · 11/02/2019 16:29

Tbh OP best thing that you can do is not speak to them ever....As you sound like a curtain twitching arsehole!
Maybe your the Racist for immediately assuming KKK stands for what you think...
Maybe your neighbours are normal.and have just never realised...I hope they see this thread and call you out on your bullshit!

MashedSpud · 11/02/2019 16:30

If you see a bunch of people dressed in sheets and it’s not Halloween, you’re correct.

Aeroflotgirl · 11/02/2019 16:31

Yabvvvu, it might not be a personalised plate, I would totally not notice if I bought a car until with a plate like that, until too late.

MyBreadIsEggy · 11/02/2019 16:32

As others said, they might just be a bit thick Hmm I know a few people (my sister being one of them) who wouldn’t have a clue what the KKK were if a member smacked them in the face with a burning cross 🤦🏻‍♀️

wizzywig · 11/02/2019 16:32

Arent the rooneys kids names all starting with k? Do you live next door to them?

stevie69 · 11/02/2019 16:34

Because others are not you, I guess.

HeadsDownThumbsUpEveryone · 11/02/2019 16:42

I cannot believe someone's first thought upon seeing a personalised number plate ending KKK would be to assume that their new neighbours were Racist!

It could be their initials.
It could be the plate that came with the car.
it could be they wanted the personalised plate because the first part is relevant.
It could be the initials of their children or their dogs.

But no you automatically assumed it was done deliberately because they are racists, its mind boggling.

You know literally less than 5 things about these people and have not yet spoken to them and you have already decided and informed the internet that they are both racist. You sound like a horrible person to live next to and you really need to stop being so judgemental.

Parthenope · 11/02/2019 16:42

Well, you have the choice between (1) 'likely white supremacists, or fellow travellers, or people who think that a number plate that uses a well-known acronym for a notorious white supremacist hate group is a big old laugh' and (2) 'ignorant of recent history, and don't go to the cinema/read film reviews/watch awards ceremonies', because 'BlacKKKlansman' is all over the place at the moment, and has been for months.

PyongyangKipperbang · 11/02/2019 16:50

My sons ex GF had a car reg that looked like "BLONDE" , she bought it with the plate, it didnt occur to her at the time. She was blonde and when she realised it really embarrassed her to think that people would assume she had bought it on purpose. So she sold the plate and made quite a bit of money!

So yes, it could just have come like that and they either didnt notice or cant afford/justify the cost of changing it.

LilQueenie · 11/02/2019 16:52

yabu. you don't know these people and have taken an instant dislike to them over a few letters.

sunshinesupermum · 11/02/2019 17:04

YABU to assume your new neighbours are racist based on their number plate. HTH

Helmetbymidnight · 11/02/2019 17:30

do people think they're clever to use the phrase 'curtain twitching' or telling the op to 'get a life'?

youre on a thread about someone elses neighbours on mn, Grin you're hardly bonnie and clyde yourself.

(nb bonnie andclyde were famous bank robbers- several films have been made about them. )

op you can move near me any day.

pineapplebryanbrown · 11/02/2019 18:14

I've thoroughly enjoyed this thread. It makes me feel so much better about all those fancy dress parties i went to in the 70s. My mother didn't love me enough to fashion beautiful things out of doilies for me. She just threw the same white sheet with eyeholes at me every time. Thigh the Racist Ghost 👻

Gth1234 · 11/02/2019 18:16

I thought KKK wasn't allowed, but there you go.

ineedaknittedhat · 11/02/2019 18:36

You'll have to wait and see if they erect a pole then hoist up Confederate flag in their front garden.

The kkk isn't really a thing in the UK.

QoFE · 11/02/2019 22:17

Yes it is allowed

Well this thread has been an education to me. I thought everyone knew about the KKK and I never knew I was a curtain twitching bigoted racist but there we go. Every day is a school day Smile

LizzieVereker · 11/02/2019 22:24

I genuinely knew a married couple who both had first names beginning with K and their surname also began with K. They were both teachers and worked at the same school. They had “KKK” number plates which understandably did not go down well at the diverse school we were working in (not that it should be considered acceptable at any school). They knew what the KKK was but “hadn’t really thought about it “ when getting their number plate. Hmm

Racecardriver · 11/02/2019 22:27

They have personalised number plates. The starting point is to assume they aren’t too bright. On that basis I would be inclined to think they just don’t realise. Even a raging racist would think twice about advertising kkk affiliations/sympathies.

GabriellaMontez · 11/02/2019 22:33

I think leaping to that conclusion says more about you as does your sneering at their 3 vehicles

And ive never heardof blackkklansman.

QoFE · 11/02/2019 22:39

I'm amazed you think I was sneering at them having 3 vehicles. It was what's knows as 'context' - the fact they have a luxury vehicle that isn't their everyday runaround and also has a personalised number plate gives some insight into why I don't think the number plate is just a happy accident. And yes, it does also say something about them. They presumably have enough money that if they were bothered about the plate they could change it. So, they're not bothered about it, which raises questions for me because I would be bothered by it. If I had no choice I'd drive a car with KKK in the number plate but no fucking way would I go out of my way to obtain one!

I accept IABU and that very few other people would be bothered. Fine. That was why I started the thread - I was genuinely not sure if I was being ridiculous or not.

Nursejackie1 · 11/02/2019 22:50

Not at all evidence that they are racist! My portuguese family use kkk as a laughing noise at the end of a message instead of hahaha....just saying it stands for many other things! If they do happen to be racist and want the world to know it so much that they bought a personalised numberplate with it on trust me there will be other signs!
